good point - so why do people tattoo & pierce their bodies, seeing as how they carry risks as well?

That is what i would like to know there is no way I would get a tattoo or pierce my body. I dont find it at all artistic or pleasing and the risks .... well I have been involved in the medical game for 20 years and I have seen some of the results.

Perhaps it a matter of degree...tatoos and piercing are in no way comparable to cutting off one's foreskin IMHO.

Easy guys... I just wanted to take a centrist position here... move away from the absolutism, no one's right & no one's wrong... I was circ'ed @ birth, as were my 2 sons, I don't feel I was robbed of anything... Irish seems to be the only one who knows what's on both sides of the coin, & he says it's not a big deal, I'll take his word for it! My comparison to tatts & piercing was to point out that there are risks in everything you do (& risks in what you don't do)... show me one example of a boy who was permanently damaged by being cut at birth, I might agree that it's a bad thing; As I also pointed out, it's practiced by 2 of the world's largest religions, if there was a real health risk here Jews & Muslims would have gone the way of the Shakers by now... just the view from here...

Scotz & grumbleguts - people tattoo and pierce they're bodies as it's a a way of making themselves look more appealing either to themselves or to others. It is practiced in nations all round the world, some having more extreme practices than others. In most western countries it's a choice. Usually circumcision is not a choice by the person it's being done to. If it's not broken, why fix it?

But hey, everyone is allowed their opinion right?...and debate is good for everyone involved.
