Dream Team

apparently not. :(

Sharni 08-21-2004 09:11 PM

Huh? *LOL*

Lilith 08-21-2004 09:12 PM

The US basketball team is sucking ass bad at the olympics :p

dreamgurl 08-21-2004 09:14 PM

Yes they are, but once I looked at all the ones who are now playing for their home counrty, I knew why we kept losing lol

Sharni 08-21-2004 09:29 PM

*LOL* Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Catch22 08-22-2004 01:26 AM

They must be dreaming of their next pay rise.

Grumble 08-22-2004 05:54 AM

apparrently many pro basketballers refused to play for the olympic team

Catch22 08-22-2004 06:14 AM

Nor do many of the pro tennis players play either. The US did not have a baseball team in at all.

Steph 08-22-2004 12:05 PM

It's crazy that they lost to Lithuania!

HEY! I resemble that remark!!!! LOL What's wrong with Lithuania?????

PashkinThePanther 08-22-2004 01:47 PM

Dream team??? Just cos the US has the best paid pro league (at least I think it is) then the players concerned think they are the best. Individually they may be highly skilled but they sure don't seem to want to be a team. Plus the biggest players of all won't play if theres no appearance money etc, IMO. Greedy and stupid. Money cannot buy olympic medals, and I know which I would rather have...

Don't get me wrong, I love Lithuania (major part of my history degree was spent studying Eastern Europe) but when I first heard about the loss it was from a co-worker who said, "I can't remember the name of the country but it's one I've never heard mentioned in basketball before."

I totally agree with everything except the stupid comment.....afterall they're the ones walking away with scandalous amounts of money just because they are talented at a particular sport..... stupid are the ones that pay it!!! As for me, I'd much rather watch the Olympics and see not only the talent but the love of the sport, the patriotism, the team spirit.....just seems less jaded.

(You really like the panthers, pashkin?)

darogle 08-22-2004 02:56 PM

A group of egos thrown together and they refuse to play as a team. Sad that they couldn't put that shit aside for a couple weeks and get into the spirit of the games.

Scarecrow 08-22-2004 03:45 PM

The NBA doesn't play basketball anymore, its just a run and shoot game no offence or defence.

Sure do! Moved heaven and earth to get all the playoff games on videotape from last seasons run to the Superbowl. As I was never gonna get to be there, I called in favors etc. and I now have all the games on tape. I even lashed out for a copy of the Superbowl matchday program, before the game itself! And that wasn't cheap over here neither. Next thing will be a replica shirt...

For those of you who follow the game, watch the Panthers linebackers. Morgan, Fields and Witherspoon; death in white and blue!!

Vullkan 08-23-2004 03:07 PM

so true

"Dream team??? Just cos the US has the best paid pro league (at least I think it is) then the players concerned think they are the best. Individually they may be highly skilled but they sure don't seem to want to be a team" (Pashkinthepanther)

Have you seen them play? They look like a group playing for themselves rather then the team--all of them looking to be the star of the team; there just isn't any unity. Perhaps it isn't the money issue that motivates them but their over inflated egos--after all are they not the best players America has to field on the courts and should not all the other teams and players quake at their mirror presents?--HA! doesn't seem so does it.

lakritze 08-24-2004 12:47 PM

There should be no professional players of any games in the olympics. Time to let amateurs shine.Having a "dream team" of professionals defeats the purpose.

WildIrish 08-24-2004 01:12 PM

I much prefer to watch college ball, especially the girls. No, not because of that! Because they play basketball, real basketball.

They don't have a baseball team in because they didn't qualify

musicman 08-24-2004 09:55 PM

no offense but it looks good one them

Lilith 08-26-2004 01:18 PM

Obviously I'm daft....

What was the big deal about Brown calling a time out at the end of the game with Spain? Why was it inappropriate?

One might believe none did.

Apparently in European basketball it is considered poor etiquette to call a timeout late in the game with your team's win a foregone conclusion because it is considered that keeping your defeated opponents on the court longer than necessary is "rubbing salt into the wounds".

Lilith 08-26-2004 09:08 PM

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! TY I was not aware of that custom!

Neither was I, I only found out when informed by the commentator, 5-time olympian Andrew Gaze who played briefly in Europe (also some NCAA and NBA).

Lilith 08-26-2004 10:25 PM

The said Brown tried to rescind the Time Out when he realized but I guess it was too late...I did not see the game. I loved Brown when he coached the Spurs in the early 90's.

scotzoidman 08-27-2004 01:33 AM

saw a cartoon in the paper depicting Team USA with oversized heads...wish I had kept it & scanned it for y'all, seems to say it all...
