A Public Apology and Denunciation of their Statements is Required
to be considered for removal from the list

Please forward this list to other Americans so that they can be made aware of who they are supporting when they go to the movies or the movie rental store.

Don't support those that abandoned America in her time of need.

lakritze 10-29-2003 12:28 PM

Once again you got it ack basswards...These are to good guys. The truth sayers, the people we should be listening to.I have heard what most of them had to say and I agee wholeheartedly. No apologies or denunciations necessary.Support America's need for a regime change...Before it's too late.

Aqua 10-29-2003 01:24 PM

Bush has a history of being able to raise lots of money and then not be able to manage a business. The same thing has happened with his Presidency. The country has the largest national deficit ever, yet Bush has set a new record for the most money raised for political campaigning.

I'm gonna use this list... I think I'll start with renting a Martin Sheen flick....

Irish 10-29-2003 01:51 PM

Just so that people will know-"I" didn't get it backwards. This is a
reprint of the Pabaah website. If someone disagrees with you,it
doesn't make them wrong! That's why there are cars of different
colors.Everyone believes something different. It's also why this thread is called"Public Announcement".It is just information! Irish
P.S.Different strokes,for different folks!

babybunny 10-29-2003 02:20 PM

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because certain "celebs" dont agree with the man that is President of our country doesnt mean we should send their comments to everyone under the sun like gossip. Celebs are people just as we are. What about when Clinton was in office? Imagine the comments that were said then from all kinds of people. People will always talk.. whats new?

lakritze 10-29-2003 03:46 PM

You or whomever originated this BLACK LIST is asking good people to pass it along.I think that is wrong. These people not only have a right to their opinion, but a responsibility to wake the American people up to the REAL dangers in our land.So you consider your self a conservative republican, well fine. But these people are far to the right of even you. They are FASCISTS man.Get real...Listen to something other then Fox 11 and Clear Channel. This is getting scarry for the rest of us........... P.S. I too have signed the NION Petition as well as Ramsey Clark's Petition th impeach Bush.I have signed up as a member and contribute money to the ACLU,Amnesty International,People United for the Separation of Church and State as well as others.

Miss Behavin' 10-29-2003 03:51 PM

Scary. Very scary.

Shades of McCarthyism. *shudder*

jseal 10-29-2003 03:54 PM

Irish,

Don't sweat the small stuff...

...and that's 113 lines of small stuff.

Many people didn't like Clinton, many people don't like Bush. Don't be influenced by the Hollywood names. They're that same names that also failed to prevent the recall of their Govenor.

seriousfun 10-29-2003 05:22 PM

Considering the current state of this stupid war, I agree that these people are the real heros.

I will respectfully counter Irish's post with the following letter from NRA Blacklist:

Quote:
Dear Member of the NRA's Blacklist:

I bring you nothing but good news.

With your help, simply by forwarding www.nrablacklist.com to your friends, we have accomplished so much. What we need now is for you to keep passing the NRA blacklist along to everyone you know. If you do, we will succeed. Here is why:

1) 25,000 Americans have joined the NRA's blacklist in just two weeks. Our initial goal was 10,000. Then we asked for 25,000; today we are raising that goal to 50,000. The NRA may have the backing of the gun industry, but we have the people. All we need to do is get people who care to speak up and join the blacklist. We will deliver our petition to Congress and insist that we be heard. That's how it works.

2) The media buzz is growing. News articles and columns are appearing across the country. Wayne LaPierre, the Executive Director of the NRA, not only admitted that the NRA has a blacklist but said on the "Today" Show what he hoped to achieve with the list: "Our members don't want to buy their songs, don't want to go to their movies and don't want to support their careers." What arrogance. Is he for real? We wonder: How does he intend to punish the doctors, children, mayors, seniors and others who are on the list?

3) Our advertising campaign is expanding. Today, we have a full page ad in the New York Times and yesterday we were in Variety, urging readers to sign up for the NRA's blacklist. The ads are working and helping us to raise money and visibility.

We will not stop until we stop the NRA. It is out of control.

The NRA wants to put illegal assault weapons back on the street.

