Ow

My spleen hurts.

Left work early Tuesday due to severe abdominal pain. Went to an urgent care place, the doctor there listen to various body parts, poked & prodded my abdomen. Eventually took x-rays. Then she said "Here are your x-rays, take them to the emergency department at the local hospital".

They did some more listening, and poking and prodding, and eventually took more x-rays. They also did some blood tests.

Turns out I have an enlarged liver, and enlarged spleen, "stringy" lymph nodes, and mononucleosis.

I have to avoid all contact sports for four weeks. And yes, that includes beating my sub(s). Ug.

wyndhy 12-02-2004 01:06 PM

yikes! :(((((hugs)))) gekkogecko. take care and listen to your doctors.
at least people usually get it only once. :)

Sending vibes of healing in hope that you are well and stay well soon.

Pita 12-02-2004 01:13 PM

Awwwww I wish you a speedy recovery. I'm sure your subs will miss their beatings. ;)

osuche 12-02-2004 01:18 PM

I was unaware that mono causes an enlarged liver...I'd keep close watch on that....spoken from experience. Due tot he meds I am taking, the dr. checks my liver funcion thru blood tests every 6 weeks. Liver damage is a BIG problem.

((((gekko)))) ~ feel better

gekkogecko 12-02-2004 01:18 PM

I's all my fault, of course. I bitched one too many times about having to work every day this month except christmas itself.

I don't have that to worry about anymore.

Osuche-I ve a fairly high pain tolerance, so I've chosen not to use any of the pain meds available, don't want the possible liver disfunction they can cause. Especially NOT the tylenol-3 the ED prescribed for me. Ug. Still considering some anti-inflammatory options, though, would be good to take down the swelling in my internal organs.

osuche 12-02-2004 01:33 PM

I take indocin....and if you get the enteric coated type, they work pretty well....no indigestion. (it's the other stuff I take that bangs up my liver)

Take care of yourself, and keep us up to speed on your recovery (((gekko)))

Lilith 12-02-2004 01:36 PM

osuche I am horrible bad allergic to indocin...took it as a teen and wound up in the emergency room out of my freakin mind sick

wyndhy 12-02-2004 02:09 PM

ibuprofen is metabolized in the kidneys. maybe you could try that?

WildIrish 12-02-2004 02:46 PM

Hope you feel better soon. Have the subs beat each other if they get too frisky.

Navarre 12-02-2004 05:52 PM

If you're having a problem with unruly subs, I'd be glad to drive up and give you a hand.

Have quirt. Will travel.

LixyChick 12-03-2004 05:50 AM

Yikes! ((((gekkogecko))))

Who was ya kissing and slobberin all over that gave you that?

Awwwwwww...just kiddin! Take good care! Drink LOTS of fluids and keep up your strength by eating good meals at regular times. Get plenty of rest (like you have a choice???), but for Pete's sake (whoever Pete is) don't skip meals because you are too tired to eat! You NEED to make sure you don't dehydrate too...so get out that blender and make some fruit smoothies to kill two birds with one stone (nutrition and hydration). It'll take time, but then you know that! I hope you start feeling better soon! Keep us posted...

Oldfart 12-03-2004 08:07 AM

Do what you need to do to stay here.

Fuck the other considerations.

Get well and we'll talk about the rest of the stuff.

Talk more while getting better.

gekkogecko 12-03-2004 12:59 PM

Fruit smoothies...I like that idea. Thanks for the suggestion, Lixy.

cowgirltease 12-03-2004 02:21 PM
