Take it slow and easy (stay as relaxed as poss). Don't expect too much, and MAKE SURE YOU GLOVE UP!

I am sure you have already, but make sure you are both 100% commited to the idea by discussing it. It may also be a good idea for your girlfriend to visit a gp for advice and perhaps additional contraception, doubling up is always a good idea.

I agree with Joel - definitely discuss it first. If you do decide to go through with it, make sure you're both protected. As for the actual act, YES, it will hurt her, but when she's in pain, don't get upset about it - I mean let's face it, there's a foreign object being inserted in to her - that's bound to hurt a little. But there are things you can do to make it more enjoyable - for one, make sure you're both relaxed and comfortable - if her vaginal muscles are tense, she'll get tighter and it'll hurt her more. Put it in slowly to get her used to it. DEFINITELY engage in a little foreplay first. And here's a trick that I used when I lost my virginity - I breathed in really deeply and exhaled very slowly - it totally relaxed me. Make sure her legs are spread pretty wide too - that helped me a lot. And also - go really slow. No, it won't be great your first time, but you two have plenty of time to learn together. Just take it slow, and lean over her and kiss her - I found that to be very comforting.