The NRA wants immunity for reckless gun dealers like Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, which armed the DC snipers and sold guns used in 52 other crimes.

Right now, we need to send the NRA a message and have thousands more join its blacklist. Please click here to share this e-mail with your friends and family and coworkers. The 60 seconds it will take will make a huge difference.

All the best,

The NRA Blacklist

It's not countering my post,it is another"Public Announcement!
I hope my name is on that list!I'm an NRA member. Not for guns,
but to protect the Second Amendment.
Again,I will say,I'm NOT a Republican.My wife& I are registered independants. Irish
P.S.We have always believed in voting for the person that we like,

Oldfart 10-29-2003 08:14 PM

I'm confused.

Is there some question about the right of people to have

differing opinions?

jseal 10-29-2003 09:04 PM

Oldfart,

I’d like to think not. That being said, one of the more unsatisfying aspects of contemporary democratic politics is the tendency of people to demonizing their opponents. That coarsening of the political discourse makes it, in my opinion, more difficult to address the large number of very real and very difficult issues with which humanity must come to grips.

Alas, America seems to be in the vanguard here. Then again, Americans are not known for their self-restraint.

Irish 10-29-2003 09:23 PM

OF---In the normal language, that means that you hit the nail on the head!(MY opinion) Irish

Vullkan 10-29-2003 09:48 PM

I have a few words for those that made this list...and they are not pleasant.

Yet for our current president I am very concerned for the future. I have been following closely what has been happening. Of late that has troubled my mind has been the consideration of developing Nuke bunker buster bombs and the possibility of nuclear testing. What causes me to fear is the acceptance that a "nuke" could be considered a battle field weapon. How soon would a "nuke" intended for deep earth penitration be considered for above ground us to destroy mobile formations?

The cancellation of the ABM treaty is another cause for concern and the insistant developement of "Star Wars" missile defense. Why would some third world power spend billions on developing the damn things and then many hundreds of millions more on a delivery vehical. It would make more sence for these countries to smuggle the things in to their targets and all the Darth Vaders atop orbiting Death Stars wouldn't matter for all the costs involved.

But of the current Iraq conflict--it was a fools trip made by the King of Fools. The military planning was near perfect--but the peace winning aspect leaves much to be desired. Sadly we have lost creditability with our own allies. In the future if a real threat comes along, just how supportive might they be to deal with a real threat? Now with North Korea we have but to hope that China of all countries will have to come to our aid top resolve this issue--anyone remember that little spy plane of ours that found its way on that Chinese island?

Granted many of these people mentioned in this list are flakes to be sure, but nevertheless had G. W. Bush listened to a few others outside his own inner circle our armed forces wouldn't be used for target practise this day.

All I can say is thank God I have no son--but as I sit here I weep in my soul for those whose sons live this nighmare now.

PantyFanatic 10-29-2003 10:53 PM

Very interesting!

I've been in the sand and prayed for the aircrews I launched into the night, and wept when one didn't return. 12 hours latter word was sent the plane had barely made it to safety with all alive. I've loaded flag draped coffins onto aircraft, and wept for someone's loss. I don't agree with some opinons, and remeber that all those who serve do so to portect our rights. Free Speech means to disagree sometime and even to burn/shit/ect. the flag I hold dear. Think of those lost and still over there

Sugarsprinkles 10-30-2003 12:24 AM

I really thought long and hard before deciding to respond to this thread. And defending it was certainly not my first impulse.

I disagree 100% with what Irish posted. I think it's patently unfair and un-American to attempt to blacklist those that have differing viewpoints. The McCarthy era is long gone, and good riddance to it!

I spoke my mind in the old thread about the Dixie Chicks. These performers are every much entitled to their opinions as Irish is. No matter how much we may disagree with either side.

I'm not sure to whom I should attribute this quote, but it goes something like this:

"I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I just hope that the younger members of Pixies don't lump all of us Baby-boomers or just-a-shade-older-than-Boomers into the same pot. We don't all think alike. We're all just as confused about what's going on in the world as everyone else, we've just had a longer time to pefect our confusion.

Grumble 10-30-2003 02:32 AM

I also agree that people are allowed to have an opinion and voice it.

