I know from personal experience that Chattanooga is an easy day trip from Nashville...& it's a beautiful city, if I couldn't stay here any more I would probably make Chattanooga my second home.

LixyChick 05-28-2007 01:10 AM

I'm dying to meet up this August...but I did mention in the other thread about a main blaster quitting. Not too long after that (last week) a "stone humper" (gopher) quit too.

Mr. Lixy is at wits end! He keeps telling me he's gonna die any day now. *sigh* My man has a tough job and nobody to back him!

So anyway...this August seems quite out of the question right now. PAGAN 08 feels better to me!

BTW...doesn't anyone want to see Pennsylvania Dutch country? We have schnitzelbanks and hoagies (OK...that's a Philly thing...but we have em here too) and buggies and lotsa BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ahem...but this is where I live and I'd LOVE to get together here. Oh...and I live within 50 miles of the bell that made it all possible!!!

OK...OK...it has a flaw (LOL!). But it's still a beautiful sight on inspection. Gave me some MASSIVE goose bumps in it's presence! I just kept thinking of those who viewed it before me through history...the exact same bell...as I was standing in front of it It's a sight to behold!!!!

Did you know that the bell on display isn't the original? Did you know they forged a few and they all cracked? Nothing like pissing off William Penn and Thomas Jefferson...eh?

There's more [bell] info that I didn't even know, but I can't divulge it or I'll have to kill ya if you don't come here!

Love you guys...ya know?.

:tear: sniff :tear: Wish you both could make it. Anyway, take a ((((( HUG ))))) and our best wishes that hubby finds good, dependable help.

 We do! We do!

Schnitzelbanks and hoagies? What'll we have for lunch?

How about dippy and hinkel bottboi, served with sas and followed by a big sweet piece of snitz pie. Or, groascht waascht and groescht welshhinkel und broed filsel?

Pennsylvania Dutch, will we have to learn how to speak it? Things like:

For a fellow he's awful BLAID (bashful) when he gets alone with the girls ...
You should BLEIB (stay) a-while yet; its not late YET.
The BLUTZER (thank you "ma'am" on the road) nearly threw me out of the buggy.
That old woman next door talks all the time like a BOBBAGOY (parrot).
Give me the county-seat BOBBEER (newspaper) -it is just the right size for to cover good the pantry shelf.

(We love you guys, too, Lixy! :grope: )

Pita 05-28-2007 07:41 AM

^^^^^ I have enough trouble with regular English thank you. Although I am up for trying new foods!! :D

Seriously, if there is a PAGAN party anywhere in the south next year I will do whatever I can to be there. :thumb:

Have a wonderful time in Peoria!

gekkogecko 05-28-2007 10:00 AM

Ha, the DC area would be better, I might actually get to something were it in this area.

Scarecrow 05-28-2007 01:13 PM

So far it looks like Nashville, Tn the middle of the week of July 20, 2008. So start saving and planning now.

What part of Nashville (downtown,North, South, ect.) would be good place to look for a hotel and eats for visiters?

Lilith 05-28-2007 01:54 PM

I started looking at hotels. We need someone that knows the area...

oh scotzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Oldfart 05-28-2007 04:03 PM

Your mission, Mr Scotzoidman, should you choose to accept. . . .

I had started to look also. So that is why I sent out the SOS :rolleyes2

Mercury_Maniac 05-29-2007 02:50 AM

damn, the places are getting farther away.

ShadowDancer 05-29-2007 07:57 PM

Nashville's still good for us...we've been to a "get together" for another board there before. I was pregnant with son #1 at the time, but we still did the zoo, and some stuff in downtown Nashville--And July of '08 sounds good cuz I WON'T be preggers at the time!

scotzoidman 05-30-2007 09:40 AM

Ok, ok...got here as soon as I could...

Not sure I could be as useful as db was in arranging for discount accommodations, but I'll do what I can. This came up in chat some time back, when Nashville was first being mentioned. At the time, I suggested a halfway decent Red Roof near my place, just off I-65 & not too bad an area, except for it's right across the street from the main CSX switching yard...I don't know if that's a good place to be unless you're used to the sound of lots of trains, as I am (I did put my half-sister up there, & she didn't voice any complaints, & she isn't the type to hold back if she's not happy with things). The big obstacle to finding places here is that Nashville is very much a tourist industry town, any place nice enough to put up my friends is likely to be a tad pricey, & I understand how that can be a real factor. That, along with the fact that I don't do a lot of hotel shopping in my own hometown, means I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to send everybody. I can assure you that there are a lot of places to stay here, maybe too many choices...Nashville has an unusual neighborhood geography, & one can go just a few blocks in any given direction & go from a "good" area to a "bad" one very quickly. I guess it may come down to what the visiting parties may want to do when they get here beyond the "meet all the Pixies" event...if anyone really cares about the Opry and/or country music venues (I certainly don't!) we might put people around the Music Row area or east side near the Opryland hotel, but that could be tricky too...

