SEX DECLINES IN U.S.

By BILL HOFFMANN

September 24, 2003 -- We may think about sex all the time, but - gasp! - we're actually doing it less.
That's the less-than-lusty conclusion of a new sex poll that finds that Americans enjoy a steamy romp an average of just 118 times a year.

That's a whopping 20 fewer rolls in the hay than last year, when lovers across the United States said they had sex 138 times.

And it's well below this year's world average of 127 sex romps, according to the annual 2003 Global Sex Survey by the makers of Durex condoms.

But while that may be a somewhat disappointing number, it's not as embarrassing as the lackluster total of bed-notches some countries racked up.

Incredibly, the Swedes chalked up a below-average score of 102 times a year.

But the reddest faces may belong to France, which prides itself on having the most expert and most frequent lovers, and has been No. 1 in the polls for years.

The French registered only 144 performances a year and for the first time were squarely beaten by Hungary, which was named the world's most sexually active country with 152.

"Bedtime in Budapest is the most passionate of all," said a spokesman for Durex.

Does this figure represent just intercourse? After all, giving oral isn't sex anymore right? :D
