My Bologna Has A First Name It's.....
OSCAR!!!! Which are your picks????
|
Most of my choices have to do with Lost in Translation. I have been wanting to see the Triplets of Belleville.Hope it wins for best animation.
|
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, of course! :)
Can't hardly fathom that LOTR has no representation in the best actor catagory. :( |
Rene Zellweger as best supporting actress in "Cold Mountain".
If she doesn't get it, something is very, very wrong. The rest are toss-ups. Maybe Clint Eastwood for best director... |
I loved Lost in Translation so I am seriously crossing my fingers for Bill Murray.
|
Bill Bill Bill!!!!!
I have a feeling Sean Penn might win but my choice would be Bill Murray. |
Pirates of the Carribean, definitely Disney's Best Film Yet
|
Here is my predictions :
Blue = I think they should win Red = Who I think will win BOLD= when we agree LOL ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE Johnny Depp - PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL Ben Kingsley - HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG Jude Law - COLD MOUNTAIN I believe Sean Penn deserves it, but Mr. Penn has snubbed his nose a few two many times at the establishment that would be honoring him. I just can't imagine that they will ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE Benicio Del Toro - 21 GRAMS Djimon Hounsou - IN AMERICA Ken Watanabe - THE LAST SAMURAI I would like to see Tim Robbins recieve it, but I have heard great things and predictions for Alec Baldwin too. ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE Keisha Castle-Hughes - WHALE RIDER Samantha Morton - IN AMERICA Naomi Watts - 21 GRAMS I am pulling for Diane Keaton, a woman that not only made the movie a favorite, but outshined Jack.. and that isn't easy to do. That woman has class and talent :) ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE Shohreh Aghdashloo - HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG Patricia Clarkson - PIECES OF APRIL Marcia Gay Harden - MYSTIC RIVER Holly Hunter - THIRTEEN Renée Zellweger - COLD MOUNTAIN Recognizing her is way overdue. This will be her year ANIMATED FEATURE FILM THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE Altho there has been lots of positive hopes for The Triplets, I can't imagine that Nemo will be overlooked. Personally I liked Brother Bear more.. [B]DIRECTING CITY OF GOD THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD This is, in my opinion the toughest category. I personally would love to see Sophia Coppola get it for Lost in Translation.. but realistically this being her first attempt isn't likely to get the recognition she deserves. I would also like to see LOTR get it.. BUT.. I don't believe that the academy has shown any appreciation in the past for fantasy or epics... that being said I think it will be over looked. I do believe that Clint will get this one... not only because the movie was incredible.. but because he himself bankrolled it.. that equals honor amoung men for them. BEST PICTURE LOST IN TRANSLATION MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD SEABISCUIT Read my above reason for best director.. I think it follows thru to my reasons here too. Altho LOTR was grand and wonderful, I don't think that it will top the incredible acting and story of Mystic River. |
It took me about fifteen months to get through the whole Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. I read about 60% of the 7,000 pages and listened to the rest on tape.
Master and Commander was the first triple play that I have ever seen. I paid to see it three times in its first run. ROTK was the second triple for me. M&C will probably win either sound or costume. The competition is pretty good in the other nominated catagories. ROTK was a disappointment to me as an indivdual film. The last part of the movie dragged on way too long. I can't ever forgive Jackson for not giving the Hobbits their reward to go back and Scour the Shire. By not doing that, they are portrayed as cute little creatures. If they would have been able to finish the last part of the war that had found its way to their homes they would have been the truly epic race that Tolkien wrote about. TV |
Here ya go, Lilith... Looks like Bill Murray is a favorite... keep your fingers crossed.
******* OSCAR-hopeful LOST IN TRANSLATION led the way at yesterday's (28FEB04) INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS, winning four awards including Best Picture. SOFIA COPPOLA picked up Best Director and Best Screenplay, whilst lead star and fellow ACADEMY AWARD nominee BILL MURRAY won Best Actor. CHARLIZE THERON was named Best Actress for her performance in MONSTER, whilst DJIMON HOUNSOU and SHOHREH AGHDASHLOO won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for IN AMERICA and HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG respectively. |
Generally stuck with LOTR, POTC, and Finding Nemo.
|
I was really sad for Bill Murray, probably his only chance. I kept forgetting that I wanted to see Mystic River now I really want to.
|
I was just walking the dog and as I was walking up the stairs I thought, "Murray had Rushmore & Lost in Translation . . . maybe the next one he does will see him rewarded."
I loved Billy Crystal acknowledging Murray after the award. I think many people were rooting for him. |
Good point Lil and Steph. Bill Murray does deserve to be recognized. I hadn't seen the shows, so when I went through the list, they didn't jump out at me.
|
Steph, Murray was almost to tears. It was the truest, most honest, reaction I have ever seen.
