A few years ago I built a treehouse for a client. The site was right on the edge of a marsh so the mozzies and black flied got pretty bad. A sample pack from Burt's Bees came to me. In the bag was a container of bug repellant. Nothing to loose, because I had my Deet ready if it didn't work. Well, it worked pretty fair. It would sweat off quickly but it was very clear when I needed to lather up again. Check the contents, but I'm quite sure there's no Deet.

Dang treeview......that's a mighty nice little house...wish we had a good tree for one of those.
BTW...you wer'nt in the Monster Tree House epsiode were ya? |
Thanks SoDak :)
That was a nicer treehouse than I could afford to build for myself. It was a fun project. No, not on Monster Treehouse. I missed that episode. You don't need a tree to have a treehouse. I've seen yards with nice trees that a treehouse could be built around. Use posts like I did on the this one. A gal I used to date had a rustic treehouse out in the woods. Basically a platform with a canvas "tent" on top. there were aluminum combination storm windows on the sides. The glass could be slid up to vent. The screens kept the biting creatures out. It was so wonderful to be there during a little wind. the tree would sway. Making love there was really fun too. Someday I'll have a treehouse of mine own where I can bring Pixies for some fun. |
Okay, got a couple of suggestions for ya.
I recently bought one of those off candles that are supposed to be like super good. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but I'll give you an update as soon as I do. Also, and this is just a wild guess but no one else has suggested it so here it is. The way my grandmother keeps alot of the unwanted flying pests away from her flowers is that she mixes up a solution of horticultural oil and insecticidal soap and applies it to most if not all the flowers. Basically gardening is her life so she's out there damn near every day. But it would seem to make sense that if you used one or the other or a combo of the two and then applied it to your skin that would help as well. Both the horticultural oil and the insecticidal soap are available in non toxic solutions that can be applied to edibles (tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.) up to the day of harvest. Like I said, that's just a wild guess. I've never heard of anyone really trying to use that as a mosquito repellant so it's basically all theory. But maybe it's worth a try if you can't think of anything else |
I dunno Chey...but Mr. Lixy ALWAYS tells me that he "has a lotion for that"! He proclaims it's magical and has versatile properties. He says "it" is a floor cleaner AND a dessert topping! It can cure bruises and pimples and sunburn...and it can shine your silver and take the mold off of old bread!
Shall I send you some? Or, ya think Cobalt can conjure up something similar? I can tell you that the dispenser is very eye appealing...and so it can be displayed in any room in the house! Couple two, three squeezes and...*VOILA*...the miracle lotion! *Oh GAWD! Running outta the thread with all my squeeta bites intact!* |

ROFLMAO :p Now... he tells me he has some "special" cure all stuff that HAS to be ingested!!!! What is this lotion you speak of??? Could it be related to Cobalt's cure all of "you just need more protein?" lol lol :D ;) |
Well... so far the best thing I have found to work is hold your breath and run like mad from the house to the car and jump in really fast! Then... you take the handy dandy newspaper left in the car for such situations and swat the 8-10 skeeters that jumped in with you.. :D
You start the car...get out the binoculars and look at your flowers & plants whilst in the vehicle! :D :D |
OMG!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!! ^^^^^^^^^
Maybe you should just build a Greenhouse and attach it to the main house via walkway. |

Sadly and stinkily, I have found this works quite well for me too. Sadly BECAUSE it makes me stinky. LOL Good luck! |
