Hey STO...WTF was that movie about?????
So says my SO after about half the movies I watch...I like those freaky Indy films or some weird mainstream stuff...
I was watching Donnie Darko last night...messed up, and loved it, like movies that make you think, my favorite is probably Muholland Drive...took me weeks to figure that one out... What is your favorite or least favorite Strange or Weird Movie? |
Least fave weird movie................The Thief, The Cook, His Wife and Her Lover................
Fave weird movie...............Hedwig and the Angry Inch |
My fav in that regard is a movie I think was called
"Boon Dock Saints" Crazy film saw it about 1 year ago only once and have been looking all over T.V + Satellite to watch it again...it was rather crazy... Another movie I loved all though it might be considered mainstream was ShawShank Redemption.. seem that 20 times..still not sick of it Steinfibers... |
Got to be sex, Lies and VidioTapes
|
The weirdest least favorite I have ever seen has to be the very first David Lynch creation.......called Eraserhead!
Please if anyone has seen it and understood it TELL ME!!!!!!!!!! The weirdest one that I thought was great was another Lynch movie Blue Velvet. |
Steinfibers - The Boondock Saints was an awesome movie! I bought it at blockbuster for 5 bucks!
The other night me and my girl watched The Big Lebowski((more mainstream)) (her first time, my 3rd or 4th) - She said to me afterwards i watch to many fucked up movies. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is another great indie film also. |
Least fave.....Eyes Wide Shut
Kept thinking......This is gonna get better....right up till the end.......and it never did! Most fave.....The Butcher's Wife Something about a blonde Demi full of all that innocence......I think she pulled it off! |
Lixy I am sooooooooo with you on Eye's Wide Shut..........so disappointed
|
Eye's Wide Shut pissed me off just when you thought it was getting good with the whole sex party BAMN gets fucking stupid again.
Anyway my favorite movie is ........... ...drum roll ..... .........Hedwig and the Angry Inch! Oh yeah! Made me dizzy and made me never want another gummy bear again. |

Blockbuster eh? Never occured to me to go there for movies..Thanks for the tip...Blockbuster here I come! Lol.. Thanks..I hope the one near my house has it too, and for 5 Bux what a STEAL! |
Donnie Darko is an excellent movie !!!
My fave strange movie has to be Sexy Beast !!!! It has to be seen to be believed ! :) My least fave strange movie would have to be that wanky blair witch project bollocks thing......while in the cinema I stood up and shouted "This best not be the F*CKING end!" and to my horror.... yes it was the fecking end... oh well......other good "strange" movies to look out for are Ghost Ship and Death Watch. |
I loved (and think I understood) Eraserhead Bibi...but frankly havnt found a Lynch film I havnt loved.
|
STO,
Did you actually like (and/or understand) "The Lost Highway"? -That one has to be my least favorite weird movie. |
Re: Hey STO...WTF was that movie about?????

gotta be Clockwork Orange. I loved it and hated it all at once. THAT'S STRANGE! rabbit |
Funny is that so many of the movies mentioned here are either Kubrick or Lynch!!!
|
Fight Club was pretty fucked too
|
Gotta agree w/rabbit on Clockwork Orange, love/hate pretty much covers it...
As for maximum creep-out, I hafta say "Boxing Helena" took the cake...anybody see that one? |
Boxing H is a great flick scotz...
|
What was The Lost Highway about? I didn't get it at all.
|
Love: "The Unbearable Lightness of Being"
Love/hate: "Trainspotting" |