I'm on the south side of town myself, maybe just south of the city limits in Brentwood might be an idea...but there, like so many other areas in this town, traffic sucks

Let me keep working on it...

Scarecrow 05-30-2007 12:55 PM

Thanks for the input Scotz, things to look for in a location would be easy to get to(from interstates and airport), parking for those driving and a good part of town. Since the hotels will not even except reservetion more than 12 months in advance there is no real big rush to nail down the exact hotel yet. Again thanks for any help with this.

Lilith 05-30-2007 02:40 PM

I was looking at The Country Inn & Suites by Carlson by the airport. But I don't think they have a pool. They quote $89 for their least expensive room.

Barring any disasters or last minute crap uprisings, I'm totally down with this. Or I should say that it's doable and I just have to make sure that I'm equally as doable! I'll give a definite when next year swings around but for now, pencil me in between that and the "maybe" option!

wyndhy 05-31-2007 08:13 AM

i'd love to meet you all, but it's highly unlikely i'd ever get to.

That was my thinking exactly, SC...I just wanted everyone to understand how tricky finding the right combo of those needs could be in this town...then again, it may be that I've lived here so long I know this place *too* well, & I may be seeing warts where no one else would notice.

Hotel pools may be a vanishing thing, from what I can tell...Lots of places by the airport, & maybe the one of the better parts of town because of it...at this time, traffic is bad there because of a major construction project of Briley Pkwy., which doesn't seem to be coming to an end anytime soon...who knows, maybe next year it will be better...

Scarecrow 06-22-2007 03:40 PM

Just bring the thread to the top again for anyone how has not seen it it.

dicksbro 06-22-2007 03:56 PM

Good idea, Scarecrow! We're putting our pennies away in anticipation of next year and a visit to Nashville. Hope to see a lot of Pixies there and ... who knows ... maybe Wyndhy will find a way to join us by then. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

sodaklostsoul 06-22-2007 04:02 PM

Does saving pennies work or do I need to put quarters away. :D

Pennies if supper at McDonald's works for you ... quarters for anything more. :)

BTW ... what ever happened to a "A hamburger, Coke and fries ... AND ... change from your dollar!"

sodaklostsoul 06-22-2007 04:35 PM

Does it depend on what country your dollar is being used in. :D

Scarecrow 06-23-2007 09:49 AM

This year I celebrated the 27th anniversary of my 29th B-day

I'm well over that age and don't recall that one!

PantyFanatic 06-23-2007 05:16 PM

This is bad ScareCrow. :( I now have more anniversaries than birthdays. :banghead:

Are we the only ones that remember what Mickey D said, DicksBro?

...and are we the only ones that remember a time before there WAS a Mickey D to remember? :tear:

Oldfart 06-23-2007 09:28 PM

Yes.

Scarecrow 06-23-2007 10:27 PM

PF do you remeber when Mickey D's sign read 'Over 100,000 sold'?

sodaklostsoul 06-23-2007 10:28 PM

I do.

PantyFanatic 06-23-2007 11:25 PM

It seems I should remember "Over 100 Sold" :(

It sounds like Mr. Lixy needs the vacation more than ANY of us. Tell him to take a break and bring his wife to Peoria before he burns out and blows something important off. ;)

dicksbro 07-06-2007 02:09 AM

Wonderful idea, PF.

And, Lilith, we stayed at a Country Inn & Suites once and it was very nice. Don't know about the one in Nashville, but in Decatur, IL (we were there for a wedding), we were real impressed.

Hey, Scarecrow, I remember Mickey D when they were still less than 1 million and the building really did have twin golden arches :boink: .

.

Haven't been able to check out Country Inn & Suites up close & personal yet, but I've been thinking that any place near the airport should be pretty decent, & may well be the best option, considering that I figure at least one aussie might be flying in for PAGAN '08...the only potential downside is I believe CI&S may be right in the heart of a major constuction project ongoing with Briley Pkwy, but maybe they'll be clearing that up by this time next year, keep your fingers crossed...

Fangtasia 07-30-2007 08:35 PM

Dammit i need to win lotto!! Or we need a PAGAN in OZ *L*

scotzoidman 07-31-2007 10:44 AM

Maybe if I win the lotto, we can arrange that OZ PAGAN ;)

dicksbro 07-31-2007 05:44 PM

OZ Pagan would be neat :) ... if only the lottery cooperates. :(

Do you still have to by a lottery ticket?

Oldfart 07-31-2007 06:08 PM

Pixies Adult Gathering At Noosa?

That has a ring to it, OrliFanatic, but it's likely to be the Oldfarts, yourself and Bilbo and the Caspers.

Catering will be a big box of Tucky Duck and a Coolibah Cask.
