shaving

I am a swimmer and compete in a master's series. Three times a year i shave down (stomack, arms, legs etc) for meets. I ALWAYS end up with in grown hairs afterwards and i hate it.

Any ideas

Thanks

~ exfoliation.
~ don't shave too close...like don't pull the skin tight for the razor blades.
~ use something to reduce swelling afterwards...witch hazel or whatever. i've never tried it, but if your skin gets really aggravated, maybe some otc hydrocortisone cream would even help.

i used to compete. what's your stroke?

Wyndhy thanks for the response. I dont know what a witch hazel is but i will investigate. Never tried hydrocortisone cream but will give that a go.

I swim mostly the 500 free. Sorry i am not a good breast stroker (hehe).

Thanks

Actually, I've always thought the freestyle stroke was FANTASTIC and occasionally have even tried the butterfly. Oh, yeah, and the backstroke can be exhilarating. But now you're telling me we have to be in the WATER when we do them? And shaving will speed me up? I'm not really sure I want that.

Have you considered waxing? That's what all my guy friends did when I was on swim team.

Other than that -- SHARP razors, don't speed thru the process, and I like using Oil of Olay (bar) soap when shaving -- seems to help lubricate better.

If you want to wax.....I can be retained for this service. ;)

U just like hurtin people! :spank: :)

As well as what's been said here, you shaving regularly can also help with the bumps. Once your skin gets used to it, it's much easier. So I'd be shaving a week or so before the race, then three days before, and then the morning of the race. It's more work, but it might be less trouble. And always shave in the direction of the hair growth, at least until you're skin can handle the other way.

Or, do what I did, and just keep yourself shaved the whole time. I used to shave arms and chest one day, legs the next, and so on so I wasn't shaving the whole body every day.
Unfortunately doing that can reduce one of the key benefits of shaving down for a race - better feel of the water which comes from the increased sensitivity the skin has after shaving. Once you're used to being shaved, that sensitivity might not be as high.

And as with everything - experiment! Trial and error will find the best solution for you!

Good luck!
