GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!

mechdad 04-30-2002 08:55 PM

long suffering flyers fan here. as a former mite coach,i don't remember going out on the ice to win battles for lose pucks or for that matter shooting the puck to score a goal. ya got to have a system but the player has to have a clue .THIS BUNCH DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE! just my thoughts lol

mulder69 04-30-2002 09:40 PM

BLUE BABY, the red wings are gonna BLEED BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

BLUES 4 Ever

darkmanx 04-30-2002 10:29 PM

damn islanders, they almost had it.....deff not been a good hockey week for me, lets see in the East we have Montreal(a team i hate), Carolina(a team i hate), Toronto(a team i hate), and Ottowa(the team im going for), they only good that can come out of the remaining eight for me is if Ottowa makes the cup, and the Avs go down some how, and then Ill deff be chearing for Ottowa......so basically all i have to say is GOOOOOOOOO OTTOWA

Steph 04-30-2002 10:32 PM

Darkmanx, I'm soooooo sorry but I'm a Canadiens fan since I was a toddler.

I could only watch the last 10 minutes of tonight's game but it was awesome! The Leafs rock, too!!!! Empty-net goallllllllll!

About the anthem debacle, what really got us was that Americans were booing our anthem as we were burying four soldiers killed in American friendly fire. It was seen by many as inappropriate but apparently, a lot of the American fans didn't know the situation.

I sincerely doubt that......

We've put them away every other time we've played them in the playoffs. And I don't see any reason why this time should be any different......

GGOOOOOOOO WIIIIINNNNNGGGSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

mulder69 05-01-2002 09:33 AM

First of all, just to correct Darkmanx.... It's Ottawa not Ottowa

Secondly, Red wings fan will remember the Blues beat them the last two games of the season, Johnson has been way better than Hasek, The wings are old, History is in the past.... The future is now and it's BLUE

darkmanx 05-01-2002 11:23 AM

i have to agree with mulder....i think the Blues will take the series....the wings are old, and had enough trouble with Vancouver so it might be a LONG series vs St. Louise

ps...thanx for the correction mulder

Regardless of the situation.... booing another country's anthem is just plain fucked up! I mean, if there's a beef with a particular player and he gets booed, that can be chalked up to bitter rivalry or whatever... but the anthem?! It's just plain wrong....

PS... GO AVS!!!!!

Irish 05-01-2002 12:02 PM

I agree with Aqua!I have played many sports and seen individuals
do many wrong and oftentimes uncaught things. They may be wrong but you don't boo another team or countrys theme song!

Hey, we lost the first two, and then took 4 straight! How much trouble is that??
I agree it will be a tough, hard fought series, as it usually is between these two teams. But if history repeats itself, the Wings should win the series. We played the Blues in '96, '97, and '98 and won each time. They're a very good team and it will be a very good series. I can see it going the full 7 games.

And Mulder, any hockey fan knows that what happens in the regular season, doen't always indicate what will happen in the playoffs.....So they beat us the last two games of the season...that doesn't prove anything.

Sugarsprinkles 05-01-2002 02:01 PM

I also agree with Aquaman about the National Anthems...(but not about the AVS....:D)

I thought it was just disgusting and extremely rude!
Just because you may dislike at certain team or player, you don't show such blatent disrespect for their country!

mulder69 05-01-2002 10:52 PM

Not that i'm defending the anthem debate but its kinda the medias fault and our own. Everytime there is a Canada vs. USA hockey game, its all about national bragging rights. So there are some idiots who will go too far and boo the anthem, and to correct the misconception, amercicans also do that to our canadian national anthem (ie Detroit Pistons vs Toronto Raptors)

Back to hockey, i know the wings are though and i expect a big series but Blues are due to greatness, wings won it in 97, 98. Its time the Blues won the cup.... Interesting fact... the Blues have not missed the playoffs since 1980, longest streak for any sports team. GO BLUES

Well, Mulder, if the Wings weren't in the playoffs I might be rooting for the Blues. They've been trying for a long time and haven't won the cup yet.... But since I'm in Detroit, well.....what can I say? GO WINGS!!!!!!

