Yep, so old and tired that the oldest player in the NHL scored the game winner in that triple OT and he also scored last night.:D

I wish your team the best, but in my heart I really don't think they can take 3 straight from the Red Wings.

Irish 06-11-2002 07:31 PM

I'm just curious.Is Carolina;the original Hartford Whalers?I thought that I heard that on the radio.I don't follow hockey;at all;
but I am originally from Connecticut;so I wondered.Years ago;I went to a couple of New Haven Blades games;with some drinking
buddies;but that was just to get shit-faced and watch;the fights;
in the stands. Some big-boobed blonde;sure did distract the goalie
when she waved her bare tits;at him!The cops threw her out;for
disrupting the game! Irish

Yes, Irish, they're the original Hartford Whalers. From what I've seen on TV, quite a few folks from Connecticut have made the trip down to whichever Carolina it is to support the team.

Svlad Cjelli 06-12-2002 07:14 AM

Irish, I am a huge Hartford Whalers fan from wayyyyy back (1986). As I type this, I'm surrounded by various Hartford (coffee mug, beer stein, jersey on the wall) and Carolina (miniature Stanley Cup, action figure of Ron Francis, mouse pad, jersey on the wall) paraphernalia.

It's great to see Whaler fans on TV, at the Hurricane games in the stands and outside the arena for the parties in the parking lot. Hopefully they'll have one more home game this year in which to party.

And yes, SugarSprinkles, your Red Wings are one tough team!

Irish 06-12-2002 07:51 AM

Sugarsprinkles&Svlad---Thanks!As I said;I'm not a great hockey fan because I followed ;and participated;in other sports.I grew up
in Conn. and moved back for(Approx.)6 yrs;after the service.I now
live in NH.I moved back here around 1971.I met my wife;while I
was stationed at Pease AFB.and liked NH better.(Wife was originally from Portsmouth,NH.) Irish

Not that I really like the Hurricanes.....but anyone who might beat Detroit has my support.

Svlad Cjelli 06-13-2002 04:31 AM

It's all going down tonight!! Can't wait until gametime.

GO 'CANES!

Why is that?

Svlad Cjelli 06-13-2002 09:43 PM

Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings, 2002 Stanley Cup Champions!

And for next year...

GO 'CANES!!!

Sugarsprinkles 06-13-2002 10:24 PM

Thanks!

Have to give the 'Cane's credit...they never gave up till the final buzzer! Kept me on the edge of my seat all the way!

They'll make it eventually!

darkmanx 06-13-2002 10:29 PM

finally Dominik has his cup, now he can retire in peace and go down as one of the greatest goalies of all time :D

Sugarsprinkles 06-13-2002 10:39 PM

Do you really think he'll retire? Or will he come back another year?

darkmanx 06-13-2002 10:42 PM

imo i think he SHOULD retire, he has nothing else to prove.....hes done it all

That may be so, but although I'm not one of his biggest fans, I would hope that he comes back for at least one more year.
Mainly because we will be losing our coach, and possibly other players as well. We don't want to have to replace any more players than absolutely necessary. And if he does retire, I'd love to see us get Chris Osgood back.
Some fool on sports talk radio overnight suggested if Hasek retires we should consider Eddie Belfour. They've got to be kidding!! The man is certifiable!!

Aqua 06-14-2002 01:25 PM

Congrats to the Red Wings!! You called it SS... Wings in 5. :D
Hope you celebrated properly... ;) :D

Sugarsprinkles 06-14-2002 02:19 PM

Don't know whether you'd call it celebrating or not but naturally I watched the whole game. Then all the post game celebrations that were televised. By the time they go off the air it's only 2 hours until I have to leave to do my paper route. I figure there's no sense in only 2 hrs sleep...I'd only feel worse so I stay up. Have already been up since 1 a.m. Thursday...
Go to pick up papers, which I assume will be a bit later than normal. Yeah.."a bit later" alright....didn't get them til 4 a.m.!!
Took me til 7 to finish delivering....it's now 3:30 pm and I haven't been to bed yet!! Over 36 hrs!!
Somebody catch me, I'm about to collapse!!

