I was reading an article on Esquire one day about certain things that everyone needs to do before the apocalypse and it made me think of the movie Elizabethtown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75TKB0299b0) . A movie I enjoyed that has a portion of the film having Drew (Orlando Bloom, I know you are all familiar with that actor) finally taking a road trip, one in which Claire (Kirsten Dunst) has orchestrated a map along with music that takes Drew to various locations, places to see, places to eat and things to experience and do along his journey.

I thought, as I often do, how fun it would be for us to share places, events or people we have encountered either in our travels or in our specific states or areas that we feel others would enjoy or enrich their lives. Who knows, we may inspire a journey in someone that frequents Pixies.

So in the spirit of sharing, tell us something we have to see, a place we have to go or someone we need to meet before we leave this planet.

Gopher Bar - St. Paul, Minnesota

If you find yourself passing through St. Paul Minnesota, you *must* stop in at the Gopher Bar for the finest Coney Island hot dogs around. The bar itself can be describe as dive meets joint. It's been around longer than I can remember and has always been a place of good memories. The Coney's are the best you'll ever have and the grilled buns only make them better. Just remember to bring your cash because plastic and checks don't fly at the Gopher. Leave your worries at home and shut the fuck up it's Friday (a popular shirt seen at the Gopher). Be sure to order your Coney with the works and give it a squirt of Sriacha Hot Sauce (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31FZNEK0BAL._SL500_AA280_.jpg) to make it a piece of heaven as it hits your taste buds.

A place that needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated.

If traveling along U.S. Highway 70 between Alamogordo and Las Cruces, New Mexico a stop and stretch at White Sands National Park (http://www.nps.gov/whsa/photosmultimedia/index.htm) is an absolute must. I suggest packing a picnic, make sure you bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, water, camera and a kite. I love this park... every time I go to New Mexico this is a must stop.

Here are some images from White Sands that I've taken there, I hope you enjoy the sampling.
