First of all---GOOD LUCK!!!

Wow , I am in the same boat as you.My hearing was in February but got cancelled due to that nasty snowstorm that dumped 18" in the Northeast.
2 years and counting here too! My hearing was rescheduled for April 5th.Any pointers (unshaven, old holy jeans, crusty ramen noodles on your shirt, etc) would be appreciated!

Good Luck, but don't get your hopes up. My wife has been fighting it for 3 yrs and just got turned down by the Judge. Now she has to appeal to a three judge panel. From what I've heard she will get turned down again because they do not want to pay the back pay. If she gets turned down she will have to start the whole proccess over and that will wipe out the back pay so she should get SSDI then. Again good luck Scotz

Maybe the full body cast wasn't such a great idea after all....

JK...my atty told me before the hearing that she had a client that actually tried that...I would find the story amusing later, but I wasn't in a laughing mood at that moment...

All in all, it was not too traumatic...as a preface let me say my lawyer is a somewhat older lady (who it turns out went to the same HS as me, some years earlier), she told me that the judge we got was a fair man, & she thought I would be a credible witness for myself...I tried to be as honest as I could, without sounding whiney, & I tried to paint a picture of myself as an older man with some health problems, who would like to work, but just not capable of giving any employer a full 8-hour day without a lot of pain. (I did have one moment where I didn't think I should tell the whole truth, so help me God, but I think I'll keep that to myself for now) After the hearing, my atty said she thought the vocational assessment went better that she had expected, & that the judge would make his decision in his own good time...I can expect a big envelope in the mail in maybe a couple of months...

As OF said, I'm just looking for a little something back of what I already paid in (of course, the govt never sees it that way), & I don't really expect the full disability check...but I desparately need a little help here...

I do appreciate all the good wishes, I knew I could count on you guys...I'll keep y'all posted as new developements arise...

That is how it was for me too. I won and so will you!

Update

Got the mail yesterday pm, there it was, a big fat envelope from SSA...tried to maintain calm till I got into the house, & with trembling hands (literally), gingerly opened it, right there underneath my name...

NOTICE OF DECISION - FULLY FAVORABLE

followed by about 10-12 pages of mumbo jumbo that I'm sure some lawyer can decipher, but the gist is this: the judge has said that he's convinced that I'm eligible for disability...no word on when I'll start collecting, that's a matter for another office (& I've no doubt that there'll be a long softshoe paper shuffle dance to do before the benefits arrive), & of course my mouthpiece is gonna get her cut somehow...but anyway...I should actually get a little help here (soon I hope), as I told mrs zoid, "It's not a trip down Easy Street..." & of course, she finishes my sentences for me, as all married couples do, & she says, "...but it'll smooth out the rough road we've been on"
