Two hundred and fifty MILLION dollars...

...he says in his best Dr. Evil voice, with pinky finger up to his mouth.

Yes, Powerball is up high again. A quarter billion US dollars. Not quite what I'd call obscene yet (that'd be half a billion ;) ).

So, thoughts of recent events here aside (in other words, set aside, for a moment, using the money for pixies, which I'm sure is on lots of people's minds). How ELSE would you put THAT kind of money to use?

dadaist 07-08-2003 01:22 AM

Myself, I think I'd go with some environmental charities first. Things I once belonged to and haven't donated to in a while. The Cousteau Society and the National Arbor Day Foundation come to mind. Some of the charities DNA supported very avidly during his (brief) life come to mind as well.
Then perhaps donations for medical research. American Lung Association comes to mind (being a lifelong asthmatic).
And then perhaps some technology donations. Fund some open source projects perhaps. Or help some kids get new computers in their schools, where they're needed.

And make sure I was living solo and comfortably, of course. :P

RandyGal 07-08-2003 01:53 AM

I would spend the money wisely of course, but I'd also hire someone to clean out my PM boxes at the sites I go to. :p

:D ;)

dadaist 07-08-2003 02:04 AM

Some people like being a packrat about mail and messages. Nice way to bring back memories at times. :P

RandyGal 07-08-2003 02:05 AM

Actually, I do that too dadaist.

:)

dadaist 07-08-2003 02:07 AM

Well, thbbbbbbbbbbbppppppppppttttttttttttt
atcha then.

dadaist 07-09-2003 10:53 AM

Tonight's the night! :p

IAKaraokeGirl 07-09-2003 10:56 AM

$250 million would finance a number of trips to Iowa, dadaist. ;)

dadaist 07-09-2003 11:00 AM

I could do all 50 states and then some! :p

Or buy my own hotel and fly everyone to Chicago. There's an idea.

IAKaraokeGirl 07-09-2003 11:01 AM

~trying to imagine the name of dadaist's hotel~

Pixies Palace?

Point of Pleasure?

lol :D

dadaist 07-09-2003 11:05 AM

With my chat handle?
Cabaret Voltaire, of course!

:p

With internet connections and webcams in every room (which you could turn off of course)!

Talk about your living performance art piece!

BlondeCurlGirl 07-09-2003 11:16 AM

Could I be in charge of publicity for your hedonistic hotel?? :D

dadaist 07-09-2003 11:20 AM

Does that mean you'll report directly to me? ;)

Work _under_ me? ;)

Or you just get to help me pick our 'best of' video clips for the promotional video CDs and DVDs? ;)

(Sticky job, but somebody's gotta do it...)

I do this every time I buy any lottery ticket. I’ve always looked at it as the “Entertainment Fee”. Like going to a movie and paying $8 to have your mind occupied with new thoughts or a carnival and paying $10 to throw the balls and win a $2 cupie doll. It’s the fun of it you’re paying for.

After the mortgages and any car notes of all family members was paid off, all Pixie members with over 1,000 posts gets a new computer (biannually;) ) and DSL service.

Then some of your environmental charities would become much more tolerant of people that ALSO openly supports a porn site. Sagans’ Planetary Society is near the top of that list. Then in all sincerity, deforestation and population are the primary concerns I have. You reduce the global population through attrition to 3 x 10^9 (that’s 3,000 times the number of posts we are trying to make within 22 years ;) ) within 4 generations and ALL problems for mankind and his environment are reduced to nothing. That will require some real underwriting.

Then as all the Pixie ladies check into HOTEL PANTY, ….. in CLEVELAND ;), we leave for a lingerie shopping spree before the nightly party in the ballroom.
:jump:

I think DNA has different meanings to us. What’s yours dadaist?

dadaist 07-09-2003 01:09 PM

Douglas Noel Adams. In which case the charities would include things like Save the Rhino International, and so on.
(see www.douglasadams.com, click on news, follow the links).

PantyFanatic 07-09-2003 01:16 PM

What’s that brown stuff between the rhinos' toes?

Slow pygmies.

(lol- sorry:D I couldn’t resist)

and I was suppose to recognize that? lol:D

dadaist 07-09-2003 01:22 PM

No, but people who knew whom I was talking about probably would have done.

PantyFanatic 07-09-2003 01:24 PM

You're right again. Probably both of them would have known. Sorry to live such a sheltered existence.;)

jennaflower 07-09-2003 09:40 PM

Me...

I have this fascination with Hummers.......... hehehe...

and I figure there are many Pixies I would love to meet in person... soooooo........

My first thing would be to buy a map... map out where all my favorite pixies live.....

For those who live overseas... I would fly you all here... to MO where at the airport you would find a special hummer to drive to my location :)

For those in the US & Canada.. I would place a call to the nearest Hummer dealer to you... give them the specs for the particular Hummer I wanted... then I would have each and every Pixie pick one up for me.. and drive it here... for inspection :) Some would be given away.... others.. would me MINE :)

Any guesses as to who would keep them? That is the best part... wooohooooo :) Lets just say that my period of celebacy would be brought to an end :)

Not to mention... their shocks would be put to the test :)

dadaist 07-09-2003 10:31 PM

Okay, the drawing for the $250 million has occured. I had ONE number on my ONE ticket. *sigh*
I dunno if any of the other tickets I bought (for my parents and grandparents) did anything or not, yet.
And it's too premature to know if there's yet another rollover.

RandyGal 07-10-2003 12:42 AM

Dagnabbit Clyde! I didn't win.

Oh well. It might have helped if I had remembered to buy a ticket. :o
Color me dorky.

dadaist 07-10-2003 12:44 AM

Well if no one won I think I'll try the WI lottery instead of the Hoosier lottery. :P

dicksbro 07-10-2003 04:25 AM

I'd pay whatever it cost to put Pixies-Place back on the web and hire Kim as it's director. Then set up a foundation to help assure that this site could stay for years and years to cum ...

FussyPucker 07-10-2003 09:11 AM

oh dear looks like two people got a bit lucky

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...rball_jackpot_2

dadaist 07-10-2003 12:01 PM

Yeah one ticket bought in PA, one ticket bought in MO for those who haven't cliked through. Powerball is back down the starting place of $10 million. Its main competitor, the Mega Millions game (which Illinois is part of) is at $34 million for Friday, the 11th.
Guess I don't HAVE to go to Wisconsin after all, this weekend, unless someone here wants to convince me to make the trip anyway? ;)

The winners have the option of the annual payments of up to $125 million (splitting the jackpot in half) or taking lump sums, which will probably work out to $73 million (each), before taxes.

dadaist 07-11-2003 11:38 PM

Just for the sake of...well whatever.
Got $40 in tickets for parents and grandparents. Won $6. :P

LixyChick 07-13-2003 01:48 AM

I ALWAYS get the feeling I'm gonna win "this time" and then I find myself sitting in front of the TV like Homer Simpson (doh) as the game goes off!

I just know I'll win it next time though!

dadaist 07-13-2003 09:01 PM

And someone won the MegaMillions on Friday, so it's $10 million on Tuesday (7/15).
Powerball is $14 million for Wednesday, July 16th.

dadaist 07-15-2003 06:54 PM

Quote in this week's US News and World Report from one of the winners splitting what wound up being a $261 million jackpot:
