south, I'd guess it is because they attempt to get and retain the largest possible audience. They therefore try to avoid alienating their audience by airing pieces that are out of their mainstream. Nothing edgy, nothing that may make someone switch channels. Hell, that's why classical radio has, for all intents and purposes, with very few exceptions been relegated to a niche market status. The market for deodorants, douches, and prophylactics isn't there, so the only advertisers left are the arts organizations themselves, financial advisors and large company PR efforts. You can make a living there, but the big bucks, the way to the top lies through packaging and presenting the popular pap in a fashion which will drive the numbers up. It is the same with commercial television. |
WZZO FM...they say if you don't get it where you live...MOVE!
WYSP and WMMR if I happen to be in a spot where I can't get ZZO. They are all rock/heavymetal/new stuff stations! Sometimes I go for the softer stuff...but usually, it's one of those three! |
1.KPFK FM ...Local Pacifica station. 2.KCRW FM ....National Public Radio from Santa Monica College. For music programs and News.3.KUSC FM from USC Campus for Classical Music.4.KCLU FM for NPR,News and Jazz.also to hear Garrison Kielor and Ira Glass. Never really liked Wagner except for Tristan und Isolde.

lakritze,
Interesting. I prefer the Ring Cycle to Wagner's other works. Different strokes, I'd guess. |
I listen to a variety of stations.....mostly Country, sometimes Oldies, and occasionally "Times of Your Life" format....REAL oldies....Peggy Lee, Perry Como, Frank, Big Bands, Andrews Sisters....that sort of thing. Unfortunately I haven't found a Classical station down here in Branson, although we have a grand total of FIVE Christian stations........Geeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzz!!!! Talk about overkill!! :(

Speaking of Wagner's Tristan & Isolde ... it's the best music I've found to do housework to .... very energizing!!!! :)

fzzy,
Wagner must be spinning in his grave! |
Usually light jazz with occasional hard rock thrown in. Do like classical. Worked for public radio for 7 years.