For me the jury is still out on Bush, he certainly is a hawk not a dove and people certainly should speak out if they feel that there is something wrong happening.

Nazi germany would not have got going if the people stood up to be counted before Hitler assumed control and whilst I am not saying Bush is in any way to be compared with that crackpot, democracy is alive and well when people voice their opinions and are free to do so.

Teddy Bear 10-30-2003 06:30 AM

One of the many 'freedoms' of this great land of ours ..... and yes it is great!! ..... is the freedom of speech. Never silence those with different opinions because someday it may be you and no one will listen.

I didn't read the list closely but skimmed over it glancing at the names. Some I've never heard of. But number 78. Heath Ledger caught my eye. I'm pretty sure he's from Australia. Are we governing peoples opinions in other countries too??

pantyfanatic,

Thank you for providing an example of the point I was making. Comments of this nature are often called "ad hominem", being directed against one's opponent, rather than remaining focused on the issues. They add little or nothing to the debate.

This particular one includes a common mistake: that democratically elected leaders rule by dictat, like a king or despot. By specifying an individual, you imply that that individual is the "one" to address the issue. This is obviously false. Both in the tripartite system of government we employ here in the States, as well as the parliamentarian governments in the UK, Canada, and Australia (to single out only three nations), power and responsibility are distributed beyond a clique or oligarchy - thank heavens.

If one honestly believes in personal freedom, then it is injudicious - extremely so - to damage the tool provided to maintain it. That tool is the political dialog, which is at least wasted and at worst damaged when misused.

The absolute nadir is exemplified by the ant-abortionists; who think that because they believe that because they believe in something so very much that they are entitled to kill someone else. These people are, in my opinion, indistinguishable from terrorists. I, for one, resent giving up any of my liberties to the organs of state in the name of national security; when it – the FBI in this case – “needs” these intrusive tools to pursue and interdict these “true believers”.

Ah well, there are no utopias…

Irish 10-30-2003 09:45 AM

I would like to ask a question, without starting an argument!
I now live in NH.We have Metrocast cable, because the town,
signed a contract,with them.(No Choice,if you want cable,you
MUST use Metrocast)lakritze, lives in Calif.,according to his avitar.
He has suggested, that I watch, something other than Fox 11 or
Clear Channel. What are they?We have ,at least,3 Fox channels:
1:Fox network2;Fox News3:Fox Sports.Those are the only Fox
stations, that I'm aware of.As far as Clear Channel,I never heard of it!What is it?I have heard that there is a Fox station,on the radio, but I don't know what the call letters are.Again, this is not to
be a wise-ass,I really don't know.My daughters(another town)have another cable provider.(Comcast?)When my wife or I,babysit
,we are completly lost.No TV GUIDE channel,so we just have to go
thru every channel.Theres,not much,worth watching,(my opinion)
anyway, but with hours to kill, you have to do something! Irish

This brings to mind a quote from Benjamin Franklin:

"They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety."

Teddy Bear 10-30-2003 10:15 AM

Oh man... its getting to the point where you need a Master's degree to understand some of these threads. Having no clear understanding of what jseal just said, all I can add is: "Why can't we all just get along?"

teddy :)

PS: Halloween party at my house!! No politics allowed...... Just good sex. omg, lets hope Fairy-bird doesn't read this. lol.

btw -- I give out the 'good' candy and great costumes get something 'extra'. So, I want everybody to kiss & make up, let this thread die and start partying.

I know this is serious stuff and shouldn't be swept under the rug, but there's No need to PM me & tell me I'm way off the mark or an air-head or whatever. It just seems this is not the place for this discussion and it's gone on long enough.

Now back to that # 78 Heath Ledger ..... can't we just think about him instead? mmmmmm..... no costume required Heath, just come on over.

PantyFanatic 10-30-2003 10:38 AM

That is the issue from MY prospective.

I guess I provided more examples of what this is about than I was aware of at the time. And I did make a terrible PC error in using “he” in my query as to whether the specie, not an individual, is capable of addressing valid matters concerning it’s well-being and development, as opposed to it’s obsessions with internal conflict.

