*#&^%*$# fecking Wallpaper

Never ever again! Anyone wanna tell me how to get this shit off the wall in more than a 3 cm shred at a time????

BIBI 06-25-2005 10:55 AM

Go and buy some wallpaper remover. You mix it up with water and soak the paper. The paper bubbles up from the wall and it is easy to scrape off in big pieces. The trick is having the patience to let it soak in.

Lilith 06-25-2005 10:57 AM

I've been scoring it and soaking it and now am using the absolutely most appropriate tool for the job....a spatula :p I tore 3 holes in the drywall being in a hurry :yikes:

BIBI 06-25-2005 11:01 AM

you mean you bought wallpaper remover and it's not working ??????

BIBI 06-25-2005 11:02 AM

Lil if its vinyl paper you have to pull off the vinyl layer first and then remove the backing left on the wall with the method I mentioned

PantyFanatic 06-25-2005 11:03 AM

Sounds like it's been painted over some of the layers. You can rent a special wallpaper steamer that dose a great job.

(slow down) ;)

Lilith 06-25-2005 11:06 AM

Right! TY BIBI, I know you are right...That is what I'm trying to do...I did not buy remover because the last time I found it really not any more effective than water, but this time I may have to go get it. It's soooo hot and with the ceiling fan on the liquid is evaporating and drying instead of soaking in good!

Oh and well patience is REALLY not my strong suit.:D

I don't know why I thought I'd actually get to paint today :p

BIBI 06-25-2005 11:12 AM

HAHAHA...Here I sit giving my sage advice and yet I am facing a wall that I should have tackled a year ago.......

Good luck Lil....I will never wallpaper again! lol

Lilith 06-25-2005 11:14 AM

Hold up sign : Will Domme for wallpaper removal services!

PantyFanatic 06-25-2005 11:32 AM

If it makes you feel better:) ………….. NO WAY you would have painted today anyway.

Most all of the time you have to a little spackling at best, to get a wall to look good with paint. Giving that time to dry and sanding before a sealer or primer, then waiting for that to cure before covering with paint would have made for a long day and a crummy job.

Just being dry to the touch isn’t enough. Anything that was wet should have at least overnight to cure before covering it with the next process.

BIBI 06-25-2005 11:33 AM

ahhh Lil...That crosses the street of "it hurts sooo good" to plain old frigging torture lol

WTF PF...........we aren't trying to boil an egg or anything her you know ? :)

Lilith 06-25-2005 11:57 AM

I don't use spackling...we were a millitary family...everyone knows you use toothpaste to fill the holes up in base housing :yikes:

Well thank you ever so much PF. I am sure that calling me elephant girl has placed a wonderful visual in everyone's mind's eye about me!

BIGbad 06-25-2005 02:37 PM

i've heard that liquid fabric softener is the best thing for the job, even better than the professional stuff. don't know if you dilute it or use it straight-up or what...saw it on hgtv so maybe they have a few tips on their website.

BIGbad 06-25-2005 02:38 PM

uh...oops! that^^^was from wyndhy. didn't realize BB was logged in....he's gonna be pissed cause now ya'll think he actually watches hgtv

Lilith 06-25-2005 02:51 PM

It's almost down...we discovered that we had lazily painted over old half removed border so now we got to reap what we had sown. Meanwhile Mr. Lil was not keen on the color I sent him to go get so he chose something else :yikes:

maddy 06-26-2005 12:10 AM

after destroying my walls trying to remove wallpaper i opted for hiring professionals to finish the job and fix my mess.

Lilith 06-26-2005 07:57 AM

It's down and I learned my lesson.

Fangtasia 06-26-2005 07:59 AM

*LOL*...poor Lil

So ya not going to rush out and by some new pretty wallpaper then?

*runs and hides cause i'm being cheeky*

Lilith 06-26-2005 08:04 AM

I cringe because I know I have 2 rooms that not only have border, but paper as well :o

Fangtasia 06-26-2005 08:05 AM

Oh crap.....feel for ya hun

Lilith 06-26-2005 08:06 AM

LOL but I don't hate those rooms enough to torture myself yet :D

Fangtasia 06-26-2005 08:07 AM

*LOL*....They may have Mr Lils name on em i reckon :D

wyndhy~ such a very good answer since I was shooting for a toffee :slurp:

PF~ right about now Mr.Lil would sell me to the lowest bidder :p perhaps the check should just go straight to him

maddy 06-26-2005 12:27 PM

color is always hard to tell from a photo, I was going to say a cross of adobe and terra cotta.

Lilith 06-26-2005 12:30 PM

thanks maddy! It's hard to tell on the wall too.

That was what I was thinking too...especially since it looks wet yet, so it will dry a slightly lighter shade...I kinda like it.. :D I can see burgandy, yellows, and royal blues with that color too.. hmmmmmmmmmm - Cobalt?

Lilith 06-26-2005 01:29 PM

The curtains and pillows I made are deep shades of navy, burgundy, and green with some of the toffee/goldish color running through them.

I was aiming for a more manly distinguished look. Mr. Lil has had to live in flowers and froo froo of my choosing for many years now. So I suppose letting him have picked the color shouldn't bug me.....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh but I'm a control freak :D

PantyFanatic 06-26-2005 04:15 PM

"It'll look different when it drys."

Fangtasia 06-26-2005 05:19 PM

Oooooo i like that colour
