~*x Hurricane Party x*~
Looks like us Panhandlers will be hosting one tomorrow. Do you have any tips for what you do to prepare for natural emergencies in your area?
You coastal lovies....hold on tight! |
Uggg this is the whole reason I hate living in Florida.... just sit and wait.
Ya'll be careful! |
Had to cut short our vacation in PCB once because of inpending hurricane, my prep involved loading the car up in the rain & driving north like a bat outa hell...the same rain followed us all the way to Montgomery AL...
|
As far as natural emergencies in my own area, we have to stay on our toes for twisters, esp. since the F3 ripped thru downtown back in '98, proving that major cities donot protect one from tornadoes...it passed about a mile north of my workplace, I saw it as I was driving in...when I pulled in the parking lot, my co-workers were all standing outside to get a look...
Our prep involves dragging the family (inc. the dog) down to the basement & turning on tv or radio to monitor...if a twister does come, we would get under the porch crawl space (12" of concrete overhead should provide a safe haven) |
honestly dont know if tere are any natural disaster that occur here......... il have to ask lush or animal . but i visit louisana every year and am from j-ville arkansas. in louisana loads of candles bottle water hold on tight, luckly my mom in laws house was built WAY above flood line (loads of dirt hauled in for that one) and it doesnt flood unless a pipe explodeds in the attic.(hurricanes)..... j-ville hide the kids and animals in the closet next to the bathroom(tornados in an apartment)

Ugh two hurricanes in one week just ain't right!
I am going out tonight to get the bottled water, batteries and some canned food. It's predicted to hit Orlando at 10am Friday. Crossing fingers that it turns and goes in another directions. At least being in the middle of the state we don't normally get anthing that bad. But it has happened and can again. |
OMFG!!!!!!
Please oh please don't send the tail end up this way Lil! It's been pending all day here...and the weekend looks like a washout so far as the weather stations are concerned. Can I send my 125 guests a bit south? My party might be a washout too...and I have no rain date. OK...you make 500 homemade meatballs and five large pork roasts for pulled pork au jus and then NOT have the party! Arrggggggg! Where the fuck is she? I'm gonna kill the shit outta MOTHER NATURE!!!!!!!! Please be safe everyone! *sigh* I love you guys! |
Well for natural disasters, I guess we all pull up a chair, sit back, and watch. Myself nothing like the Thunder Gods tossing bolts back and forth accross the sky to get the blood going--personally I love to walk in storms. But I have plenty of candles and normally a wall stocked lardder anyway (alot of canned foods)
But seriously, I suggest filling ever tub and sink with water--have plenty of candles and get lots of canned foods and things that will keep. But also place blankets in a dry place that is securred, just incase you lose a roof. And lastly, leave at least one cell phone on the charger to let your loved ones know you are ok :) |
(((Lixy))) The weather guy up here predicts rain for us Friday-Sunday.... Can you start calling ppl now with a rain date and freeze the food?
To all our Florida pixies.... Please do what ever you need to do to stay safe!! And don't forget to check in when it's all over. Maybe use this thread just to say "Hi, I'm ok". If we don't hear from you we'll be worried. ok. :) :) |

I am one of those people who loves a good storm. The ex use to sit on the porch and watch me and his son out playing in the rain.
But as a child I remeber going into the underground storm celler with a radio and sitting it out. I was more scared of what was hiding in the dark coners than the storm, lol. Now days is the same unless the house is actually shaking to the point I think it might be coming apart I am somewhere where I can at least hear the rain. If it is bad I will go to the bathroom and wait it out. |
we get a fair amount of tornadoes every year but a lot of people just sit there and watch them :D (yes I am one of the dumb ones that watch... what can I say I like to watch  )
|
I must come out of my cave more often!!!
I don't know if I would rather be in "hurricaine alley" or "tornado alley"....with hurricaines you get a heads up far in advance, but the power and destruction of them.... hmmmm, tornadoes don't last very long, but can drop out of the sky without warning. Just be safe (((to all Pixies in the path of Charley))) |
One of the best things about living in England has got to be the fact that there are really no hurricanes or tornadoes (to speak of) no volcanoes, no Earthquakes, few poisonous snakes or spiders, no forest fires, very little flooding, very rarely dangerous amounts of snowfall.......basically not too much to worry about in the way of natural disasters.....in fact the only natural disaster we have is Tony B liar (oops, I mean Tony Blair).
Heard about you guys in Florida this morning on the news though, and I instantly thought of all my Pixie friends. Be safe all you lovely people. |
