As some of you may know, today is National Acadians Day. (I am Acadian.) I figured I would take a minute of my day to share a bit of my culture with my family here at pixies. :)

Now, let's all rise for our national anthem:

Dei mater alma
Atque semper virgo,

Sumens illud Ave
Gabrielis ore,
Funda nos in pace,

(Just the first 2 verses are enough, I think :p )

A very Happy Acadians Day to you. I went to various sites to try and better understand Acadians Day and you may find it interesting that in the U.S., Acadians Day is celebrated in the State of Louisiana (not sure why it's held on a different date):

"Friday, November 24, 2000, is declared Acadian Day in the state of Louisiana. It shall be observed as a legal holiday and a day of rest."

I actually had no clue it was on a diifferent date in Louisiana.... I know that we celebrate it today here because today is the Assumption, and the Virgin Mary is the Acadians' patron saint. Thanks for the info dicksbro!

But knew that a long time ago that a group of French got booted out of Canada and they moved to Louisiana that's where Cajun French came from I have heard in my travels..

Unfortunately, I actually had to look up what an Acadian is. I'm not entirely sure, but if I remember what my Dad said correctly, my grandmother was from Nova Scotia which I know makes me part Canadian, but I'm not sure if my family history goes back that far in that region. So happy (although late) Acadian's day.
