It makes me older:p
Truthfully I've never been one to dread birthdays and I do love October. The smell of unevironmentally-friendly burning leaves is one of my most favoritists scents. The air is crisp but not cold and we still get the occasional summery day. It's the best. |
Our little town features a pumpkin canning plant (about 50% of the US canned pumpkins are from here) and watching dozens upon dozens of trucks from all over the mid-west rolling in to off-load their harvest is fun to see. They pull onto a rack, get fastened down, and the whole rig ... tractor and trailer ... get tilted up to let the pumpkins slide off the truck. Amazing. The plant runs night and day through most of September and October or beyond.

I'd have to count the so-far successful (but also continuing) rescue of the trapped Chilean miners as awesome.

I also love the topics I teach in October. I love teaching kids about nocturnal animals and adaptations. I love it when they start questioning what they have been told or previously held beliefs.

I like donning a costume on the last day of the month. :D

A big-A belt and fishskin levis?

It would have been STO's 38th birthday Saturday the 23rd. I miss him. I have lost a couple of people I never even got to hold in my arms whose birthdays were in October and so October is wistful for me. This thread was part of my effort to remind myself of all the reasons to still love it.
