I love that Nickelback tune!
Here's an introspective James Taylor song: Well the sun is surely sinking down But the moon is slowly rising So this old world must still be spinning ’round And I still love you (chorus) So close your eyes You can close your eyes, it’s all right I don’t know no love songs And I can’t sing the blues anymore But I can sing this song And you can sing this song When I’m gone It won’t be long before another day We gonna have a good time And no one’s gonna take that time away You can stay as long as you like - chorus - |
And a great Joni Mitchell song for those who endure a different sort of love
He comes for conversation I comfort him sometimes Comfort and consultation He knows that's what he'll find I bring him grapes and cheeses He brings me songs to play He sees me when he pleases I see him in cafes And I only say, hello And turn away before his lady knows How much I want to see him She removes him, like a ring To wash her hands She only brings him out to show her friends I want to free him. Secrets and sharing soda That's how our time began Love is a story told to a friend It's second hand But I'll listen to his questions I'll give my answers when they're found He says she keeps him guessing I know she keeps him down She speaks in sorry sentences Miraculous repentances I don't believe her Tomorrow he will come to me And speak his sorrow endlessly and ask me why Why can't I leave her? He comes for conversation I comfort him sometimes Comfort and consultation He knows that's what he'll find. |
Steph~ That James Taylor song is the lullabye I always sang to my babies. Thanks for the warm reminders.

I guess you can always sing it with gritted teeth if they won't sleep. Close your damn eyes :jester:

I haven't heard that James Taylor tune in ages, and I dont' think I've ever heard the Joni Mitchel one. Here's another one I've been listening to alot lately.
I've seen you hangin' round this darkness where I'm bound and this black hole I've dug for me. And silently within with hands touching skin the shock breaks my disease and I can breathe.............. And all of your weight and all you dream falls on me, it falls on me. And your beautiful sky and teh light you bring falls on me, it falls on me. Your faith like the pain draws me in again she washes all my wounds for me. The darkness in my veins I never could explain and I wonder if you ever see will you still believe...... And all of your weight and all you dream falls on me, it falls on me. And your beautiful sky and the light you bring falls on me, it falls on me. Am I that strong to carry on? I might save my life I might save our world Would you save me? Fuel ~ Falls On Me |
Here's a Joni Mitchell one I like....
Just before our love got lost you said "I am as constant as a northern star" And I said, "Constant in the darkness Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar" On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh Canada with your face sketched on it twice Oh you are in my blood like holy wine Oh and you taste so bitter and so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you darling and I would still be on my feet Oh I would still be on my feet Oh I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid I remember that time that you told me, you said "Love is touching souls" Surely you touched mine Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh you are in my blood like holy wine And you taste so bitter and so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said "Go to him, stay with him if you can but be prepared to bleed" Oh but you are in my blood you're my holy wine You're so bitter, bitter and so sweet I could drink a case of you darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet "Case of You" |
Dunno why but this song always provokes some strong emotion ... although not always the same one
Fiona Apple ~ slow like honey You moved like honey in my dream last night Yeah, some old fires were burning You came near to me and you endeared to me But you couldn't quite discern me Does that scare you ? I'll let you run away But your heart will not oblige you You'll remember me like a melody Yeah, I'll haunt the world inside you And my big secret, gonna win you over Slow like honey, heavy with mood I'll let you see me, I'll covet your regard I'll invade your demeanor And you'll yield to me like a scent in the breeze And you'll wonder what it is about me It's my big secret, keeping you coming Slow like honey, heavy with mood Though dreams can be deceiving Like faces are to hearts They serve for sweet relieving When fantasy and reality lie too far apart So I stretch myself across like a bridge And I pull you to the edge And stand there waiting Trying to attain The end to satisfy the story Shall I release you? Must I release you? As I rise to meet my glory But my big secret Gonna hover over your life Gonna keep you reaching When I'm gone like yesterday When I'm high like heaven When I'm strong like music 'Cause I'm slow like honey, and heavy with mood |
Dancingrugger ~ which CD is that from? I'd love to hear that song.