But, damn, it was GREAT!!! And the city maintained it's cool although there was plenty of partying in the streets. Only 6 arrests...mostly for drunkeness.

Thanks for all the Congrat's everyone!! It was SWEET!!

Now, who do we get to coach them next year?? Any suggestions????

Steph 06-19-2002 01:56 PM

Pat Burn's is taken so you can't get him. Maybe Bobby Orr? I'm grasping at fantasy here!

Woohoooo {{{{{{{{{{SugarSprinkles}}}}}}}}}}} It was a great series! I was at a sports bar for the third period and lit up a big fat stogie. My boyfriend was going for Carolina only because I was going for Hasek, I mean Detroit!

Thank God for the World Cup because I wouldn't know what to watch anymore!!!

Actually I think most of Detroit is hoping they hire one of Scotty's assistants...which one really doesn't matter...they're both extremely qualified.

Not really into soccer, and I'm already in serious Red Wing withdrawl!!!! WHEN IS TRAINING CAMP?????? (yeah, I know..in September:( )

Sugarsprinkles 07-03-2002 07:26 AM

Just read in this morning's paper that the Red Wings have signed Curtis Joseph! We're going from The Dominator to CuJo!!
And it looks like Chris Chelios will re-sign with the Wings too!

Sugarsprinkles 01-24-2003 02:13 PM

BUMP!!!!!!

Thought maybe I'd revive this since we have recently gained a new HOCKEY fan or two.......

WELCOME HOCKEY FANS!!!!

It's so nice to no longer feel alone.......:D:D

Steph 01-24-2003 02:17 PM

Hear, hear!

I'm worried about Montreal - they've just traded their goalie. When I was a kid, the Habs were my team but for the past several years, I've cheered for whatever team Hasek was playing for. Now that he's gone, I'm back to the Habs (though I keep it quiet, living in Toronto). I've never seen such rabid hockey fans as here in Toronto! I'm sure Detroit gives them a run for their money, eh SS?

aflyerfan 01-24-2003 02:32 PM

Heehee,I have watched a game or two :) . I am a proud follower of the hottest team in hockey.

LETS GO FLYERS

dude33 01-24-2003 04:50 PM

Vancouver Canucks are my team of choice since um birth. This year they are a contender for the cup. You heard it here!

Steph 01-25-2003 10:33 AM

I just read an article the other day about Vancouverites. One of the points was, "You know you're from Vancouver when you hear yourself saying, 'I know the Canucks are going to win the Cup this year'!" :)

cbass1976 01-25-2003 07:49 PM

Blues what other teams is there to root for?

A Little Humor

Two guys from Toronto die and wake up in hell.

The next day the devil stops in to check on them and sees
them dressed in parkas, mittens and toques warming
themselves around the fire. The devil asks them,
"What are you doing? Isn't it hot enough for you?"

The two guys reply, "Well, you know, we're from Canada, the
land of snow and ice and cold. We're just happy for a chance to warm up a little bit, eh."

The devil decides that these two aren't miserable enough
and turns up the heat. The next morning he stops in again and there they are, still dressed in parkas, toques and mittens. The
devil asks them again, "It's awfully hot down here, can't you
guys feel it?"
Again the two guys reply, "Well, like we told ya yesterday,
we're from Canada, the land of snow and ice and cold.
We're just happy for a chance to warm up a little bit, eh."

This gets the devil a little steamed up and he
decides to fix these two guys. He cranks the heat up as high as
it will go. The people are wailing and screaming everywhere.
He stops by the room with the two guys from Canada and
finds them in light jackets and bucket hats, grilling sausage and drinking beer.

The devil is astonished, "Everyone down here is in
abject misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourselves."
The two Canadians reply, "Well, ya know, we don't get
too much warm weather up there in Toronto so we've just
got to have a cook-out when the weather's THIS nice."

The devil is absolutely furious, he can hardly see straight.
Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the
heat because they have been cold all their lives. The
devil decides to turn all the heat off in hell.

The next morning, the temperature is below zero, icicles
are hanging everywhere; people are shivering so bad
that they are unable to do anything but wail, moan and
gnash their teeth.

The devil smiles and heads for the room with the two
Canadians. He gets there and finds them back in their
parkas, toques, and mittens. NOW they are jumping up
and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men!!!

The devil is dumbfounded, "I don't understand, when I
turn up the heat you're happy. Now it's freezing cold
and you're still happy. What is wrong with you two???"

The Torontonians look at the devil in surprise,
"Well, don't you know? If Hell freezes over, it must mean
the Leafs have won the Stanley Cup."

Cabrylla 03-13-2003 05:48 AM

two small words.....

GO WINGS!!!!!

Steph 03-13-2003 10:48 AM

LOL SS. The Canadian newspaper with the biggest circulation, the Toronto Star, had a huge photo of Doug Gilmour on the front page yesterday. With the recent trades, people are saying this is Toronto's best chance to win the Cup since they last won, in 1967.

I recently moved to T.O. and this is a true hockey town! I overheard three of my male co-workers talking about the Leafs last week:

M1: If the Leafs win the Cup, I won't be coming to work the next day.

M2: If the Leafs win, I won't be coming in for the next week!

M3 (obviously a Habs fan): Luckily, you won't have to worry about that.

True story!

Aqua 04-16-2003 07:59 PM

Whoa, Wings are down 3-0 for the series against the Ducks...

And the AVS are up 2-1!! GO AVS!!!!

Sugarsprinkles 04-16-2003 09:39 PM

Hey Aqua,

It ain't over till it's over............:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Steph 04-17-2003 02:10 AM

Unfortunately, it's over. I was just watching the last bit of the game at the bar . . . sad night for Red Wing fans. I was just getting off work and was driving to the bar when the Leafs lost in triple overtime. Sad, sad, sad!

I'm so sorry ((((((((SS)))))))))

Cabrylla 04-17-2003 06:16 AM

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll get em next year....unlike a few teams that will be leaving the playoffs in the next few days, Wings fans can say that with a straight face. We still have a lot to be proud of, and a numerous amount of young talent that will be more than ready for another Cup with the next season.

Aqua 04-17-2003 01:24 PM

My hats off to the Red Wings... I am shocked to see them out of it so soon, but like Cabrylla said, there's always next year.

Irish 04-17-2003 02:30 PM

I wasn't going to say anything, but this reminds me of the Red Sox
baseball team.My wife&one s-i-l are a BIG fan of theirs. They always say-"Wait until next year!"The last year that the Red Sox won the pennant was 1985!That may be like comparing apples&
oranges.but that's what it reminds me of. Irish
P.S.My favorite football player was John Elway. The Broncos were in the Super Bowl many times, but how many years was it before
they finally won it?

Sugarsprinkles 04-17-2003 03:31 PM

Well, it IS over..................for this year.

I won't make excuses. The Wings came up against a young, eager and extremely HOT goalie, in Giguere. It happens.
They didn't play like "THE WINGS", and The Ducks beat them fair and square.

But like Cabrylla said....unlike some of the teams that will be elminated along the way, we can say with a straight face, and mean it....Wait Until Next Year

Now that my Wings are out of it, I'll be rooting for St. Louis. They have the goalie that Detroit NEVER should have traded, in my opinion. They have OZZIE!! I hope Ozzie shows them all what he's made of and goes all the way to the Cup!!!

So as much as it kills me to say it,

GO BLUES!!!!!

SS

P.S. Thanks for the nice words about the Wings, Aqua. (But I just CAN'T root for the Av's......hehe :p I'm sure you understand ;) )

Steph 04-21-2003 08:00 PM

The Leafs are actually having an OK game right now. If they don't win tonight, they're done. Philly has really outplayed them this series.

gekkogecko 04-22-2003 12:04 PM

Unfortunately, the Caps have choked again in the first round. I guess they'd rather play golf than hockey.

Steph 04-22-2003 12:16 PM

Well, the Leafs pulled out all the stops last night and deserved to win it. We'll see how they play on Philly's turf tonight.
