Well, here's mine. I know it's fairly plain, but they seem to like it that way. We had more stuff in it, but the fish kept moving it out of the way. Little interior decorators I guess.

An oscar....man that will turn into a huge interior decorator hun....i can tell ya now they do love to move all their tank things around...just watch they cant pick it up as they can bang it against the tank...result water everywhere

They are the dogs of the fish world *L*...love em

Curious...how big is the oscar?

lazaruslong 12-16-2003 07:15 PM

Well, we got 3 of em. Two in the tank I showed ya, one in a second. (He's a bully)

They range from about 6 inchs to 9 inches.

First one we named Floyd (cause he's pink)
We decided we needed a friend for Floyd so we got a second. Named him Friend.
Wife wanted 3 for cosmetic reasons. Got a third and wanted a "F" name. Say hello to Flipper.

(Got 2 playcos. First one was so big he looked like a monster. Hence Frank. Friend is the bully with his own tank. When we put the 2nd playco with him, he was named Foe.)

I am also a 3 tank keeper.

10 Gal, with a bristlenose plec and baby guppies
20Gal, white cloud mountain minnows, 1 guppy and some ottos
20Gal, 1 very hungry juvenille oscar. Marbled. (3 inch)

If I had a 4 foot tank, hmmmm

Probably some gouramis and a pair of angelfish, some angelfish proof tetras and cory cat fish.

Aquascaping, make own decorations from rocks and aquarium silicone and have lots of real plants.

Right now my little guys each have betas...same exact set ups one has a nasty bowl all the time and the other stays clean...any ideas?

Sharni 10-23-2004 06:00 PM

Ones a pig and eats all its food....the other isnt and its fouling the bowl?

Lilith 10-23-2004 06:01 PM

maybe but we aren't really finding food sediment instead it's like the water turns gel like. I think it's Fish spoo :p

Sharni 10-23-2004 06:06 PM

*LMAO*

is it freshly cleaned each time?....Do you have them in the same spot? *eg* near a window?....Do you use rainwater or Tap water?...Do you have live plants or plastic?...What decorations are in the bowls?

Lilith 10-23-2004 06:13 PM

they are both glass bowl..plain...have glass marbles in each...that is it. They are both in rooms on the same side of the house in fairlycomparable locations. I always wash the bowls and the marbles for both and use tap water that has sat out in a pitcher declorinating.

Sharni 10-23-2004 06:21 PM

Hmmmmm...intersting

Have ya tried swapping the fish into the other fishes bowl....if the same fish stuffs up the bowl thats usually clean then he just may produce more crap and body slime than the other....If the fish that is normally in the clean bowl finds himself floating in fish spoo *LOL*...then its something in that bowl

Dont be tempted to clean the bowls completely too often....just take half the water out and replace it.....everytime you completely empty it you stress the fish and you'll end up with a microbe explosion

Besides the Betta is an airbreather....so he is able to survive in a bit dirtier water than other non labyrinth fish

PantyFanatic 10-23-2004 06:28 PM

Clean them both at the same time and switch locations. That can eliminate one possibility.

If consistent-
Clean them both at the same time and switch only the fish. This should determine if it's nature or nurture. ;)

PantyFanatic 10-23-2004 06:30 PM

DAMN IT! Quit typing so fast Sharni.

Lilith 10-23-2004 06:30 PM
