HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY
Well, we may not be sailing the ocean blue today ... but we can sure be glad that people did in the past ... and Columbus deserves special attention.
The Vikings may have been first ... but Columbus made the New World known to the most advanced civilizations in the West and his discoveries resulted in a vast migration from Europe to the Americas making our current civilization possible.
Apologies to the American Indians who, much to our shame, we terribly hurt by this influx of Europeans and to any Scandinavians who may feel slighted. No disrespect for you or your heritage intended. But for many of us, Columbus' contribution was very important.
