Thanx DB My son catches things for me to take some shots of. He brings in this VERY irritated blue tongue who did NOT appreciate my photographing it at all! Soooo with it hissing, lunging, posturing and generally being a not so nice model :lol: Here's a few pics.    Showing me exactly what it thought of my pic taking :lol:  |

I should have known
Being that I keep late hours at the small plant I work with doing a lot of tinkering after the normal work shift, I often get to see the security guard that stops in throughout the shut-down times on a staggered schedule to see how much the burglars took this time and to key in his site recorder. One such fellow, a couple notches above your standard rent-a-cop, stops to chat a bit and peek at current rube goldberg mechanism to brake the monotony. He talks funny, but our short chats are an intelligent brake for both of us.
Knowing he's a southern boy and him knowing I have online friends from all over, I asked if he had Blue Tongues in his home. "Yeah! Had one as a pet once. It was hit on the road [probably by somebody driving on the wrong side :nod: ] but wasn't hurt too bad. Nursed it back to health in a while and turned out to be female. It had babies. :baby: I had it in a cage though and it ATE ALL IT'S BABIES." :yikes: KRIKIE! What a friendly place that is. :doorpeek: true :roflmao: |

....More.... Now this friesian stallion was to die for, my absolute favorite horse there! He was a true gentle man. Now i know how it feels to touch $250,000 worth of horseflesh lol. Money or not, he would be a dream to own and ride. Pics are not the best, there were just so many people flocking to him, and they defiantely do NOT do him full justice, but they give you an idea of him        |

Nika is back in training and EXTREMELY excited about it *LOL* She is training in a Halti because of my still not good ankle injury and Nika being a tad feral from no work, i've had to break out the Halti, so i dont get injured from her excitement and that she doesnt either, she was literally on 2 legs on the check chain when she seen another dog, her not being able to breath and then choking for the the whole walk is definately not a good thing, and definately NOT a habit i want her learning. I am desparate to get her back into work, and i really need to get back into walking, so the Halti was the next option, until she calms down (which i have no doubt she will) at least anyway. Saturday 8th May Lets just say the 1st 10min was her having a spack attack trying to get the thing stuck to her face off. Once she calmed from that, we went onto Halti and lead. A few spack attacks later *L* she soon realised that pulling and being a fool just made the 'nasty' thing get tighter on her nose, and coming to a heel made it go away. She is definately intelligent this one! Within 5 minutes she was heeling like a pro and fairly calm, with just the very odd try to get the halti off, unbelievable difference. Now as a test i unhooked the lead, and she still stayed with me, not always in a perfect heel, but a far cry from the nutcase i was trying to walk before. Lunchtime today she will get another mini lesson, and depending how she deals with that, i'll take her out for a walk, lead through check chain and through Halti, just incase she does manage to slip the Halti off. I am really excited and she will be too, i've been dying to get back out there. To be honest i forgot my mate sent me the Halti. I think it will be awesome for both Nika Sunday 9th May Today we went for a real walk, past all the dogs that never get out and are completely feral *L* Other than the intial i want the halti off try out...It was such a dream. While she whinged and wussed, control was just so easy, no choking, no twisting on the lead to get to them. My ankle was far happier, and i can guarantee it was FAR more pleasent for my Nika. So, we will go out again later this arvo. and all going well it will be twice a day from then on, oh except for Tuesdays because we will be back off to obedience school that night. I wrapped to be able to get back out there with the no damage to myself and more importantly no damage to my gorgeous girl!! Some pics of Nika is her Halti    |
Monday 10th & Tuesday 11 May No training...lead broke. Need to buy a new one and wont get to town til Wednesday. Wednesday 12th May I had to buy her a new lead today, dang they can be expensive, she broke the clip on the old one. I also bought a 20m horse lunge lead to use, she needs some work on recalls and distance work. We went for a walk this morning, only 2 tries at getting the Halti off and much calmer going past the 'crazy' dog up the street. So going quite well so far. Went for our arvo walk tonight when i got home from work. She was a bit stirred up because it was getting dark, but still not too bad. Ohh and i found her check chain *L* (in the pics she is wearing Scoobs old one and it is WAY too big) Thursday 13th May We didnt do our normal walk tonight, but went out and did some serious heel, sit & drop training. She did it no probs, picked it back up quite quickly. Many many changes of direction in the heeling, to keep her guessing and learning to watch and stick by my leg, i as very pleased to note she did quite well considering she's not done much for so long. Sits & Drops, we did the 1 step sit, 1 step sit She loves this....NOT *LOL* But she also picked this up again quickly. Mixed in with drops, and ups (from drop back up into sitting position) All in all a very successful training session, i'm very proud of my girl! |
Been a while...Nika and i are still training, with the days getting shorter i'm generally only getting in 1 session per day. As the days get longer we will, all going well, get back into 2 session per day. Now Took some quick pics of my gorgeous girl while training out on the long lead          |

This is a project that i've had on the go for ages, and it could take ages yet *LOL* I'm in no hurry and only pick it up when i've got a fair bit of spare time. The tank is a 3ft and will hopefully end up a frog tank, only filled around the halfway mark (tank cant ever be fully filled due to bowing, broken brace). Anyway, heres a few photos of its progression 26th Jan 2010  21st Aug 2010  22nd Aug 2010  Yes the foam is siliconed into the tank, and i'll be sealing and colouring it whilst its in there, yep i understand it is easier to do when its out of the tank, but there is method to my madness *L* |

My angels have spawned. I am now a spawn thief, i stole half to try to raise myself. Updates as i go, hopefully it will result in young angels!
My BN colony is growing again, i now have 1x male common longfin 1x female common longfin 2x female common shortfin <-----hoping to get a male for them this weekend 1x male albino shortfin 1x female albino shortfin 1x female albino longfin <-----looking for a male for her 1x marble, too small to sex <-----more to come 1x male peppermint 4x unknown peppermint (looks like it might be 3 females and 1 male, will still be 12 months before i can sex them i think) And quite a few common LF & SF fry (male LF and female SF pairing result) |

Now....sadly i lost all the angel fry :( Prolly a bit of a good thing too in that i have a new stand with 3 more tanks coming (i didnt really want the tanks but it was an all or nothing deal!) 1 of the new tanks coming is cactus and will be scrapped. So i am looking at moving the angel tank onto the 3 tiered stand, moving with fry would not be good, now i can move them and try again next spawn I deally i wanted to put the stand where the 4ft is currently sitting, but lo and behold i now have brand new albino bn fry and they definately wont take a move well. So now i'll either put it where the 3ft Angel is currently or store it and wait 3 weeks or so til i can move the 4ft...decisions decisions! |
Due to a massive hike in power costs here (bastards!) i'll be insulating all my tanks 3 sides with foam to limit heat loss. I'll also only be running some tanks during summer when the heaters only have to cut in on occassion. Also will be running many of the breeding anks off 1 air pump for filtration.
In winter i'll shut many of them back down like i did this winter. Ohhhhhhh i also have a new little planted octagonal tank (30litres) its housing 2 apple snails, Gary & Tas, also some malaysian trumpet snails and pond snails that hitchiked in. |
