still sending out good thoughts to everyone. (((hugs)))

PantyFanatic 04-29-2009 04:09 PM

Thank you all very much. :)

As I just told another special Pixie, for not knowing a little over a week ago if I'd be talking to a doctor or undertaker, he is doing fantastic. They are even talkimg about releasing him this week. :nana:

dicksbro 04-29-2009 04:53 PM

Talked to my surgeon today. Plans are for surgery to happen on the 14th. At this point, the surgeon believes the surgery can be done laparoscopically which would speed recovery. Obviously, if the surgery requires, the opening can be enlarged and the surgery performed in the traditional manner. Looks like surgery will remove the cancerous colon section and about twelve surrounding lymph nodes. The nodes filter the blood and while showing no sign of cancer, need to be checked to help assure that the cancer has not spread. In any case, I specifically asked if our planned July getaway to Holland, MI should be canceled. Answer was certainly not yet. If the surgery is successful and no spread to the disease has been found, I should be more than healed in time for the vacation. :) Likely will be a four or five week recovery period although I should be back on my feet sooner than that. Again, if nothing unexpected is found, there may be (Lord willing) no need for chemo.

I thought the meeting with the surgeon was very good and I've great reason to feel optimistic. Actually, I already felt pretty confident and the surgeon did nothing to discourage me.

Lilith 04-29-2009 05:51 PM

DB ((hugs)) I have all faith that you will be happy and healed in no time.

PantyFanatic 04-29-2009 06:16 PM

Sounds like good news all around! :line:

rabbit 04-29-2009 08:44 PM

DB, get well soon!!!

:sun:

dicksbro 04-29-2009 08:46 PM

Thanks Lilith and PF ... appreciate your thoughts. I tell you the truth, the love and support I've received from so many great people is very humbling and truly inspirational. For my Pixie family ... thank you all and God bless!

Fangtasia 05-03-2009 07:15 PM

How is everyone doing?? I have been trying to keep up, but i feel bad for not posting my good wishes and such.

Anyway, please know i am thinking of you all often. *hugz*

PantyFanatic 05-03-2009 09:05 PM

I'm thrilled to say he came home Friday and doing fantastic (considering :rolleyes2 ) on the healing trail. He will be laid up for at least 4-6 months with the hips they tell him. The important internal injuries have had all that can be done, done, and the monitoring and therapy has been above acceptable. They want him to return to THEIR facility in Columbus for a final check-up in three weeks but his orthopedic therapy will be local.

Erok came home on Saturday and there was no doubt he was pleased to be get there. It is the only place where he is not in a kennel of some type or working with a handler, so 'home' is where he can be a dog and you can tell he is happy to be there. :)

This is a happy family that still is breathing a little deep.

Fangtasia 05-03-2009 09:50 PM

*hugz PF* pleased to hear its going in the right direction!

wyndhy 05-04-2009 03:37 PM

sounds like good news for you both.
still sending those good vibes anyway.:) (((hugs PF and family))) (((hugs DB and family)))

dicksbro 05-07-2009 04:09 AM

PF, I'm so glad your son is home! It's a prayer answered. And, I'm happy for Erok, too! I'll bet they're both happy to be home again!

We'll keep the prayers going, though! Sounds like you son still has work to do and he probably can use a few prayers along the way!

Nuelaan 05-07-2009 12:58 PM

I got here late, but I still have hopes for the best for all involved. I am glad to hear about your son PF, I do want to ask if there was any news of the other driver and her daughter. Hope they are well ok.

PantyFanatic 05-08-2009 01:05 AM

We are all happy that the occupants of the other vehicle was treated and released the same day. :wish:

...... But like anything the media covers, a few facts get missed or distorted. It was not a woman and her one year old daughter. It was a man, ... with a two year old boy. He was not making a turn with the car. Then dogs name is not Nick, it's Erok, and so on. The bottom line is no one else was seriously hurt and the only death was the cruiser.

What I said about Erok being happy to be back to his first real home was not a miss-statement. He has always done his job well of not being far from his master but now he tries to be literally next to him all the time. When ANYONE visits, he wants to be 'between' them and No.1 son, even the immediate family. Not in a threatening way, but nobody else is going to sit next to him. He use to be content to just lay in the same room but now he will be next to him. He definitely knows something happen and WILL stay close to him. LOL

gekkogecko 05-08-2009 01:06 PM

Dogs are clingy like that.

But I'm glad things are otherwise working out well.

Dogs see their families as surrogate packs and pecking order is very important. That is one reason dogs attack babies. It's something I rarely see acknowledged.

