Can we get a Purple Heart or Valiant Deed medal for the poor guy. He’s been with Steph 24/7 for over a week now.

Steph, you make me homesick!! Cannot get back home this summer. Hope you are enjoying yourself!! :)

PF, you've chatted with Tyler - don't you know that I'm the one who deserves a medal?!?! He was asking touristy questions like how many piers/docks were by my parent's house - I have no clue.

David, save your pennies and get down for a visit!

Pardon my geographical ignorance. In the '60s,when I was in the service,I used to pull "Alert" duty in Labrador. At the time,we had
an air base there. Is that anyplace near there? When you could see(thru the snow)it was beautiful.I only went there in the winter
months, they said that it was beautiful in the spring& summer!

I would’ve bet that you’d just reached over with your shillelagh and put one small lump:eek: on the poor guy for each wharf in sight. ;)

Irish - Labrador is part of Newfoundland . . . the province is officially called Newfoundland and Labrador but damn, that's a long name to type! Labrador is apparently warm and beautiful in the summer but it snows a lot in winter!

One lump for each wharf . . . . that's an awesome idea, PF!!!

Steph---The base was Goose Bay Labrador.I don't even know if they still have a base there. We would keep the engines(of the
planes)preheated. It was so cold on the flightline, that we used to
use hydraulic oil ,in the preheat engines to get them to turn over.
If we went out to fuel the preheat engines,it snowed so heavily,
that we had to tie a 30' rope from the plane door to our waist!
I would start the APU(auxiliarly power unit)on the plane& keep
rotating in its exhaust so I wouldn't freeze.Unairmanlike, but it kept me alive! Irish

Goose Bay still has a base, as far as I know. It's a major employer.

I think on Sept. 11, a lot of planes landed there, too.
