Do you believe women have a biological clock?
 

Just curious as some co-workers of mine were talking about this. Some outright deny that a biological clock ticks in women to go find a guy before 30, while others say damn straight they have one.

Your thoughts?

I agree with Alasse, and will take it one step further. I've known some MEN who've appeared to have a much stronger biological clock than I do....if by biological clock you mean a need to settle down and have kids NOW NOW NOW.

I don't think it's some kind of hormonal switch that gets flipped, though. It's more just a sudden realization that we age, that we don't have infinate options forever, that having children is a priority to that particular person, and that they're afraid that if they wait they'll miss that chance.

Kinda curious though, you seem to have worded your poll just for guys....am I misreading that?

of course, this was aimed mainly at women, I think later I'll make a poll for the guys in another thread witha nother subtopic or something.

The poll seemed to be for men, actually.

I'm with Alasse. I'm 31 and once in a blue moon I think about kids but it's not a major part of my life. And then I'll see a screaming toddler having a tantrum in the supermarket and my clock won't tick for months! :)

I would also say being 30 has nothing to do with it. I think the need strikes when the need strikes, age is irrelevant.

My need/want/urge to have kids has only ever kicked in strongly twice, once when I was with my ex and now that I'm with FussyPucker.

However it's always been born out of wanting to create life with the man I'm in love with, rather than about finding a man so that I can have kids.

I've never been particularly pro marriage, and if I'd not found the man of my dreams, I wouldn't be fretting about not being married/having kids by the time I'm 30.

Actually, I've always assumed I have all the time in the world, and it came as something of a shock when I started seeing statistics relating to child birth and the over 35's. Made me stop procrastinating and move things along with FussyPucker!

I read the question as “biological”, not psychological.

Changes in the human biology seem to be well established and accepted. The way that we deal with any change is as individual as DNA.

You involuntarily experienced puberty and dealt with it in your own way, didn’t you?

Well that's kind of what I mean....puberty is a physical change, menopause is a physical change, there are definately physical changes going on in between....but the biological clock may just be a personal reaction to life.

Not 100% sure, but I haven't heard anything that tells me different.

I was taught to respect my elders. You lie down on the pillows & I'll take the hammer, old man.

I didn't even know there was a biological clock since I had my kids at age 19 and 21.....

I always got the ohhs and awwws at seeing a newborn but I never wanted another child and when I became a grandma at age 41 I transferred all my ohhs and ahhs to him.

I believe people are hit with feelings of wanting a baby at varying ages....no clock ticking just a sense of wanting to either have a child or not. It is more a decision making time imo.
