Actually, I thought this was very interesting. When I was in sales...(telemarketing - please, no sponge bricks at me.... it was a long time ago :D) I had to telephone all over the nation, and of course, we really didn't know who the puter was dialing....so, I would listen to the dialect of the person that I was speaking with to detect what part of the country they were from... and I was usually right!

It reminds me of a Linguistics course I did years ago. Our prof would go around the class asking each of us how we pronounced words. Newfoundland has so many dialects that there'd often be several different ways of pronouncing words.
