How often have you moved?

It's the final countdown for me - friends are lined up to help, beer has been bought, keys have been added to my key chain (right now I remind myself of Schnieder from "One Day At A Time" or whatever that show was called) . . . a co-worker pointed out that this is my FOURTH move since Nov. 2002. One move was temporary, one was because of a slumlord and now this one is because of a break-up.

In my 30 years, I've moved a good 18 times and I still SUCK at it.

Have any of you moved as much? Any of you moved lately? Not lately?

Lemme know!

college alone has had me move 5 times. besides that... 6 other moves i think? add one more if my interview goes through. :)

I have moved about 10 times, but I am an organizational freak so it always goes well.

Didn't move much at all until about 10 years ago. Since then, I've moved 6 times. Hopefully, this last one was the last one.

I start out organizing like crazy but I know the last two days are going to be filled with power naps, cramming stuff in boxes, cleaning as I go & chaos.

Any tips?

Counting the military only as one, in my half century plus, I’ve moved six times.

LixyChick 01-29-2004 08:51 PM

In nearly 46 years.....I have only moved...*counting on fingers*....7 times.

I absolutely abhor moving.....despite the fact that I am very good at it. I go into a depression (of sorts) when I do. It's a depression that manifests into a cleaning mania. I clean where I am leaving till there is no sign that a life had existed there.....and then I clean at the new place to rid it of the life that left there. It really plays with my head to move. I don't know why, as I am not adverse to change. I rather like change actually.

I love to help friends move though...and I think they appreciate all the cleaning I get done for them. LOL!

Oh.....wait.....8 times total......but the very first time I was only 4y/o and so I don't think that counts.....eh?

Wait now, Lixy - read back on my thread of "Moving Day". As I recall, you were pretty much predicting you weren't going to help! :D

I've probably moved about 35 times in my life, but I also hate it! ... Not planning to move again until I buy a place of my own, and then not planning on moving after that.

There for awhile I was moving about every year, it sucked to. Can't believe how much junk I keep.

BlueSwede 01-29-2004 11:21 PM

I am literally in the process of moving. I sat down and tuned into Pixies for a quick 10-min. break before starting in again. My move is complicated, and it is occurring, with the help of 2 or 3 friends, over a 3-day period. Everybody has to work and is free to help just a few hours at a time. I am moving from a 3-floor townhouse into literally 1 tiny bedroom in a different city and state for 13 weeks before moving somewhere else again. (I'll be starting my first assignment as a travel nurse on Monday.) Most everything is having to go into storage. I have moved at least 20 times (9 times since '93). It is hell every time. It also doesn't help to move during the ice and snow season.

14 times or so. Keeps things fresh. No clutter!

dm383 01-30-2004 03:02 AM

Like PF, if you count the military as one "move", I've moved 14 times since age 19. 5 of those have been in the last 2 years!!

And yeah.......it sucks. :)

10 times in my life thus far. It's a good opportunity to get rid of the random stuff one accumulates...

Bilbo 01-30-2004 04:06 AM

18 Times in 30 years.....You would just about be at the stage where you would have to question wether it is worth unpacking!
