Puter probs

Just to let you guys know, i'm having puter problems.....

Damn thing keeps freezing &/or restarting, and refuses to wake up out of hibernation (gotta turn off at switch)

I'm about ready to piff the damn thing! It would already be gone, but i cant afford to buy a newie at this stage!

Shit shit shit

Anyway, i'll be be off and on until we can either fix it or replace it.

themi01 05-24-2009 01:34 PM

Orli I am somewhat of a computer tech can you get to a friends computer and describe the problem more fully PM if necessary

Lord Snow 05-24-2009 08:39 PM

If you end up replacing it and want something that works and is a bit more powerful than what you generally get at a store, go here . It's where I bought my laptop and I'm happy as can be with it. Plus it doesn't have all the added crap that new computers come with. Like the internet specials and what not.

PantyFanatic 05-24-2009 09:23 PM

She's probably just trying to load all the software into the wrong side of the computer.

Harsh PF.

Mark Vieth 05-25-2009 05:55 AM

I agree oldfart very harsh pf. She isn't that backwards PF I suppose it depends on the position she finds herself in though........ROFL.

Anyway enough of that for now, there is a program that you can use that may help. Well it helped me. By the sounds of it, you may have a virus Sharn that your current antivirus can't find. I had the same issue with mine and now I have one of the better antivirus programs running. You may already have it if not its called AVG free antivirus. You should be able to run a search for it as it is free. If not here is a link that should help.

http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe

Hope that helps.

Just make sure you click on the left one where it says download now. The other is the premium version that of course includes other additional software.

themi01 ~ I can use my puter, its just a pain *L* It is having intermittent problems.

1. Has gotten very noisy (sounds like hard drive or fan??)
2. Shuts down at times, with absolutely no warning, no error messages, nothing!
3. Freezes at times, with no warning (eg: slow down), no error messages, nothing!
4. Sound disappears, and comes back eventually, again no warning etc
5. Goes into power saver (hibernation) and refuses to come out of it! Puter needs to be turned off at switch and restarted.

Now we replaced the DVD drive, seems to have stopped the freezing and shutting down problem.

Still will NOT come out of hibernation, so i have to shut down after each time i use it

Not a virus i'm sure, i run upto date virus protection and have scanned and scanned.

I think its either a stuffed hard drive, or there is a software conflict going on!

PF~ its YOU who uses the wrong side!! *pokes tongue*

Oldfart 05-25-2009 08:28 PM

It sounds like a power-supply problem I had in an 8088 back in 42BC.

Lord Snow 05-25-2009 10:35 PM

I don't see how replacing the dvd drive would solve the shutting down problem. It could be overheating because the fan is going out, that would explain the freezing and slow downs. No clue about the hibernation thing. As for the sound card, that could just have a bad connection or be on the way out. I've had a similar problem in the past.

themi01 05-26-2009 05:33 AM

I agree with OF sounds like the power supply on its way out

gekkogecko 05-26-2009 11:06 AM

Oh, sorry, was I not supposed to be munching your hard drive, Orli?

Wow...sounds like my HP dv9408nr......it did all of the above.
I called HP for support because my model had known issues and the warranties were extended.
So, after calling HP 6 times and getting run through the ineffective flow charts that the Indian Support Reps use...I was finally granted permission to mail my Laptop back to HP.

They replaced my system board, keyboard,Broadcom Card and my DVD player free of charge. Perhaps there are known issues with your puter????
Well good luck....and if ya need any help.....call me...I've become quite fluent in Indian :)

Lord Snow 05-26-2009 07:12 PM

Tech Support

Nuff said.

jbh3 05-26-2009 07:25 PM

Awesome!!!...thanks!

themi01 05-26-2009 08:09 PM

ok back to the beginning laptop or desktop ? and what flavor IE Dell. HP etc...... I would also Google your specific computer and complaints you might get a simple answer there too

Fangtasia 05-26-2009 08:18 PM

Lord Snow: The DVD drive has been crook for a while, noisy but working *L* Since replacing it still have had no freezing or shutting down at all. And i dont need know how it worked, just that it seems to have solved those problems and i'm thankful.

I dont think its overheating either, used to would freeze a minute or so after being turned on upto an hour or so (never slowed down *sorry missed the no in original post there* just froze or restarted). And now i can run it as long as i like, providing i do not let it go into hibernation OR go onto screensaver.

Sound card isnt a connection problem, checked all that.

The damn thing is still very noisy though...grrrrrrrr. It is old though (6-7yrs), and has never been turned off since i got it, runs 24/7 (well except for power outs *L*) So i spose its entitled to get the sads eventually, things arent built to last forever.

Bilbo has the same puter, and it is not having any issues at all, i think mine is just overworked and tired to be honest. I'll just keep it going as long as possible, run it into the ground so to speak, and replace it when i can.

So if i disappear for a real length of time, chances are its given up the ghost *LOL*

Scarecrow 05-26-2009 10:53 PM

I think it is all the pics of Orli that is the problem

PantyFanatic 05-26-2009 11:19 PM

I'm sorry to hear you are having computer problems again. I recall when you last had a demon get into your machine and all the script was displayed as yellow text. I guess that is the final sign that it is dead and you have to replace it right then. Good luck with getting the most out of what is left before you have to run out and get a new one.

Lilith 05-27-2009 07:09 AM

My system was all fucked and stuffed up yesterday. I git terrified I would not be able to get online. DTs started, I was shakin' and slobberin'. It was a sight!

Lord Snow 05-27-2009 09:13 AM

I know what you mean. It's possible to live without the internet, but who would want to?

Fangtasia 05-29-2009 04:07 AM

I'm still here *L*

Stupid thing, no longer as noisy, still not completely normal running sounds though.

Its just the hibernation/screensaver thing that is the big issue.

I've got an easy solution. :boink:

Just stay awake and keep posting so that the screensaver never kicks in and the machine can't go into hibernation. :D

Booger 05-29-2009 02:00 PM

lol The easier way to fix that problem is just turn the screensaver and hibernation mood off.

themi01 05-29-2009 02:37 PM

What os ?

PantyFanatic 05-29-2009 02:56 PM

I think she's past the point of salvage. It does sound like she has all the signs she knows means that it is time for a new puter.

Don't get into that.

She's been wanting to go O/S to attend a PAGAN since 2006.

Fangtasia 05-30-2009 07:16 PM

Thanks for trying to help guys.

But i think we got it!!

I'm in the middle of reloading update after update. We ended up taking it back to factory settings. While reinstalling the mouse froze, but not the computer. Changed the mouse over for another (one changed was exactly 3 weeks old grrrrr) have not had a freeze, slow up, etc since. Puter now comes out of screensaver and hibernation...wooohoooooo.

Still slightly noisy, but so far, its working! Fingers crossed.

jbh3 05-30-2009 07:28 PM

Far Out !!

PantyFanatic 05-30-2009 10:28 PM

Are you SURE it's OK?

Fangtasia 05-30-2009 10:33 PM

Yep appears to be hun.

6yrs worth of updating sux i can tell ya though!!

Oldfart 05-30-2009 11:21 PM

How do you update sux? Call it siven?

Fangtasia 06-05-2009 10:17 PM

Well, i can safely say that it was the mouse that caused all the problems. Since i've changed to another i have had no issues at all...woohoooooooo.

jbh3 06-05-2009 10:21 PM

It's always the stupidest thing....and usually right in front of you huh???

Good to see you Orligirl !!! :)

Fangtasia 06-05-2009 10:24 PM

Yep true, and i figure it out DURING a full reinstall *L* wished i'd thought of it BEFORE!

But anyway as long as its working and all good thats all that matters, but darned if i'm over reistalling programs and updates *LOL*

Thanx jbh3, good to be back *hugz*

Oldfart 06-06-2009 07:35 PM

That stupid thing right in front of you can cause allllll sorts of mischief.

smithy020 06-06-2009 07:38 PM

I always read this as Putter probs, expecting it to be a golf thread! lol

MommyMaggie 06-06-2009 08:11 PM

that is highly unfortunate but happens to me all the time. I am always doing airhead stuff like trying the wrong key in the door, etc. Sometimes we miss the forest for the forest ;)

Very true!!!......Mouse drivers have brought many a business to their knees :)

Fangtasia 06-07-2009 05:00 AM

Well i wouldnt call myself an airhead because i missed it. I had no reason to suspect the mouse being as it was around 3 weeks old and had no mouse issues before. The puter completely froze all the other times except for the during the reinstall.

Not sure how i could have picked it up before, if it had of shown the same thing that made me realise it was the mouse earlier, i would have worked it out sooner is what i'm saying.

Puters are sent to try us

Now if only i can get my photo program to friggin load *L* Damn companies that release programs with bugs give me the irrates!
