My car overheated and I can't figure out why. It's more sinister than a coolant leak it seems.

PantyFanatic 05-04-2012 08:47 PM

I hope you're not seeing white clouds of smoke from the exhaust. :wish:

Lord Snow 05-04-2012 08:55 PM

Nope, just white clouds from under the hood. My dad suggests head gasket. We're both hoping the heads aren't cracked.

Then again.....if they are we can combine the 302 and the 351w we have in the garage we can create a 348 stroker and sink that into my ranchero..........Oh the possibilities of smoking tires!

White smoke just isn't good to see anywhere but I guess it's better under the hood than out the exhaust. Head gasket is a nice wish. Even if there aren't apparent cracks you may want to have them magnafluxed if you're going to try to assemble a real engine. Regardless, you 'will' need to check for warp if they overheated badly. :2cents:

PF, we're way ahead of you. Once they're off I'm taking them to a head shop (not be confused with a hed shoppe). They'll give them a thorough make over making sure they're not cracked, level, sealed, etc. I might also have an idea of where another set of heads for it might be. Not sure the cost on them though seeing as how the 351m isn't exactly the most common of Ford's engines.

What pisses me off is that I can't get head in a head shop.

Oldfart 05-05-2012 12:50 AM

. . . but you might get a root in a root cellar.

Lord Snow 05-05-2012 07:33 AM

Scotz, you have to go to a massage parlor to your head rubbed. A head shop works on car parts, not human parts.

In Australia would you get volunteers for the task!

scotzoidman 05-06-2012 12:38 AM

Well all right then, I'll just be pissed because I can't get head. Anywhere. Period.

Have you tried the TA truck stop on Old Hickory Blvd off I-24?

Oldfart 05-06-2012 05:57 PM

Signs of a well-spent youth, LS?

Lord Snow 05-06-2012 09:26 PM

Nope. I have never been a patron, nor do I really plan on it. I prefer abstinence.

OTOH, now I can be pissed that someone has a Strat that's more road-worn than mine. Dammit.
