My Superman

lizzardbits 06-14-2006 10:36 AM

Yes! and because he is my Superman as well, I will NOT be watching the new upstart imposter. I think that the new one is a disservice to the courage and memory to Chris Reeves.

Lilith 06-14-2006 10:38 AM

Me too. He's the first superhero who was my hero. Besides Aquaman :D

lizzardbits 06-14-2006 10:54 AM

when I was a kid, I was going to marry both Superman and Bo Duke....I had plans for those men, heh heh heh

Aqua 06-14-2006 11:52 AM

I hear ya Lilith.

But damn... Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. Nothing against Gene Hackman... I just love Mr. Spacey.

Fangtasia 06-14-2006 01:35 PM

I absolutely adored Christopher Reeve.....tho

I will see the new one to see what its like....and it better be good dammit *LOL*

Pita 06-14-2006 02:33 PM

LOVE the pics! Christopher Reeves was wonderful as Superman and I have very fond memories of seeing the movies. I will see the new one however, because I'm curious about how the new guy will be and look. Also, I think the effects in the new one look incredible.

Oldfart 06-14-2006 05:07 PM

Mr Alwyn and Mr Reeve may argue a little bit.

The actor is not the character, and I revel in any competent portrayal.

lizzardbits 06-14-2006 05:23 PM

I hope that it doesn't end up like the myriad of Batmans. I grew up on Adam West re-runs, but was accepting of Michael Keaton as the Movie Batman....then it went on to worse and worse portrayals with the epitome of bad as George Cloony in "Batman & Robin"

eh, I still wont be going, nor renting the new stuff.

Aqua 06-14-2006 05:46 PM

I like that it's not a 'remake' or a 'revision' or a 're-anything'. It's a new Superman movie and while I really dislike replacing actors, it's simply not possible to use the same actors we remember. And as OF eluded to... Christopher Reeves was not the first Man of Steel. But he will always, to me, be Superman.

Oldfart 06-14-2006 06:01 PM

And George Reeve won't?

While my first thought of Christopher is "Superman", in almost the same mental breath I think of "Richard Collier", his part in "Somewhere in Time".

Aqua 06-14-2006 06:31 PM

The only other movie I recall seeing C. Reeves in was "Noises Off"... and that was awhile after he was cemented into my brain as Superman.

I never had the opportunity to see G. Reeves as the Man of Steel, so there's no connection for me.

Oldfart 06-14-2006 06:59 PM

Gearge was the man, but the two girls who played Lois Lane were a young boy's

wet dream, sexy, intelligent, self-sufficient, yet unable to pick the difference a pair

of glasses and blue longjohns make.

Fangtasia 06-14-2006 07:00 PM

I enjoyed C.Reeves in Rear Window and more recently in Smallville

imaginewithme 06-14-2006 09:04 PM

Yep he IS Superman!

scotzoidman 06-15-2006 12:05 AM

Watched a program on A&E last night, something like "Look up in the Sky"...while it was as much as anything a promo for the new movie, it was also an interesting look at the complete history of the character...in the end, Supe has endured for nearly 7 decades because he has been adapted to the times he lived in, while retaining the core identity & character that we all wish we could be...
Chris put himself more completely into the role than anyone who had gone before, while balancing the nerdy Clark that we all feel we really are...but in the end, he was just a man, & not one of steel as we had hoped...
One fact I had forgotten that the show reminded me of, was that the first actor to portray Superman (in voice only) was none other than Bud Collyer, later of "Beat the Clock" & "To Tell the Truth" fame... :rolleyes2

Lilith 06-15-2006 03:00 PM

I am excited about Spacey as Lex Luthor too!

seminalfluid 06-15-2006 09:18 PM

No one can beat off Ace and Gary!

Aqua 06-16-2006 12:37 PM

Although rumor has it they might beat off each other... :o :p

scotzoidman 06-17-2006 11:38 AM

"What are you looking at?!?"

"NOTHING!!!"

Oldfart 06-22-2006 01:16 AM

Just by coincidence, I bought yesterday the first series of the original TV series.

dicksbro 06-22-2006 03:32 AM

My youngest son was an avid Superman fan and collected everything he could find on him ...

... so when I found the 1100+ episodes of old time Superman radio broadcasts on CD (MP3 format), I found the perfect gift for him. :)

scotzoidman 06-25-2006 06:17 PM

Just thought I'd mention I got to see the new Superman Imax film yesterday...

didn't care for it much, it was heavy...

Oh, BTW...I didn't actually get to watch it, I just picked it up at air cargo, & transported it to the Imax theatre at Opry Mills...

I had no idea Imax film was so big, it was 15 large boxes about 70 lbs. each, weighing in at over 1000 lbs total...back of my minivan was down so low, it felt like the front wheels weren't even touching the ground...I stayed off the freeway because the handling was so bad...

Oldfart 06-25-2006 09:48 PM

We all feel that our arses are dragging on occasion.

scotzoidman 06-25-2006 09:54 PM

In this case it was literal as well as figurative...

Oldfart 06-25-2006 09:59 PM

Yep.

Lilith 09-30-2006 05:42 PM

I was wrong. I just came from seeing the movie (Spacey was great) and really enjoyed it. I felt the actor played Reeve as Superman. He looked like him so much at times and you could tell he practiced sounding like him. At the end I got choked up cause I remembered my Superman is gone. However this new one did a great job at making me forget for a little while.

scotzoidman 10-02-2006 11:05 AM

I thought the new film had already passed out of the theaters on to the home video market, but I'm glad to see you really did like it...I guess the producers were hoping that people would understand that heroes like Superman have to evolve as time goes by, but maybe this version was just a little soon after losing the last one for many people...

Hold it up to the light?!? It was all I could do to lift it over the tailgate :whack:

Oldfart 10-03-2006 03:10 AM

Don't you have a light on the tailgate?

dicksbro 10-03-2006 04:27 AM

Don't you just hate tails with gates? You know, like when you're feeling especially horny and .... oops, wrong thread.

Oldfart 10-03-2006 05:29 AM

Left handed?
