but the presents are for OldFart.

For his birthday he went to see a local plane show and I know Oldfart digs planes so here are some pics.

:hb: Happy Birthday TaXXXman!

Great pictures. Looks like you had a good time and I'm sure OF would have if he could have been there.

Hey, this makes up for all the rain that bascially kept me away from the weekend air show here. Yeah, OF isn't the only one into vintage aircraft.
BTW, the third Saturday in May is Armed Forces' Day in the US. Hence, the prevalence of airshows around then.

Oldfart 05-18-2008 04:02 PM

It looked like a fun day, I'd have enjoyed very much spending it with TaXXXman.

The Mustang and B-25 looked great, but I was a little worried about the team of Wehrmacht soldiers with the MG34.

I loved the collection of Brit weaponry, I always wanted a Sten gun like that, I used a Bren and .303 while I was a young kid in Cadets.

It does look like they're ready for some surface-to-air practice...wonder if any pilots refused to go up in the air until the Jerries packed the weapon up, looks like live ammo hanging down there...

Cool!

Nah, it's just bits of lead and brass.

How can that possibly hurt an airplane?

You are sooooooo cynical.

1nutworld 05-20-2008 08:29 AM

One of the things that I never considered before seeing those pics, was just how small, comparitivly speaking, the B-25 bomber was. In my mind, when I hear the word bomber, I just automatically think of very large plane.

It didn't seem to be the case when seeing the B-25. Now that I think of it I have never seen one at any of the air shows that I have been to, and be able to compare. I know that the B-17 was much bigger, having seen one of those in person.

Those are great pics, thanks for sharing Lil.

Happy B-day taXXXman!

Oldfart 05-20-2008 08:39 AM

Hi nut, the B-25 was a versatile light bomber that was even loaded down with a dozen .50 cals and turned into a heavy fighter.

Martin Caiden (author of Cyborg, the novel basis for The Six Million Dollar Man), wrote a novel called "Whip", loosely based on the B-25 gunships and the Marianas Turkeyshoot.

Yeah, that's how Doolittle & Company were able to fly 16 of them off a carrier.

I've heard about that mission and seen the video footage of them flying off, but still it just never "sunk in" just how small the B-25's were. One of those mind overcoming reality things...I guess. I KNEW it was the case, but just chose to ignore the facts???

Hey OF how are you my friend?

BamaKyttn 05-22-2008 09:35 AM

LOOK it's NUTWORLD...... lol >hugs to OF and Nutworld<

Great. I'm really looking forward to the Pixies get-together in Nashville. It's only nine weeks and a couple of days away.

Hoping to see a lot of faces from PAGAN06 and a heap of new ones.
