SuzyQ 03-12-2004 08:23 PM

Me too...but was in general chat, but while we are on the subject, I hate early release..

Oops ... now you tell me. :(

Any idea why they are releasing early? Not that I'm complaining - I'm a huge fan of both the book and the films (and I read the books long before I even knew they were making films... I first read LotR in about 1994ish).

I gotta say though - I was not entirely happy with Return of the King. Don't get me wrong, brilliant film, very well done; but they should have cut it. The length, in itself, wasn't an issue, but the last 30-odd minutes of the film, after being rescued, was not the same tone as the rest of the three films. It was too... I dunno... cutesy?

A.

So far I only see references to a "standard edition" being released (either wide or full screen). Is there going to be an exenteded edition like with the other two?

Sharni 03-13-2004 08:47 AM

The 25th of May will be the release date....a 2 DVD set

Yes there will be an extended version....it will be released at a later date

A Limited Edition will be released too...same as the other 2

Oh man i got the numbest ass....but damn it was brilliant to watch em all back-to-back!!!

Do see it with a progressive scan DVD player in 16:9!

IMHO, I was reminded of the "Star Wars" trilogy - I still liked the first the best .

Of course in marriage, the third was and is still the best!

It just means that we can drool over some of the male leads sooner rather than later.

dicksbro 03-13-2004 09:04 PM

I hope one of these days to watch all three back to back. That'd have to be amazing. :)

Sharni 03-13-2004 09:14 PM

It was amazing DB.....Well worth the sore back and numb bum *LOL*

I think they were just trying to follow the book. There's some 80-90 pages in the book after they are rescued. Even with that 30 extra minutes, they still didn't cover as much as the book.

Thrilled to hear it's coming out early though!

The release date is the same time as my son and my birthday so I guess Peter Jackson wanted to give us a birthday present huh... :p

There is talk that the LOTR saga will have one more flick...the original basis of the LOTR "The Hobbit"!! This hasn't been confirmed yet! but is being talked about a great deal!!! I hope they make it!

Sharni 03-15-2004 03:53 PM

Yep heard that too

But there'll be no Leggie in it  so if its not made...no drama for me *LOL*

Steph 03-15-2004 05:35 PM

I would guess it was released early to take advantage of the Oscar publicity, too.

Are you going to buy every DVD version of it, Sharni?

Sharni 03-15-2004 06:15 PM

I have

Fellowship of the Ring: Video, DVD & Extended

Two Towers: DVD, Extended & Special Edition

Return of the King: Promo DVD, Will be buying DVD then probably Special Edition

Also going to pick up the videos of TTT and ROTK...and on the look out for a Special Edition FOTR

in the tolkin range the hobbit is not the only book they could
do part of one of the book was touched on in the felowship
when it showed the battle where the ring was cut from the hand but not destroyed this in turn was lost in the river found by smegol's freind who killed by smegol the ring over time corupted him so golum was born crosses paths with a hobbit (bilbo) who
gives it up. to take us to the start of the lord of the rings

They show more of this in ROTK.....i believe it to be covered nicely in the Trilogy....no need for another on it..

The hobbit would be interesting...and dammit Legolas should be in it....he's old enough to have been around back then *LOL*

smithy020 03-17-2004 08:15 PM

Sharni I think u should just re-write the book then, as the screen play and send it off to peter Jackson, I'm sure tolken's family wont be too pissed at the idea of legolas being butt naked in the film when he wasnt in the book....
