Guess everybody's growing up. What shows did you watch/listen to when you were a kid?

Yes’m. The color series are the oldest memories I have from my “cartoon days”.

Very cool. I am not familiar with that show but certainly know of some of their other works.

I was an Electric Company kid.

We lived way out in the sticks of northern Vermont and only got 2 tv. stations!!

But I remember 'Romper Room', Miss Cathy I think her name was would look through her special mirror thingy and "see" all the good little do-bee's out in tv. land. And she'd name them... I see Susie and Billy and Mary and Tommy and ........ Well it made me so angry that she never saw me. I was 5 or 6 and was a good do-bee but my name never got called. Can we all say 'awwwww....' :(

Also remember fighting with my brother over who got to shake Lassies paw at the end of that show. And 'Father Knows Best', 'Make Room for Daddy' and westerns I can't recall the names of except 'Rifleman' & 'Gunsmoke', but there were many others.

Oh yeah..... Sunday evening we had to watch 'Lawrence Welk' cause my Dad liked it.

There was a religious kids show on Sunday mornings. It was the only thing we were allowed to watch before we all went to Church. I don't remember the name of the show but it was about Davey (a boy) and his dog Golliath. Davey always did something 'bad' and the dog would say in this droll, deep voice 'God won't love you anymore Davey'. Of course in the end Davey corrected his bad deed and all was well.

I watched those too Teddy...Davey and Goliath. I was watching one of those old shows more recently and was shocked about how racist the show seemed but knowing that it was actually their attempt at integration. Funny how things look different in the rear-view mirror than they did through the windshield.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Romper Room... Bend and stretch reach for the stars, there goes Jupiter there goes Mars. Oldfart will have something to say on that topic :D

Definitely "Electric Company"! Sesame Street, the Muppets, and Mr. Dress-up (a Canadian show). We also watched "The Littlest Hobo" in the evenings. Ahahahahaa, it was the ultimate in cheese. This German shepherd would meet new people in every episode and save them from whatever was wrong -- explosions, trapped in a fire, etc.

Sesame Street, and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, of course.

Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and there was this one show, Zoobilee Zoo with all these weird animals and stuff.

Smurfs, Gummie Bears, My Little Pony...God this list could go on forever!

Old cartoons & such? How about Astro Boy & Super Chicken!

I'm from the same era as Teddy, & I well remember "Romper Room", but apparently it was something like a franchise operation, with each local market doing its own version of the show with their own "teacher"...I remember Miss Eleanor being replaced by Miss Nancy, & unlike Teddy, I was not bothered that they never called my name out as a "do-bee"...I was grateful that they never called me out as being a "don't-bee"...I remember one of the big taboos as standing up while riding in the car, that was the era when a child car seat was considered a luxury for babies to sit in, & it was just a primative device that loosely hooked over the seat back...
The other kiddie show I remember was, of course, Bob Keeshan as Capt. Kangaroo, with Mr Moose, Grandfather Clock, Bun Rabbit, Dancing Bear, & not to forget, that dopey old Mr Greenjeans...we also had a local version of Bozo the Clown, that I actually got to be in the gallery once; the guy that that dressed up as Bozo was actually a deacon in our church...
Mentioning Kermit's 50th reminds me that the Muppets did not start out as a kiddie show thing, I remember seeing the early Kermit on programs such as "The Jack Paar Show", he would hum "Little Glow Worm" & eat every little worm that came along, until a big fat juicy worm comes along, too large for him to swallow in one gulp, he pulls on it & discovers it is the trunk of a huge scary monster thing that devours Kermit instead...not exactly the kinda thing sweet dreams are made of, but I found it fairly amusing as a 6-year-old...

I didn't get TV until I was eight or nine.

We had the yank imports like Rintintin, Tales of the Texas Rangers and such, Clutch Cargo and Space Angel,

(cartoons where only the mouth moved in close-up) and early Aussie stuff like Ten Town and the Magic Boomerang.

There wasn't much brit stuff about then.

And Lilith, I love it when you bend and stretch things.

I watched the usual fare that was on TV for kids but my favourite shows were not ones specifically geared to kids.

I loved the original Twilight Zone and I never missed Combat starring Vic Morrow. The Red Skelton show was a must too in my house, along with Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Bat Masterson and all the other westerns on in the '60's.

My first crush was Richard Chamberlain in Dr. Kildare........

Romper Room ... in the west we had Ms Julie .... and I even had one of my bits of art get mentioned on the show ....

"Here I come to save the daaaaaay" Mighty Mouse ....

Top Cat .... Batman .... ummmmm and the whole family would gather to watch Combat, oh yeah ... and still one of my personal favorites .... Perry Mason. :) guess I watched toooo much tv.

And we all thought Perry had his eye on Della Street.

That's interesting. I was unaware that Rocky & Bullwinkle harkened back to Crusader Rabbit. :)

After the sat. morning cartoons there was Sky King,My friend Flika,Hop-a-long Cassidy.Dad was big on all the westerns Palidan(sp),I even had a gun and holster set with the derringer in the belt buckle,Rawhide and many others and Red Skelton on sat.nite Its a shame that familys are to busy to set down and watch tv together.

Howdy Dowdy and Mr. Roberts were two I remember watching as a small kid. :)

I never missed Sky King on Saturday mornings and I had a Palladin holster set complete with the derringer that popped out when you pushed out your tummy...."Have Gun, Will Travel". I was the only girl with one and it made me quite poplular with the boys lol.

When my kids were younger I used to watch TV with them.....Friday nights were for us every week whether we went out, played games, watched movies or just chilled watching TV. We watched the Hulk, Dukes of Hazzard and of course Dallas lol....My daughter first fell in love with Brad Pitt when he was on Dallas....my son loved to watch waiting for JR to do his nasty deeds lol.

Little did we know that Perry preferred Paul Drake!

Oh my gawd,These were all in Black and White.

One of the very few good memories I have of my father starts out bad...Mom would "take a break" from the 5 of us on Saturday's, and ride the bus to Philly to shop and do whatever, and dad would have to "watch us". Most times he'd get so overwhelmed with 5 kids to keep in line and he'd end up spanking someone and sending us to bed early (around 6-7pm). We'd all take turns (whoever's week it was) and go down and ask, "Could we please come down and watch The Jackie Gleason Show or The Honeymooner's. We'll be good...we promise!" Sooner or later he'd give in and let us out of our rooms to see the show. Most times we actually were good and we got to see the whole show!

Who remembers the June Taylor Dancers? Or the time Jackie Gleason broke his arm on stage? "And awayyyyyyyyyyyy we go"!

Jackie Gleason was good but my favorite was Red Skelton... damn that man was funny. Gertrude and Heathcliffe, Freddie the Freeloader, and what was the kid at camp who always sang "Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder..." fond memories of laughter and family. They just don't have shows like that anymore.

At night I watched Sonny & Cher and The Carol Burnett Show