Gee, too bad about them AVS! He he he he....:D :D :D

darkmanx 05-02-2002 02:10 PM

finally something goes my way, woohoo the Avs lost, now i just hope Ottawa can pull off the same thing against the Leafs, and hey no disrespect to sprinkle, but GOOOOOOO BLUES :D

No disrespect taken, darkmanx. There's nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry...
Now, if San Jose will just dispense with the Avs!...I'd be a mighty happy lady!!:D :D

Sugarsprinkles 05-03-2002 12:15 PM

Wondering where our Blues and Av's fans are????

BTW, what was with Tkachuk taking that run a Hasek at the end of the game?? Not really a smart thing to do.
Should make the next game rather interesting.....;) :D

mulder69 05-03-2002 01:15 PM

I am deeply ashamed of the Blues loosing last night, Tkachuk was a good physical presence, they want to throw Hasek off his game by intimidating him (it worked in 98 - Caps vs Buffalo) None the less i am confident the Blues will rebound Saturday.... By the way how about those Senators, i can't wait to move to Ottawa so i can go see those guys, i wish i was there now!!!!

Aqua 05-03-2002 01:54 PM

Hey, the AVS are down one game, big deal. If they somehow end up down three, I might worry a little. Right now, though, I'm not worried at all.

Sugarsprinkles 05-05-2002 01:26 AM

Wow, Colorado sure came back strong today!! Played like the Colorado teams I'm used to seeing. Have to give them respect for a great game today.
And a big Congratulations to Toronto too!!

What a game with Detroit and St.Louis today!!!
Detroit 3 St. Louis 2!!
And my lucky husband and son got to go to the game!! Brother in law called and said he had 2 tickets that he couldn't use... But would you believe he passed up the game to go FISHING???? I love to fish too, but who in their right mind passes up a playoff game to go fishing??? Oh well, his "loss", our gain!!

Wonder how it's going to go in St.Louis next week? I expect they'll take at least one of the games....but I still believe Detroit will take the series..:p

Sarriah 05-06-2002 11:52 AM

GO AVS :D lol that was one hell of a game there oh man :) cant wait for the game tonight WOOHOO :D

Sugarsprinkles 05-08-2002 01:05 AM

Just a quick post to congratulate St.Louis......they gave the Red Wings a real sound spanking tonight. I'm not happy, but have to give credit where it's due.
I'm sure we can rebound Thursday!!:D

Sugarsprinkles 05-10-2002 01:23 PM

Just wondering if I'm the only hockey fan around?

Sorry about Pronger's injury last night! I'm not sorry he won't be playing, but I am sorry he has such a painful, and season-ending injury.
With any amount of luck, the Wings will finish the Blues off tomorrow night. Hope it works out that way....some of our players could use a bit of rest before the next round.
If the Wings do win this round we'll play either the Avs or the Sharks for the conference finals. I think we'd have an easier time with San Jose, but for sentimental reasons I hope we get Colorado......OH BOY!! Some "rock 'em - sock 'em" hockey for sure if it's the Av's vs. the Wings!!!! And that series could definitely go either way.

Aqua 05-10-2002 01:28 PM

I'm right with you SS. except of course I want the AVS to go all the way... :o An AVS/Wings showdown would be kickass! And it could go either way like you said... :D
GOOOOO AAAAVVVVVVSSSSS!!!!

Sugarsprinkles 05-10-2002 01:31 PM

Definitely could go either way..but maybe more in the Wings favor this year since Deadmarsh is now with LA.....I can't believe that the Av's let him go....here he has the reputation of "Wings killer". And he certainly does kick our butts. Like in the first round last year...

pje 05-11-2002 02:20 AM

sorry i been very behind here since the wife just had our baby two weeks ago.I am from St.Louis and i definetly bleed blue.Even if for some reason they dont win it,i will be right back bleeding blue next year

That's what a call a real fan!! Good for you pje, support your team, win or lose! I'm the same way with the Red Wings. Don't just love 'em when they win, but when they play like "Dead Things" too!!

Hoping they close out the series this afternoon...:D :D ;)

pje 05-12-2002 12:50 AM

well Sugarsprinkles congrats on your teams win.I wish them luck and hopefully the Blues will be ready to play them again next year.

