Quel autre langue pouvez vous parler?

My French is very rusty (as you can probably see!) but a rant I had on another thread made me wonder how many other languages are spoken by the people of Pixies around the world.

Please, in this thread, speak your own language or your second/third language to me....let's celebrate our cultural diversity.....I'd love to see how many different languages we can gather here.

D'accord? Bien. On va commencer?

Ma première langue est le français (plusse spécifiquemaon in dialecte acadjonne <-oh yeah try and figure that one out ;)) pero puedo hablar un poco de espanol. (But that last bit might be completely wrong because I haven't practised in forever!)

Yay Acadian sexy woman! :) How do the Montrealers react to your accent? Do they say anything?

I proofread/edit French now but I'm much slower than my university days. There's not much French spoken in Toronto.

Neige 02-13-2006 07:22 PM

Steph, they all think I am an anglophone because I need to force myself to speak standard French, otherwise they really really don't understand a word I say... As soon as I say a word they switch to English. It pisses me off, so I tell them I am francophone and ask why they speak to me in English (I mean, come on, I speak French a lot better than most speak English). Usually they will turn back to French but some refuse - it's like, hello!!!! That's pretty much the only complaint I have about Montréal though :D

Steph 02-13-2006 07:32 PM

LOL I wondered! Being an East Coaster, I'm well aware of the looks the Quebecois give someone with a bit of an accent in their French. They'd switch to English with me, too.

Sorry for the 'bonjour, Jacques' but it's fitting here! :D

Neige 02-13-2006 07:37 PM

Yeah, luckily I am doing studies in anthropology so most people in my department are only curious to know where I come from and why the hell do I talk like that??? So it's not as bad as if I were studying, say, French or something. :D

sodaklostsoul 02-13-2006 11:06 PM

I have no idea what you said, but I loved that you said it!

I wish I could remember more Welsh but unfortunately, I've forgotten it since my university days....and I certainly can't remember how to spell it!

Pa. Dutch is derived from German...but I don't speak either very well at all! Schwenkfelder is a slang high German...but again, I suck at that too!

BIBI 02-14-2006 07:38 AM
