Tons of bandwidth

sitting here doing nothing!

As many of you know, I manage commercial real estate and am currently running a renovated mill site in CT. About ten years ago, the complex was refurbished and brought from the 1850's to the future, literally. We have a space outfitted for a data center with supplemental cooling, waterless fire supression, 900 amp service with triple redundancy and 34...yes 34 fibre lines. That's access to 3,720 megabits per second for those of you counting. That's more than enough to handle more than 100 million routine emails! Per minute! :yikes:

The buildings are also connected to the SONET loop; a loop of 512 fiber lines running between Hartford, Boston & Albany. Data is capable of bidirectional travel, enabling uninteruptable flow of information.

The problem is not that I have it...it's that I don't know who to market it to. Who would use this?

Any ideas?

ISPs, online gaming companies, Google.

How high are the silos and how deep is the basement?
There could be a possible customer in Langley Virginia that may want to open a quiet office.

Banks and other Big Finance.
Web hosting companies
Large ISPs (don't just think of end-user oriented ones either) who lack a Point of Prescence in that area

How about I move my shop there? At least the scenery would be nice.

See if your local Multiple Listing Service needs a new office

or

Offer the space as an incubator for local tech companies - is there a university close by that might be interested in sponsoring the incubator?

It would make a lot of Fantasia Lamps.

There's a lot of great ideas here.

I've reached out to the two state universities as well as GSA (the agency that oversees federal leased space).

The two hospitals in town got packages as well, touting the benefits of IT redundancy & offsite record storage.

A major player in the field of data center setup & operations got a package, as did a few banks & an answering service center.

I wouldn't know where to go to reach any ISP's, but I'll investigate that next.

As for The Farm...never heard of them.

And I could imagine the uproar from the town should I lease space to a porn studio! On the floor above a state agency dealing with children. lmfao

I've considered reaching out to the insurance industry as well, but they're so damn set on being in Hartford that it's tough to convince them to stray east of the river.

The whole complex was originally redeveloped as a tech center with incubator space, but that didn't exactly take off. While it didn't work out for the previous owners, what it did do was position the complex very nicely to provide what is now standard business technology. All we need now are the companies to use it. ha ha

And maddy...don't you like looking at Colt? The worst part about our building's river view (with waterfalls) is that my office is in front of the building. :p

if we weren't taking up more space by the minute and insistent on being "in the city", I'd certainly make suggestions. I'd happily move from my lovely view of the river and tall building across the street to a much more quiet location. But I do know a company looking to move their data center *wink*
