Car repair in order

2 Attachment(s)
It have been lucky for many years that I have not been involved in any kind of auto accident. :car: My luck ran out the night before last on my way home from work. :(

While pulling away from a stop light I was suddenly struck hard on the passenger side of the car. :yikes: I was in the outside lane and was watching the cars behind me so to move over to the right before the next light a block away when, *BLAMM*…. The car shook and my head snapped right, to only see the flash of a white spot moving away. WTF?!?!?!?!

With the cars suddenly stopped, I pulled over and got out to see the damage wasn't really that bad. All the damage was confined to the front passenger door, not a scratch in front of or behind it. :) Mirror torn off, door dented and calling card stuck under the door handle, ….. and considering I was hit by a deer, it was really very little when knowing what damage CAN be done by such a collision.

While encounters between deer and cars is not uncommon, it is where this took place. The middle of a big city with nothing around for miles in all directions but more city is not the normal habitat for deer around here. E. 185 St with it's four gas stations adjacent the interstate freeway and all businesses down the street and nothing but houses on city lots is the setting.

I took pics from both sides of the freeway and marked my location when my hitchhiker tried to get in the night before.

So what unexpected encounters have you had with nature?

That's more hair than your car has seen in years! :D

I'm glad you weren't hurt, and that the damage was as minimal as it was. You were very lucky.

Many of you know that Mrs. WI has been driving a school bus for about 11 years now and her scariest interaction with wildlife took place three or so years ago when on a dark fall morning she had a wild turkey crash through her windshield. The turkey was killed on impact and the windshield obviously needed to be replaced.

As did the underwear of the driver.

WildIrish 10-27-2010 11:37 AM

I've been lucky.

The only animal I've ever run over was a female squirrel.

PantyFanatic 10-27-2010 12:07 PM

And you know it was female how..................? "rolleyes2

Wild Irish,
what a stange location to be hit by a deer. I live in southern NJ and work in Lakehurst in the middle of Pine Barrens. This time of year deer are slaming into cars on route 70 like linebackers on quarterbacks in an NFL football game. EIther that was a doe, a yearling or you got very lucky. Have several friends that have had thier cars totaled by a late hit out of bounds from a big buck. .

dicksbro 10-27-2010 02:28 PM

Sorry about the accident, PF, but I, too, am thankful you weren't hurt. I've hit a few animals over the years, but never had any damage done to our car. Thank heavens.

I'm the kind that slows down and avoids even hitting a squirrel darting across in front of me; or, a duck waddling along the street if it's at all possible.

Very glad you weren't hurt. Shouldn't be too much of a much to get that fixed.

Lilith 10-27-2010 03:32 PM

That is what you get, ya ole' cock blocker!

My deer hit was better. Jumped in front of me and I hit it with the driver side front corner of my car. My car is still driving (though I really think it fucked up my transmission). Personally, I'd just hit a junk yard and find a door. They aren't that hard to replace.

Pita 10-27-2010 05:39 PM

Deer are EVIL creatures that want nothing more than to plow into your car. I live in a town where there are almost more deer than people and have known so many people who have been assaulted by these animals. The only time I've ever had to use my anti-lock brakes was to keep from smashing into a deer.

PF, I'm very happy you are OK. :x:

Oldfart 10-27-2010 05:44 PM

I took out a kangaroo in my Mitsubishi van, a pheasant coucal the first distance drive in the RAV4, and a kite (about the size of a bald eagle) which took off my driverside mirror. I regularly hit dragon lizards which scoot out in front of me. I don't swerve.

I'm an eco-terrorist.

Living out in the country I've hit just about every thing but a horse! And I don't want to try that one!

Living in a city dosen't make you immune Independence, Mo.has an annual deer drive from downtown.

Fangtasia 10-27-2010 08:42 PM

OMG WI...ya made me snort my coffee man...still laughing!

PF ~ See if you had've been on the correct side of the road it woulda missed ya!! *L*

Now lets see.

Ford XC - I cleaned up a 2 roos, they did not get the chance to ever do it again. Taken out many rabbit/hares. Cleaned up a few birds *L*

Holden Commodore - Got a roo, and it too was not going anywhere. Many a bunny. A few birds. Damn nearly cleaned up the biggest deer i have ever seen in my life, way way too close!!

Nissan Tiida - Close calls with too many roos to count, some far far too close. a few beardies, a turtle and some birds. Thankfully havent hit any animal with it (thats done any car damage), and hopefully it stays that way.

Took out about 6 corellas from a flock on the motorbike, almost took out a cow on the bike. Few close calls with roos.

I'm afraid roos are part of my daily drive, my luck will prolly run out one day, hopefully one day many many many years away!!

My body man thinks the door can be popped/pounded out with no problem. The mirror is on order and hopefully will be here buy the end of the week, so the car was really no big deal. It was the startle of the moment that shook me the most. The location is still the most surprising part of the incident. It would be like hitting a roo at Brunswick and Ann St. in downtown Brisbane.

Lord Snow 10-27-2010 10:49 PM

Don't feel bad. When I hit the deer shook me a bit, but as soon as I realized I was just fine...I got pissed. Called my cousin to bring the truck and dammit all if I couldn't use the deer. I ruptured the bowels, making the meat no good. Got the car mostly fixed and I'm not really worried about what hasn't been. I never really liked the thing to begin with.

Hey!

gekkogecko 10-28-2010 10:40 AM

So, PF, did the police eventually cite the deer for the hit-and-run?

wyndhy 10-28-2010 10:42 AM

glad you're ok, pf.

We were eating dinner one night when we heard all kinds of sirens racing down the road. There had been an accident in which a car had struck...a wallaby.

In Connecticut.

When we saw it on the news, they interviewed the driver of the car who said "My daughter got out and looked at what we had hit and told me it was a kangaroo. I told her 'I can't call the police and tell them I ran over a kangaroo!!! They'll think I'm drunk!'"

Sadly, Willie was the pet of a man in the neighboring town. Apparently he was well known there because they used to go to town hall together. lol

Oldfart 10-28-2010 05:25 PM

A Connecticut wallaby in the local Court?

PantyFanatic 11-06-2010 07:12 PM

Yes, Bob.

Teddy Bear 12-04-2010 07:53 PM

PF, so glad you didn't get hurt!!

Hit a few squirrels, one racoon who waddled off into the woods, and one deer who did a full flip after impact and ran off. She too left alot of hair in my grill.
