you dug them up!!!!!!!!!!:( They were just fixin to make bloomstalks gilly!!!!! They bloom from April to usually about june in colder climates. Some even rebloom in the fall before frost. They are supposed to be "on top" of the ground or they will rot hun. just bury the roots but leave the top of the rhizome exposed. and do NOT use a high nitrogen fertilizer. 5-10-5 is good enough and mix it in to the soil. I'm sorry i didn't see this sooner.:( yes the middle one is the "mother" she is old and tired and raised her "kids".:) she needs to be thrown away and separate all the kids and replant them. you only need to do this every 3 years. Yeah I'm proud to say I'm a member of the American iris society. I grow and show registered irises. I also do a little hybridizing.;) Please put them in a sunny location and you will have much better bloom. If you plant them in a circle with the rhizomes facing each other you will have a much prettier clump when they bloom. Good luck to ya!
