Yuck(EUW)Yuck

Last night I was catering a huge meal...making quiche. Cracking eggs like a woman gone mad when all of a sudden I looked and out of the egg I was cracking came blood. Weirded me out!!!!!!

Needless to say I had to start all over but I felt very out of sorts about it. I feel like there was some kharma thing that occurred. Do you know any superstitions about this? A blood filled egg?

I felt immediately as if bad luck would come to me. But I have had the most glorious time since then. It almost feels the exact opposite as if things are falling into some cosmic order.

Has anyone ever heard of a superstition concerning eggs?

Any other funky superstitions you know about?

I can remember someone once saying something about tipping your forelock to a raven.....

BLOOD SPOTS
Also called meat spots. Occasionally found on an egg yolk. Contrary to popular opinion, these tiny spots do not indicate a fertilized egg. Rather, they are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface during formation of the egg or by a similar accident in the wall of the oviduct. Less than 1% of all eggs produced have blood spots.

Mass candling methods reveal most eggs with blood spots and those eggs are removed but, even with electronic spotters, it is impossible to catch all of them. As an egg ages, the yolk takes up water from the albumen to dilute the blood spot so, in actuality, a blood spot indicates that the egg is fresh. Both chemically and nutritionally, these eggs are fit to eat. The spot can be removed with the tip of a knife, if you wish.

Another site I visited quickly said, if you cook it, it looks absolutely normal.

All that scientific mumbo jumbo aside ;) I do recall something about blood in the yolk of an egg being a superstition with good, positive connotations, not bad ones.

That "tipping your forelock to a raven" I believe was supposed to be "Remember to tip a forlock to a raven".....kind of like tipping a waitress I think. :p

I'm not at all superstitious! I walk under ladders, I've accidently broken mirrors, black cats cross my path all the time......I don't care! No biggie!

OK....I do have one superstition. When I board a boat that I have never been on........I'll bare my breasts from the bow to ward off bad weather and welcome a fruitful day of fishing and diving!

It is an old superstition that women are bad luck on a boat unless they bare their breasts from the bow. Ergo, the reason old sailing ships have that carved, wooden, bare breasted chick up front....clamped to the bow!

*Actually.........I just like to bare my breasts as the boat glides along and the sea spray splashes me* TeeHee!

*yelling from between lixy's breasts* I am king of the world!!!!!

Hey Lixy

Wanna go for a boat ride? ;)

GingerV 06-20-2003 03:14 PM

I've never heard the "bare breasts from the bow" one, but I do like it.

In my family, you never give anything empty. Purses or vases or bowls or anything that can be filled and isn't is bad luck unless it's given full. Never really known where it comes from, Jewish or Polish maybe? But I kinda like it.

Ahh Lilith,Cracking an egg and finding blood can be unnerving but it happenes sometimes when you buy organic fertalized eggs.It is these natural occurances that superstitions were started.......I am having a delightful fantasy of you naked and sitting on my lap feeding me quiche with your fingers.YUMM!