Bahahaha!!! FOX almost sued itself! :D

Fox nearly sued itself over 'Simpsons' parody: Matt Groening
Wed Oct 29,12:28 PM ET

NEW YORK (AFP) - Rupert Murdoch's Fox News Channel threatened to sue the makers of "The Simpsons" over a parody of the channel's right-wing political stance, the creator of the hit US television show has claimed.
In an interview this week with National Public Radio, Matt Groening recalled how the news channel had considered legal action, despite the fact that "The Simpsons" is broadcast on sister network, Fox Entertainment.
According to Groening, Fox took exception took a Simpsons' version of the Fox News rolling news ticker which parodied the channel's anti-Democrat stance, with headlines like "Do Democrats Cause Cancer?"
"Fox fought against it and said they would sue the show," Groening said.
"We called their bluff because we didn't think Rupert Murdoch would pay for Fox to sue itself. So, we got away with it."
Other satirical Fox news bulletins featured in the show included: "Study: 92 per cent of Democrats are gay... JFK posthumously joins Republican Party... Oil slicks found to keep seals young, supple..."
While the lawsuit never materialized, Groening said some action was taken.
"Now Fox has a new rule that we can't do those little fake news crawls on the bottom of the screen in a cartoon because it might confuse the viewers into thinking it's real news," he said.
"The Simpsons," featuring the dysfunctional family of patriarch Homer Simpson and his rowdy brood, is now in its 14th year and is expected to become the longest-running situation comedy in US history in 2005.

lakritze 10-30-2003 12:05 PM

Irish,It seems that we are both experiencing a shrinking consolidation of the media.Do you have only one cable company to choose from? So do I.Aldelphia swallowed (not in a good way) up the smaller cable companies around here while that crooked Regis family was still ran it.Irony is the only competition is the DISH network.Fox 11 is KTTV channel 11 and Clear Channel is a company that has swallowed (Not in a good way) up most of the comercial radio stations from coast to coast that we listen to.Around here both have gotten the reputation as the official gov't news and propaganda stations. Both have become synonomous with giving one point of view and not providing any alternative views on a given subject.I have to ask,If there ever was a "liberal media" out there somewhere, where did it go? where is it now? It all seems to be run by the major corporations who's views are anything but liberal.I hope you never take what I write here as personal attacks,it is not my intention. But I feel I must challenge what is being said though.

jseal 10-30-2003 12:17 PM

Irish,

I think that what he is suggesting is that the Fox network has a distinctly limited range of coverage, and that you would benefit by including other news sources.

Permit me to suggest the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/), as that provides a non-American view of the world. Additionally it is very current and well written.

Pantyfanatic,

No apologies needed; it is possible for reasonable men to disagree. It is the incendiary statements which fly all too readily these days which I find distracting.

Teddy Bear,

I expose my ignorance: who is this Heath Ledger? Serious beefcake, I presume?

Steph,

Love it! One of the members here has a sig that goes something along the lines that it takes brains to appreciate parody but not to be offended by it. Fox proves the point.

Irish 10-30-2003 12:21 PM

lakritze---Thanks!No,we don't have a choice,in what Cable Co.
we get.The town signed a contract,with Metrocast,so it's the
only one, that anyone in this town, can get.One of my Sons-in-

if,he knows that it's for me,I get immediate service.Plus, his company truck,is stocked with everything, that could be needed on the road as he also troubleshoots. It's the same situation, with
the banks. The neighborhood banks have all been bought by the

RE: Heath Ledger....an an Aussie actor....starred in 10 things I Hate About You....A Knights Tale....recently in Ned Kelly (with Orlando Bloom *dreamy sigh*)

I stated my thought on this whole war thing in another thread

To be honest i dont believe this topic should be bought up here at Pixies.....we are a multicultural site and as such have a WIDE variety of differing veiws.....and we should respect all members input...politics is dangerous ground to be playing in ppl....not in humankinds lifetime will everybody agree with everybody else...so i think this thread needs to just be let go

Sugarsprinkles,

Indeed so - yet we will always be called to balance our desires for personal freedom against the behavior of those who would, like the terrorists, seek to destroy what our country represents.

As the external threats to our nation increase, so will the calls for "temporary" powers to protect it.
