* Turn the Station *

The Laura Branigan thread got me thinking...

Is there a song/ some songs that cause you to reflexively turn the station immediately??? I know I have odd taste and often dislike things others like so I am curious if you guys flip off anything that I do.

I honestly CANNOT do rap music. It is very annoying to me.

osuche 08-29-2004 05:17 PM

Anything by Norah Jones....sorry to those who love her, but I find her whiney. :)

Lilith 08-29-2004 05:31 PM

I dig her but will change the station for any and every CCR song and I'm not fond of Africa by Toto

Steph 08-29-2004 05:36 PM

Anything by AC/DC

RAP isn't music!--and fortunatelly I have my radio tuned to ignore rap stations!

There are a lot of slow songs that I turn off or station switch--for me music needs bounce to keep the blood flowing

I'll trade you AckerDacker for sexy Eminem! As Irish says, different strokes for different folks. :D

The lead singer's voice kills me. "YEAH, shook me all night long" reminds me of head-banging, air guitar playing, acid-washed jean boys in high school :)

Sharni 08-29-2004 08:46 PM

Would be damn boring if we all liked the same thing...thats my take on it *L*

You Shook Me All Night Long is one of my favorites LMAO

I switch for Guns & NeuRoses...& if the station buttons quit funtioning when "The Joker" comes on, I'd rip the fuckin thing outa the dash...something about Steve Miller Bland just sets my teeth on edge...

Rap is definitely not sumpin I will ever listen to. I just don't get it. I must be old!!! Every time I'm within earshot of it, it just makes me cringe......wonder if that's what Mama used to think every time I cranked up Black Sabbath?

And anything by Shania Twain....... yeeeeeeesh, absolutely nauseating.

Belial 08-30-2004 04:30 AM

I just save myself the aggravation and don't listen to the radio unless there's a game on of some sort. However, for someone with a wide yet (apparently) very picky taste such as myself, Internet radio is great as there are stations specializing in most varieties of music you could imagine. Other than that, I just put on a CD or tape or mp3s or whatever.

But...just to keep things on topic...

If I were listening to the radio, I would change for the following songs/genres/artists:

Almost all R&B
Most rap
Pretty much all commercial dance
Pop-rock
nu-metal
Hoobastank - "The Reason"
Disco (although I suppose that fits in with commercial dance)
Just about all the Black Eyed Peas singles (Fergie is yum though :) )
The Chemical Brothers
Fatboy Slim
Emo
Anything any Australian Idol has released that I've heard so far
Most country that I've heard (though I'm willing to give the genre a chance if someone will show me "the good stuff")
Creed
Anything Nirvana will generally cause me to inflict violence on some inanimate object in close proximity
Any song that commands me to dance is going to suffer violent insubordination

I think that just about covers it.

I don't do "Country" very well at all...but there are a few songs/artists that I won't fall over myself to to get off the air. Can't think of a one at the moment though.

"Rap" has it's place in the music menu...but it's not on my diet. There are some exceptions to this rule as well...I really like Kid Rock (rap mode...not country mode), Culio, and a few others (who escape me at this time in the morning).

I know a lot of "oldies" (parenthesised because the oldies I speak of may be ancient to some peeps here...or not oldies at all to others) but I don't leave them on if it's not necessary. Stuff from the 50's get switched almost immediately if my in-laws aren't in the vicinity. Frankie Valli (as an example) had his time, but I don't listen to that kinda stuff much anymore.

And...sorry to say it but I don't like the new Van Halen stuff (and I'm more disappointed at that fact than you know!) and I switch it ASAP, whenever it comes on.

But, for the most part, I am pretty diversified in my musical taste and I'll listen/tolerate most anything just to have some tunage on in the situations it's called for (work, cleaning, parties, bars/clubs...etc.).

BigBear57 08-30-2004 05:29 AM

I have a 16 yr old copilot who commands the radio when we travel. I mainly keep a CD in when I'm allowed. Just imagining I had a choice though, Rap is about the only thing I'd have a knee jerk reaction to switch off.

Grumble 08-30-2004 06:14 AM

for me rap is crap, I just hate it.

not much into jazz either, I describe it as a band is playing a song and the singer is singing another.

and operatic stuff is not my cup of tea
