* Turn the Station *
The Laura Branigan thread got me thinking...
Is there a song/ some songs that cause you to reflexively turn the station immediately??? I know I have odd taste and often dislike things others like so I am curious if you guys flip off anything that I do. |
I honestly CANNOT do rap music. It is very annoying to me.
|
Anything by Norah Jones....sorry to those who love her, but I find her whiney. :)
|
I dig her but will change the station for any and every CCR song and I'm not fond of Africa by Toto
|
Anything by AC/DC

Nothing wrong with the odd bit of AckerDacker :D:D Casey Chambers...all but 1 of her songs grate my nerves no end! Eminem ~ Yuck majorly Heavy heavy metal shit Rap If i find anymore i'll let ya know *LOL* |
RAP isn't music!--and fortunatelly I have my radio tuned to ignore rap stations!
There are a lot of slow songs that I turn off or station switch--for me music needs bounce to keep the blood flowing |

I'll trade you AckerDacker for sexy Eminem! As Irish says, different strokes for different folks. :D The lead singer's voice kills me. "YEAH, shook me all night long" reminds me of head-banging, air guitar playing, acid-washed jean boys in high school :) |
Would be damn boring if we all liked the same thing...thats my take on it *L*
You Shook Me All Night Long is one of my favorites LMAO |
I switch for Guns & NeuRoses...& if the station buttons quit funtioning when "The Joker" comes on, I'd rip the fuckin thing outa the dash...something about Steve Miller Bland just sets my teeth on edge...
|
Rap is definitely not sumpin I will ever listen to. I just don't get it. I must be old!!! Every time I'm within earshot of it, it just makes me cringe......wonder if that's what Mama used to think every time I cranked up Black Sabbath?
And anything by Shania Twain....... yeeeeeeesh, absolutely nauseating. |
I just save myself the aggravation and don't listen to the radio unless there's a game on of some sort. However, for someone with a wide yet (apparently) very picky taste such as myself, Internet radio is great as there are stations specializing in most varieties of music you could imagine. Other than that, I just put on a CD or tape or mp3s or whatever.
But...just to keep things on topic... If I were listening to the radio, I would change for the following songs/genres/artists: Almost all R&B Most rap Pretty much all commercial dance Pop-rock nu-metal Hoobastank - "The Reason" Disco (although I suppose that fits in with commercial dance) Just about all the Black Eyed Peas singles (Fergie is yum though :) ) The Chemical Brothers Fatboy Slim Emo Anything any Australian Idol has released that I've heard so far Most country that I've heard (though I'm willing to give the genre a chance if someone will show me "the good stuff") Creed Anything Nirvana will generally cause me to inflict violence on some inanimate object in close proximity Any song that commands me to dance is going to suffer violent insubordination I think that just about covers it. |
I don't do "Country" very well at all...but there are a few songs/artists that I won't fall over myself to to get off the air. Can't think of a one at the moment though.
"Rap" has it's place in the music menu...but it's not on my diet. There are some exceptions to this rule as well...I really like Kid Rock (rap mode...not country mode), Culio, and a few others (who escape me at this time in the morning). I know a lot of "oldies" (parenthesised because the oldies I speak of may be ancient to some peeps here...or not oldies at all to others) but I don't leave them on if it's not necessary. Stuff from the 50's get switched almost immediately if my in-laws aren't in the vicinity. Frankie Valli (as an example) had his time, but I don't listen to that kinda stuff much anymore. And...sorry to say it but I don't like the new Van Halen stuff (and I'm more disappointed at that fact than you know!) and I switch it ASAP, whenever it comes on. But, for the most part, I am pretty diversified in my musical taste and I'll listen/tolerate most anything just to have some tunage on in the situations it's called for (work, cleaning, parties, bars/clubs...etc.). |
I have a 16 yr old copilot who commands the radio when we travel. I mainly keep a CD in when I'm allowed. Just imagining I had a choice though, Rap is about the only thing I'd have a knee jerk reaction to switch off.
|
for me rap is crap, I just hate it.
not much into jazz either, I describe it as a band is playing a song and the singer is singing another. and operatic stuff is not my cup of tea |
Celine Dion.....sorta like nails on a chalkboard effect on me....and rap except by the old lady in the Wedding Singer lol.
Have to turn off Steve Miller if I'm driving....don't want to be lulled into sleep :) |
I had to learn to deal with some country, there were officemates who demanded partial control of the radio. But I demand the music have some kind of depth. Same for Rap, there's some stuff I can listen to, but I'm damned picky. If it's repetitive, self serving comercial crap, I've got no interest. If they've picked up an interesting riff, or the lyrics (ahem) capture me, I go with it. Never say never, right? ;) But I can't abide racist or anti-woman lyrics. Once chucked my brother's precious EZ E (or whatever his creatively spelled name was) out the window of a moving truck. Fuck that, music can get in under the radar of conscious thought...I don't need it loaded with crap. I've got the same problem with a lot of Eminem, despite thinking he's got some interesting twists.
I will turn the radio UP for CCR, and I sing The Joker at the top of my tone deaf little lungs. I blame my mother. I also know all the words The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, I think I knew them before I'd gotten past T in the alphabet song. Some things you just don't grow out of. Hell, the new Last Waltz compilation has a permanant place in my CD changer. What can I say, my taste aint perfect ;). I don't like most made for TV pop bands, but I've learned tollerance. I've traded my country loving officemates for a bunch of pop-heads. I HATE Justin "kicked in the nuts once too often" Timberlake, though. He's not in tune. Ever. Falsetto, fine, I can cope...I don't LIKE countertenors, but I can deal. He's NOT IN TUNE. I don't care if he can dance. Kylie Minogue. Her I turn off. Empty aural calories, that one. Moby. The stuff belongs in comercials, or psych wards. The song from that stupid Robin Hood Movie? The Brian Adams one? That's on the list. Duran f-ing Duran. All of it. God I hated the 80s. And, while I'm pitching a fit about the 80s...pretty much anything where the drums PLUGGED INTO THE WALL. Wankers. Man, I feel better now. G :D |
Creed and Dave Mathews
Don't know why, but they irritate me to no end. |
Elvis Costello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't stand him........his voice just does things to me that makes me want to go out and commit murder! I can appreciate his musical talent and his song writing abilities, but PLEASE, let him get someone else to sing his songs!!!! I also hate The Corrs and have to turn over when they come on, or else I end up singing along - and I hate myself for that! |
Another "Rap" disliker (is that a word?)
|
I will admit, I change the station for any and all hip-hop, and rap except Eminem, and any Britney/Christina/Jessica Simpson incarnation. Can't stand it. Just about anything else will suit my fancy. For a little while, anyways. :)

"On the Wings of Love" by Jeffrey Osborne...reminds me of an old g/f I'd rather forget.
eeech.... rabbit |
