Dutch singles just aren't loving it
(submitted by gekkogecko)
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch singles aren't having satisfying love lives despite the country's reputation as a haven for free and easy sex, according to a new poll. Close to two-thirds of the men and women surveyed said their intimate relations compared poorly with married couples, and one third of the men and nearly half the women complained they had no sex lives at all. Overall the poll of more than 1,000 single Dutch men and women by the on-line journal MVlife (www.mvlife.nl) found less than a fifth of them were happy with their sex lives, despite the finding that many men and women had regular one-night stands. "(This) eradicates the stereotype of the loose, free and sex happy single that has been perpetuated," MVlife said in a commentary to the poll published on its website. But the survey found that at the other end of the scale, most of the singles with vigorous sex lives had thrown caution to the winds despite the risk of HIV (news - web sites)/AIDS (news - web sites). Just six percent of single women and four percent of men said they were in monogamous sexual relationships, and more than one third of women and almost half of men said they regularly had one night stands. |