Sugarsprinkles 05-12-2002 07:30 AM

Thanks, pje! Except for yesterday's game, I think the Blues put up a great fight. Yesterday being the exception because of Pronger's season-ending injury.
I'm sure they'll be more than ready for next season and next year's playoffs too. As long as the Red Wings and the Avalanche maintain their talent level, the Blues will have a difficult time advancing to the Finals. But they're a very good team, and if their ownership ever learns to keep their premier players instead of trading them as soon as they're able to command higher salaries, they will eventually get there. And once they do, they should have a good chance at the Cup.

Sugarsprinkles 05-12-2002 07:38 AM

Proud of Pixie's Hockey Fans!!

Isn't Pixie's an amazing place?? Where else are you going to find fans who support not only opposing teams, but also bitter rivals (Wings & Av's) who can speak their minds without sinking to the "Your team sucks" and "Hooray for my team" mentality??
I'm really enjoying the interaction on this thread. I love hockey, esp. the Red Wings. And I don't go to any sports message boards or chat rooms anymore because there are so many who can't or won't get past that juvenile behavior. There are also too many "gentlemen" on most of those boards and chats who refuse to acknowledge that any woman, much less an "older woman" might have something to contribute to a discussion of hockey.
I'm very proud of all of us who have posted in this thread. Thanks for making this a fun thread and making Pixie's a wonderful place to "hang out." :D :D :D :D :D You fellow Pixie-holics are the BEST!!

Steph 05-12-2002 08:44 AM

Sugarsprinkles, what is up with your bro-in-law?!?! This is a big fishing area but I can't believe anyone would give up playoff tickets!!! It is lucky for you, though!

Graet game for the Sens Friday night! Fingers crossed for the Canadiens tonight after their puzzling loss last game. How they were up 3-0 only to lose 4-3?!?!

You're right, Steph! We couldn't figure out why any "real" hockey fan in his/her right mind would pass up playoff tickets to go fishing!! My husband, our kids, and I all love to fish.....but get real!! These are the PLAYOFFS!!! :( :D
Husband and son went to the game with the free tickets and had a wonderful time, and I got some much appreciated privacy while I watched the game on TV.
*IF*, and that's a very big *IF*, the Red Wings win the Conference Championship, I'd love to see either Toronto or Montreal in the Finals for the East. It would be a great Finals with two of the "Original Six" teams, wouldn't it???:D :D

Steph 05-12-2002 09:14 AM

Love your way of thinking, Sugarsprinkles!

I, too, would love to see some original teams in the finals!

Ottawa was there waaaaay back when, though, too. Does their reincarnation count? LOL

Irish 05-12-2002 09:28 AM

Sugarsprinkles---It's too bad;that like you say;some of the people
;like on sports message boards;have to ruin it for everyone else!
Years ago;my youngest daughter;was a softball pitcher. One of the opposing teams coach/umpire was also the mother; of one of
the girls on that team!I used to have to stand behind the fence ;behind;Home Plate because;when she was umpiring;and my daughter was pitching;she called everything;in favor;of her kids team!Kids weren't taught good sportsmanship;they were taught that winning;at all costs;was what mattered. All thats been
on the news here;lately;is the brawl;among parents;at a youth
hockey game!Started by mothers and continued by fathers!I used
to pitch hardball and know how a kid feels;when their strike is called a ball!It can steer their whole life! They're are even kids;in
Texas;where youth football;is deemed so important;as to flunk; a
kid;so that he can play another year!(He's bigger;because he's
older) Irish
P.S.Climbs;creakily;down from soapbox!

Aqua 05-13-2002 11:34 AM

Hey SS, congrats to the Wings!! Now the AVS just need to win the next two... :D

Sugarsprinkles 05-13-2002 12:27 PM

Thanks Aquaman!!:D
That would certainly make for an exciting Conference Finals, wouldn't it?? The fans here in the Detroit area are really split on whether it would be better for the Wings to play the Av's or the Sharks. I'm undecided too.
I do know the League and the the TV networks would be absolutely thrilled with a Detroit/Colorado match !!!:D :p :D

Steph 05-13-2002 04:04 PM

Fingernails might get chewed this week!

OMG! Tonight it's do or die for Montreal and tomorrow night will be either Toronto or Ottawa!!!! Please let a Canadian team make it to the finals!!

But I'll be cheering Yzerman like a certain SS, I know! :p