LMAO Fussy! I watched that movie on video at home on Halloween a few years back. Kids were coming to the door and I was elected to give out the candy. I did catch the end and I said something rather similar to what you shouted just as I recieved a knock on the door from a hourd of little ghouls! I was hoping upon hope they hadn't heard me! Too funny hun! skip.......So what's your general consensus on Kubrick? I've prolly seen more of his movies and just turned them off........I dunno.......maybe it's just me but.....yuck! And.......What about that Billy Bob Thornton film?........oh damn! He was a nut released from prison after X amount of years and turns out he was the least nutty of all the ppl he killed........well, anyway, that was a weird one....but I still liked it......in a slow sorta way! Just thought Billy Bob did a wonderful job in that role.......ummmhmmm! Oh.....and Dangerous Liasons! I think that is the name of the one I mean. Had that tiny woman in it that played an asian boy. Gawd, I suck at remembering movie titles! Guess I should never venture to become a critic! And BTW! redruM!!! LMAO! |
Fav - The Fight Club (anything with Ed Norton is good... so far...)
Worst - Eyes Wide Shut - lotsa hype... an open marriage therapy for Cruise and Kidman. Their marriage failed, so did the movie. |
Lixy.......BBT was Slingblade and the movie Dangerous Liasions was something dif (which I loved) but I know what movie you mean.......
|
Thanks ((((((Lilith)))))))! Hmmmmmmmm.......I wish I could remember that movie title!
ANYONE??? |
Oh wait..........Was it "The Year of Living Dangerously"????????
|
Ding ding ding...give that girl a bozo button...or maybe a popeye pin....!!!!
|
Damn, I'm good!
And so proud too, that I could remember that! I'll PM you with my home addy skip! I expect that button or pin in the mail ASAP! And P.S. skip!........I have a button for you as well! *wink* I knew that movie had a "Dangerous" in it's title somewhere! Hollywood is always trying to confuse me! OK...I know....really tough trick to do, huh? Shaddup! |
I still haven't figured out what it's actually about, but I love Luis Buñuel's The Phantom of Liberty.
Sooooooooo weird! |
What?? No one's mentioned my all time favorite fucked up movie?? PULP FICTION???? I had to watch the movie 3 times just to figure out the timeline. Boxing Helena was seriously fucked up, Dark City is another wierd one. Lock, Stock and Snatch are both incredible flicks. As far as trying to figure it out..what about The Usual Suspects...the last 5 minutes always leave me with my jaw on the floor, gets me every time. I've got Sexy Beast, but haven't watched it yet. Still need to see Donnie Darko.
|
Christine, you have hit on one of my all-time fave foriegn films, The Phantom of Liberty is a completely awesome film. I do not completely understand it either, but the director says that is the point, it is supposedly just a look into his thoughts on religion, politics and sexuality and no one should get it but him.
|
My comments on other movies here:
Slingblade, great flick, Thortons last great movie, and I wish he would write more, that seems to be what he is best at. Fight Club, ok movie with an awesome ending. Pulp Fiction: it is in my top 10 faves and just turned indies on their heads |
Hmmm..."Box of Moonlight" was kinda odd...
My favorite effed up movie is probably "Dark City" |
Ok..another I left out...Vulgar by Brian Johnson. It can be worked into the 4-part "Jersey Trillogy" by Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith(Silent Bob), Jason Mewes(Jay), Brian Christopher O'Halloran(Dante) are all in it. It shows a different side of Dante, he really has the stuff to be a dramatic actor, and Brian Johnson (Steve-Dave) shows his stuff as director. A REALLY f-ed up movie, but good all the same, go rent it if you can.
|
all my favourite movies fit in hear alot have alredy been metioned but some of the ones left out are 12 monkeys(brad pitt is the best crazy guy) glen or glenda is and amazing ed wood movie and I can't belive know one metioned 2001 a space odisy(sp?)
|
I was just "fixin' " to say, "speaking of Kubrick..."
"2001..." WAS indeed a weird movie. I wish I would have seen it BEFORE I went out and bought it. Also, speaking of Tarantino... (Pulp Fiction) I hated "Natural Born Killers" the first couple of times I saw it -but I eventually got used to it. (It was my ex-girlfriend's favorite movie and she used to watch it a lot) |
so far I owen or have seen most of these more then and there are a few I'm going to have to check out
my favorite that hasn't been list yet would have to Wild at Heart by david lynch |
Natural Born Killers was an Oliver Stone flick...all of his other stuff has been great, (Platoon, JFK) but Natural Born Killers was a piece of shit. I've watched it many times, trying to find the artistic meaning in it. I still find it as a piece of trash, the only movie I've ever walked out of. I rented it after the fact..and it was still horrible.
|
ok im cheating here as i didnt read the whole thread..... but gotta say far back at the start of the thread lilith mentioned the thief, the cook, his wife and her lover- i actually kinda enjoyed that one lol- must be my dark side lovin that one lol, i could talk all night bout movies(its a passion and ive seen so many i have trouble finding movies to rent lol- as well as not being able to remember titles of movies sometimes lol) but guess one i gotta say that i didnt like to much was a movie called- bad boy bubby - i dont know if you guys from u.s.a wouldve heard of it- but it aint a nice movie
|

|
Angel_25 ~ I was like 5 months pregnant and I think the scenes in with them cramming the book pages down his throat did me in but I did like the premise of the story.......
Has NO one seen Hedwig? A teacher paid me to see it.......... |
