Inauguration

Today was beautiful. I loved his honesty, his candor. It will be good to have small children in the White House. I realized that my students will remember that they were in my class with me, making them watch, making them pay attention, making them understand when this historical moment took place. They laughed at me when I cried.

The commencement of another journey, hopefully a happier one for the USA. It has ramifications for us out in the rest of the world.

IowaMan 01-20-2009 06:30 PM

It was a very great day!

It's my understanding that he wrote his own speech. Does anybody know if that's the truth? It was a very good speech and the delivery was exceptional.

And Lil, I didn't have a class full of kids here with me but I caught myself with a tear rolling down my cheek a time or two as well.

Good Luck President Obama!

Lilith 01-20-2009 06:47 PM

I thought the cello, violin, and clarinet piece was breathtaking. And Aretha was well, Aretha.

Aqua 01-20-2009 06:56 PM

I listened to as much of his speech as I could on the way in to work and I will watch all of it later when I get home.

It is a great day for the USA.

I thought the invocation waqs inspiring despite the minister being controversial. There was substance, meaning and feeling in it rather than the usual religious rhetoric by one of the mainstay names usually chosen.

IowaMan 01-20-2009 08:52 PM

A couple of my crew had thoughts about today.

Feel free to vote them a few cheezburgers if you wish. lol

I just watched the First Couple get their groove on to Stevie Wonder et al singing Signed, Sealed, Delivered. How appropriate.

I hope the mods don't ban me for this or at the very least let it run for a few days before deleting. I appreciate talent & intellect. When it appears simultaneously it's often magical. Even though my ballot was cast another way and none can compare to the great Etta James, I know that the skillful directing of our country in the oval office will prove historically significant as well as the talented presentation of "At Last" will be remembered as a wonderful night for all. Ladies & Gentlemen may I present to you in their first dance as "The First Couple," President & Mrs Obama, dancing to the singing of Beyonce`.

I can only hope not to be ostracized by supporting our president Now here it comes hoping the democratic Ok I take that back and hope his policies are more centrist than left

Oldfart 01-23-2009 03:39 PM

Ostracised? But of course.

Stand in the corner and take off your clothes, right next to me.

Bad girl. Hmmm, a bad girl.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Lilith 01-23-2009 09:17 PM

Ostracize??? Is that like Jazzercize but where you put your head in the ground and leave your ass exposed?

Of course themi01, you should support whomever you feel deserves that honor. You/all are welcome to express your views but in return it is expected that you/all respect the views of others who have just as much right to express their views as you do.

Winston77 01-23-2009 09:45 PM

His speech was written by a 27 year old somebody, and the yoyo ma and others music was prerecorded ala lip sinc. Let's hope he can do the right thing but of course it's politics!

Lilith 01-23-2009 09:55 PM

I should hope so! Outdoors in January... I'd have been very disappointed to hear wind and crowd instead of those very talented musicians.

As for speech writing, that is a very talented speech writer who must feel very proud to be chosen by a president who is well known for being a great orator.

You seem doubtful of this administration/maybe government in general and who could blame you with all the garbage we have dealt with over the last 8 years. Definitely puts a nasty taste in your mouth.

I heard that Aretha was not thrilled with her performance. All I know is that was one hell of a 'go-to meeting' hat:D

themi01 01-23-2009 09:59 PM

OF an Lil would love standing neekid in a corner with um urr one of you lol

PS OF I'm a guy..... But wheeeee anyway lol

Lilith 01-23-2009 10:08 PM

/me pictures themi01 standing naked in the corner with his head in the sand and his bum exposed to the elements aka my hand, whip, flogger :D

D

When asked to "Say it ain't So, Yo!" Yo Yo Ma readily admitted the music was pre-recorded...he said that in 20 degree weather, tuning problems & mechanical difficulties with the piano would have made it sound like a bad American Idol audition...as a player of stringed instruments myself, I can vouch for the way temp extremes really can fuck up a performance, & while listening to it "live" my first thought was the clarinetist would end up with shredded lips if that reed iced up.

Didn't see the hat, but I did catch the tail end of her singing...her self-critique was not wrong, I have to say I've heard much better from the Queen...if it was me, I'd blame that on the weather too...
