An impressive tour de force of medical technology. Even one generation ago such achievements would have been most unlikely.

Congratulations. :thumb:

Recent events have reminded me I have been extremely lax in updating this thread.

I was in for check-up number 12 last week, and again all remains clear. Seen by "The Boss" for the third time in a row, who has now moved me to 3-monthly visits. I must confess that I had a wee blip round Christmas time, where I thought I could feel, well, something in my neck; however, another really thorough ultrasound put my mind at ease re that, so all is good for me.

Not such good news about my ex wife though. Now, I can't remember if I mentioned her developing breast cancer round about the time I finished my treatment schedule; apologies if not. Anyway, she had the whole chemo-mastectomy-reconstruction surgery thing, and all appeared good for her, too.
Unfortunately, just before Christmas, she found she had developed metastases in both her spinal cord and brain, which gave her a really lousy prognosis. Sadly, she passed away on (Easter) Monday morning, aged just 42.

I would like to point out now, that I'm not posting this for myself; rather, for my 17-year old daughter, who has lost a loving and devoted mother. For those of you who believe, a prayer for my daughter and her own continued good health both physical and mental would be very much appreciated. For those who don't believe, a simple good thought for her will also be most welcome, and also much appreciated.

Thanks for reading, and may you all enjoy the best of health.

Glad to hear you're doing well, dm!

So sorry to hear about your ex, though. Saying a prayer for your daughter.

How sad. ((hugs)) for the baby girl.

wyndhy 05-02-2011 10:29 AM

:( too young to lose her mom. (((hugs)))

Thank you Aqua, and ladies.

Daughter wants to visit the funeral home tomorrow, to say "goodbye" to her mum by herself, something that wasn't possible last week (for various reasons, mostly to do with her grandmother - a long, sad story I won't trouble you with.)

The funeral is on Wednesday, which will be a humanist service as per my ex's wishes.

Thanks again for the {{hugs}}. I shall pass them on.

Did your baby get to go say good-bye? When my Grams died, when it was my tie to go in the visitation room I closed the door behind me. Apparently this shocked others but I needed time to be alone with what was no longer her. I needed to say good-bye without having to worry if my actions and feelings were hurting others or being embarrassed by them. Peeps heard me through the door and kept knocking and I just told them to go away, that I'd be out when I was ready.

Let her go and block the door for her. Let her say good-bye her way.

She did Lil, thank you. She spent the time alone with her mum that she wanted, and seemed almost - serene? yes - afterwards. A good decision I think, for someone so young, and extremely maturely handled.

The service was unusually pleasant; relaxed, unstressed and, in parts, actually quite amusing! Sad too, of course, but a very good turn-out for her, and a goodly sum of money raised via collection for two charities close to my ex's heart.

Today my daughter told me that last night she dreamed of her mum, for the first time since she died. She was a wee bit upset about that, but I've reassured her this is utterly normal and will probably happen again. The most distressing thing was, the dream "morphed" into Miley Cyrus singing some ridiculous song! (Nothing new there, then!) Good to know she can still laugh.

Well, yeah, I can see how that would upset anyone.

DM, first I'm so glad to hear you are doing well. Continued good health to you.

Thought I'd put a few words in here.

Had check-up number 18 on Tuesday (18? Jings!) and had the Boss again; either he's getting better, or I was half asleep - a neck palpation, look down my throat using depressors, and camera up nose (Yeee-uccchh!! :( ) seemed to take only seconds! Anyway, 3 years and two months post-treatment and no signs of any nasties returning, so all is well in DM-land. Not back til April next year now! Woot woot!!