The car was brought up to Cleveland this last week so No.1 son was loaded up to have a look yesterday. I could tell it registered more than I had anticipated. After thinking about it, what did he have to reference anything to. It was a split second flash.... he wakes up hurting a LOT and hadn't even seen the news photos. A father knows that look of stun when the sight of the cruiser struck him and that pause. :yikes: He "wouldn't bet anybody made it out of that".

I took some pics and looking at the straight-ahead and parallel wheel alignment, the distortion and displacement of the part in between is obvious.

The drivers seat is squeezed down to the width of two pleats.

There seems to be an alignment problem, but with the body and frame rather than the wheels.

Today I had a chance to take some pics of a cruiser before 'modification' for comparison.

Good new from DB

I spoke with a very perky DB today who is happy to report he is up and about after the operation. They have monitored him during recovery and state they believe they were seccessful in getting it all and expect a full recovery. He could be home as early as tomorrow.

YAAAA DB!

Oldfart 05-18-2009 04:15 AM

Yaaaaayyyyyyyy DB.

Lilith 05-18-2009 04:27 AM

jseal 05-18-2009 04:57 AM

So, does that mean he's off his rocker?

Great news PF, and way to go DB.
Has anyone heard the latest on Teddy Bear???

About a week ago Teddy confessed that she just could not stay away from her friends in the hospital. She was back in with infections in the other leg, but she only wanted to check up that they were doing things right and was out in a couple days. I keep trying to convince her that she can just stay at home and we'll call from Pixies to see if they are on their toes or that I would even go and 'inspect' the nurses myself, just for her.

More Than Enough

I would like to end this thread while everyone is on an up note for a quick minute. DB is back with us and the modification is working fine, TeddyBear's upgrade is getting the voltage regular fine tuned and No.1 son is smiling at being on the mend.

I know after seeing the car, a dawning and pause has permanently adjusted his prospective of many things. The way 'experience' registers and changes the value of already known 'facts' is not logical but a very human thing. I have been proud of the job he does and taking some comfort after he added the dog. Seeing a clean cop really doing a hard job, by the book, does make a parent proud, but knowing there is an element of danger causes reserve. In the back of my mind I felt the odds had improved with having this special tool of protection. Then the fact of an auto accident, which all of us are exposed to, could come so close to killing him caused me pause. This happened while on duty but truly was not related to the job he does, away from the additional hours on the road.

After getting WAY to close to the edge exactly 4 weeks ago yesterday, it is hard to believe that much time has passed and that everyone on this thread is in such a better state. These are brutal reminders of how fragile and susceptible we are but also how resilient we can be with the understanding and application of a little science.

He has read a printout of this thread and wants to thank everybody for the good thoughts and prayers.

rabbit 05-20-2009 08:21 PM

Wonderful news all the way around!

:D

dicksbro 05-28-2009 05:50 PM

Latest on the home front. Saw my surgeon. 1 of 17 lymph nodes did show cancer and so I'll see my cancer doctor this coming week to determine future treatments. Good news is that caught early, like mine, chemo is very, very effective. Don't know that that is what he'll prescribe, but it's a good bet.

Any how, feeling good and healing pretty fast from the colon surgery.

Lilith 05-28-2009 09:55 PM

I fucking hate cancer but I fucking love you DB.

dicksbro 05-29-2009 06:27 AM

Thanks, Lilith. :x:

I'm very optimistic and feel very good. No worries. I trust my faith, my doctors, my family and the good wishes and prayers of so many people. Life has been very good to me and so I've no complaints. In fact, I suspect by the end of today my wife and I will become "GREAT-grandparents" for the first time. Our granddaughter went into the hosptial yesterday.

Love you, too, Lilith, and all our Pixie family! :grope:

Coaster 07-03-2009 12:53 PM

Be well and appreciate the time we have with each other! :grope:

((((((PF))))))

So glad to hear your son is doing so well!!

Continued prayers and good thoughts for him till he's 100%, or as close as possible, healed!!

PantyFanatic 04-21-2010 10:08 PM

Today is an exceptionally wonderful one because there is NOTHING extraordinary about it. :line: A year ago when my son's life was a question WAS an extraordinary day that we are hoping to never repeat. For him to tell me he feels as good today as he has ever felt, is something that was VERY much in doubt a year ago tonight. To say this last Thanksgiving held a special meaning for this family is an understatement. It has bee a life changing year for him in ways other than what this accident produced as well, so his comments of "… rebuilding my life with clearer goal and better direction.." is more than any of us expected to hear on this not so pleasant anniversary. YAA for us.

dicksbro 04-22-2010 05:45 AM

Now, if we could just live to see peace in the world ... ahhhhh ... sounds good, doesn't it? :)

PantyFanatic 04-22-2010 11:36 AM

Yes DB, but I'm sorry to say I think he will always have a job. :(

dicksbro 04-24-2010 04:44 AM

Yep. Seems like it, anyway. :(
