IMing - what program(s) do you use and why?

There are so many IM (Instant Messenging) programs out there. I am just curious in what one you prefer or use and do you use more than one.

I have got MSN Messenger version 6 which I think knocks all the others (but I could be wrong).

When stating what program you are using, could you also include the version?

Lilith 10-30-2003 03:13 PM

I mainly use Yahoo

I have Windows but find it less reliable.

Tivboman 10-30-2003 03:19 PM

That's strange, Lilith.

I find the opposite. It's always Yahoo which causes me headaches. Windows and MSN Messengers work fine.

WARNING: Be careful when you install Windows Messenger on Windows XP. It is a sod to get off or disable. :(

Lilith 10-30-2003 03:25 PM

Exactly my problem!

Steph 10-30-2003 03:46 PM

I like Yahoo because you can send messages to people when they're offline, unlike MSN.

Teddy Bear 10-30-2003 03:52 PM

MSN Messenger - 6.0
Yahoo IM - no idea what version.
AOL Messenger - ? version??

I started out with Yahoo. Most of my contacts are on yahoo IM.
The members of my Girl Scout troop mainly use AOL. So I installed AOL IM to chat with them. Besides troop members, a few leaders & 3 or 4 family, I don't use AOL much.
Quite a few friends prefer MSN and only use that. So it was installed next.

I probably use Yahoo and MSN about the same amount of time. They both have their good & bad points. I think I like Yahoo best just because of the way it's set up and ease of use. Both Yahoo & MSN give me trouble from time to time. So both are unreliable. All personnel preference I guess.

yahoo msn and aim for me ....know t many ppl on em all to choose just one LMAO

http://www.trillian.cc

Trillian is multi-client IM - AOL, Yahoo, and MS in one application! And it's free.

MSN messenger ~ Running all the time

Yahoo messenger ~ Running all the time ~ main one i use...love this because you can run more than one ID on it at the same time

ICQ ~ Haven't reinstalled it as yet

mIRC ~ Use it a bit ~ need a forking pilots licence to drive it though *LOL*

paprclphd 10-30-2003 07:04 PM

Yahoo! Messenger:

I like the fact that you can be in "invisible" mode and that you can send "offline" messages.

Lilith 10-30-2003 11:48 PM

btw I am pixieslilith on both if ya ever need to get in contact with me.

jennaflower 10-30-2003 11:55 PM

Used to use ICQ... but found that it wasn't reliable (often getting messages days if not weeks late)

Now I use Yahoo... :)

m45 10-31-2003 12:45 AM

MSN
some times Yahoo
Have ICQ,
Earthcam

No trouble really with any

Grumble 10-31-2003 01:38 AM

MSN Version 6
Yahoo messenger
AOL messenger version 5

Never use ICQ as I had my identity stolen and it caused great troubles. I dont have great big lists these days, just my friends, mainly Pixies or former Pixies people.

FussyPucker 10-31-2003 03:55 AM

ooooooooo well let's see
MSN
Yahoo
AIM
ICQ
Odigo
Jabber

and a few others along the way that I can't even remember.
Oh and I've got multiple nicks on each one just to make it even more confusing :D

Are any of those nicks....Big Daddy????

FussyPucker 10-31-2003 07:21 AM

Sorry Lilith but all my other nicks are "respectable" ;)

Lilith 10-31-2003 07:29 AM

What fun is there in that?;)

FussyPucker 10-31-2003 07:32 AM

It's more of a shock when I smutt people up using a respectable nick ;) :D

Lilith 10-31-2003 07:43 AM

Yes it was:p

Belial 10-31-2003 07:45 AM

:)

In Windows, I use Trillian for AIM, ICQ, IRC and MSN, and Yahoo! Messenger because Trillian's Yahoo support always sucked, perhaps not anymore.
In Linux I use Gaim for AIM, ICQ and MSN, and BitchX for IRC.

Edit: Fuck, that was supposed to be a response to the IM thread..Lil, can you move it? Pretty please? :)

Lilith 10-31-2003 07:49 AM

since you said pretty please;)

Belial 10-31-2003 08:04 AM

Aww thanks! *hugs*

LixyChick 10-31-2003 09:23 AM

I voted "other".........not knowing I could vote more than one...(ok..ok...duh!)

So...I use Yahoo now......more so than MSN....but I have both!

Sugarsprinkles 10-31-2003 06:00 PM

I use them all, but seem to use Yahoo and MSN/Windows messenger the most. I like Yahoo because you can send offline messages and you can be visible by more than one ID at a time.

I don't know what versions, but they're all the most recent versions available. I know the MSN is version 6.0 and ICQ is 2003a. I use mIRC too, but there's still a lot to learn with that.

Tivboman 11-02-2003 09:24 AM

Thanks for the response, guys. :D

I have used AOL Messenger (when I used AOL) and I do sometimes use Yahoo (version 5.0) but always found that running both MSN and Yahoo gave my system problems (though that was also on my old computer).

I have known other people use Trillian but you do lose some functionality of the original programs? Is that right?

Steph 11-04-2003 03:03 PM

Wow, I'm surprised that yahoo won the race. Most people I know use MSN.

The people I know that use Trillian haven't complained about the loss of functionality, Tibvo.

Eros 11-04-2003 07:13 PM

After seeing this thread, I ran and downloaded Trillian....

I LOVE IT

So far so good, took me a bit to figure out some of the options, but it's great.

Stardust Memory 11-05-2003 08:55 PM

I use Yahoo and MSN the most.

ICQ and AIM (when I remember to turn them on) and AOL messenger since it is my ISP.

dancingrugger 11-06-2003 01:26 AM

I use AIM & Yahoo mostly ... sometimes msn

Belial 11-06-2003 07:48 AM

You do lose some functionality with Trillian, but nothing that I've ever actually needed.

cowgirltease 11-06-2003 08:28 AM

AIM and Yahoo;)

Sharni 02-19-2005 05:36 AM

*BUMP*

Anyone else?