OMG!!!! I've found my theme song!!!
Always and forever is forever young Your shadow on the pavement The dark side of the sun Gotta dream the dream all over And sleep here tight You don’t wanna sing the blues In black and white And it’s hope that spring’s eternal for everyone If it ain’t broken break it or the damage done Trying to love somebody Just wanna love somebody right now There’s just no pleasing me Trying to love somebody Just want to love somebody right now Baby lay your love on me Violet in the rainbow just melt away There’s not enough minutes in the hour Or hours in the day The song played in a circle that never skips a beat The stranger in a country that I have yet to meet And it’s hope that springs eternal for everyone Got a lifetime in a second oh the damage done Trying to love somebody Just wanna love somebody right now Guess there’s just no pleasing me I want to love somebody Just want to love somebody right now Baby lay your love on me It’ll come in your sweet time, lord I just gotta let you in The blind leading the blind, lord Getting underneath your skin I can feel you in the silence Saying let forever be Love, only love, will set you free I wanna love somebody Wanna love somebody right now There’s just no pleasing me I wanna love somebody Just wanna love somebody right now Lady, lay your love on me It’ll come in your sweet time, lord I just gotta let you in The blind leading the blind, lord Getting underneath your skin I can feel you in the silence Saying let forever be Love, only love, will set you free Love Someone ~ Robbie Williams |
Carey
~ Joni Mitchell The wind is in from africa Last night I couldn’t sleep Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here carey But it’s really not my home My fingernails are filthy, I got beach tar on my feet And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy french cologne Oh carey get out your cane And I’ll put on some silver Oh you’re a mean old daddy, but I like you fine Come on down to the mermaid cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine And we’ll laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down Let’s have a round for these freaks and these soldiers A round for these friends of mine Let’s have another round for the bright red devil Who keeps me in this tourist town Come on, carey, get out your cane I’ll put on some silver Oh you’re a mean old daddy, but I like you Maybe I’ll go to amsterdam Or maybe I’ll go to rome And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers ’round my room But let’s not talk about fare-thee-welis now The night is a starry dome. And they’re playin’ that scratchy rock and roll Beneath the matalla moon Come on, carey, get out your cane And I’ll put on some silver You’re a mean old daddy, but I like you The wind is in from africa Last night I couldn’t sleep Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here But, it’s really not my home Maybe it’s been too long a time Since I was scramblin’ down in the street Now they got me used to that clean white linen And that fancy french cologne Oh carey, get out your cane I’ll put on my finest silver We’ll go to the mermaid cafe Have fun tonight I said, oh, you’re a mean old daddy, but you’re out of sight |

This was always one of my favorite songs off this CD. Now that it's been released as a single, the radio version is great cause it has an added guitar track.
i'm so tired of being here suppressed by all of my childish fears and if you have to leave i wish that you would just leave because your presence still lingers here and it won't leave me alone these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me you used to captivate me by your resonating light but now i'm bound by the life you left behind your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams your voice it chased away all the sanity in me these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone and though you're still with me i've been alone all along My Immortal ~ Evanescence |
Was watching Shrek today...there's some really great songs in that movie...never realized it before. Here's one....
Rufus Wainwright---Hallelujah I've heard there was A secret chord That David played, and It pleased the Lord But you don't really care For music, do you? It goes like this: The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king Composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Your faith was strong But you needed proof You saw her bathing On the roof Her beauty and the Moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne And she cut your hair And from your lips She drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe I've been here before I know this room I've walked this floor I used to live alone Before I knew you I've seen your flag On the marble arch Love is not a victory march It's a cold and It's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah There was a time You let me know What's real and going on below But now you never show It to me, do you? I remember when I moved in you Your holy dark Was moving too And every breath we drew Was Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above And all I ever Learned from love Was how to shoot At someone Who outdrew you It's not a cry You can hear at night It's not somebody Who's seen the light It's a cold and It's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah |
