Pixies CD ~ Hurricane Jeanne

This joke is not a joke anymore.:( If I were smart, I would be calling my stock broker to buy U-Haul and Energizer Bunny droppings, but I’m more concerned about some people that have to be nearing the end of their rope this season. The repetition of hurricanes does not diminish the danger and the apprehension we are feeling for our members. Hopefully we will be hearing from each one with a post here as soon as possible after Jeanne has pasted.

Quote:
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) - Hurricane Jeanne forced the evacuations of more than 800,000 residents Saturday as it bore down on Florida with winds near 105 mph and threatened to strengthen into a major storm…… Jeanne, churning across the Bahamas, was poised to slam some of the same areas hit by the earlier storms, potentially transforming still-still-uncleared piles of debris into deadly missiles……
No state has been struck by four hurricanes in one season since Texas in 1886. Jeanne could turn into the latest in a devastating chain of hurricanes that have rattled southwest Florida (Charley), the state's midsection (Frances) and Florida's Panhandle (Ivan). Combined, the storms have caused billions of dollars of damage and at least 70 deaths in Florida……
About 817,000 people in communities from Miami to Daytona Beach were under evacuation orders for mobile homes, low-lying areas and barrier islands.
Jeanne, earlier blamed for at least 1,100 flooding deaths in Haiti, looked early in the week like it had turned north and was headed safely out to sea, but it made a jagged loop that brought it toward the Bahamas and Florida.
At 2 a.m. EDT, Jeanne was centered about 270 miles east of Palm Beach and was moving west at 14 mph, slightly faster than it had moved most of Friday. Sustained winds were near 105 mph, up from near 100 late Friday, and forecasters said it could grow even as it reaches warmer waters closer to Florida's coast.
An eventual turn to the northwest and the north was forecast, but it was unclear when that would happen, and some models show the storm affecting the East Coast all the way up to North Carolina by Tuesday.
Hurricane warnings were posted from south of Miami to St. Augustine in northeast Florida, and a hurricane watch was up from St. Augustine northward to Altamaha Sound, Ga. A tropical storm watch wrapped around the tip of the Florida Peninsula and extended north along the Gulf Coast to the Suwannee River……

No news is not necessarily good news and it certainly isn't safe news.:yikes:

cowgirltease 09-25-2004 11:50 AM

TinglingTess,

At least you still have your sense of humor!

imaginewithme 09-25-2004 01:48 PM

I am so sick of this, as I am sure all of you are. Anyone have a place for sale up north????

Pita 09-25-2004 01:52 PM

I am trying to. Our weather man sounds more worried then he did on the last two hurricanes. Also the main line they show is going right to me. Winds could be up to 85 mph or higher.

dicksbro 09-25-2004 02:54 PM

Please, Dear God, take care of our Pixies at risk. And Pixies, please, please take care of yourselves and stay safe. All of you in the southeast ... just know, you've got a lot of love and prayers going for you. (And check in when this thing is over. We'll keep the coffee hot.)

Sharni 09-25-2004 04:21 PM

Damn they're really copping a flogging eh!

Please all be safe!!!

kathy1 09-25-2004 05:42 PM

Hang on Florida Pixies.....still got you all in my good thoughts and prayers....geez i hope it don't get bad here. The ground is already so saturated, a pissant could fart and trees would start falling.

Summer 09-25-2004 09:05 PM

Huricane Jeanne

We're OK here unless Jeanne decides to keep going west into the gulf. We'll just have to wait and see. Worrying about our friends in central Florida now; Tess, Summer, etc. Hope they are OK.
Joe

Has anyone heard why there are so many hurricans this year and why they are drawn to Florida like a magnet? Stay safe.

JAG2888 09-26-2004 04:26 PM

Butt kicking

We are still getting our butts kicked here in the center of the state. People are tired, I am tired. This season can not end soon enough. Good luck up in the northern part of the state my friends.

dicksbro 09-26-2004 04:34 PM

Glad for everyone reporting they're safe so far. Thanks to you, IWM, for relaying TT & Studmuffin's message. Glad they're okay.

Now some sad facts and forecasts for our people.
Report as of this posting is 6 dead people in Florida and up to 3 weeks for electrical service to many.
Our southeast coast members north of Florida are now dealing with Jeanne and more will be.

Some probabilities for those interested.

wyndhy 09-27-2004 03:20 PM

here's to wishing for calm skies in the south east for the rest of autumn.

Summer 09-28-2004 08:14 AM

I am on (due to borrowed generator power) and having fun looking through. My family is ok. The house has some damage. The detached garage is leaning and had the doors ripped off. My little potting shed (screened in room) is gone. I lost about 4 more citrus trees and the trees still standing lost most of their fruit.

My husband has been working working helping lots of people around here to secure holes in roofs etc. We are in Highlands County and have been told we had winds up to 120 mph. As of 7:30 this morning it was reported that 38,000 people are still without power. Schools here are closed and hope to open Thursday.

There is lots of good humor here. People are helping each other and are being real giving. We are blessed because we have a gas water heater so I have been having people coming just to take a warm bath.

sodaklostsoul 09-28-2004 09:04 AM

(((((((((((((Summer))))))))))))
