For not backing up my secondry hard drive !!

Whole puter was working fine when i left for work....Bilbo's puter had a spit and shut down, then mine follwed suit....neither would restart...finally got em going and the interent and network running but hard drive was/is kuput!

Dunno wtf happened but the result is i have a stuffed 40 Gig hard drive that seems to be completely empty (thats when it decides to work that is) and it has changed from NTFS to RAW (whatever the fluck that is!). It makes that oddest noise too...bloody thing

Not sure ANYTHING can be done, but I'd unplug that drive NOW, then talk to a LOaT of people that know more about it than I do. If it changed format on you, there is an outside chance your data (less oily pictures) could still be in tact if ytou can get to them.

I'd say your drive is still good but you can't access the contents...yeah, take it to a service center by all means before doing a last-option reformatting.

And I feel your pain. I have been there and I continue to go there from time to time.

The pics dont phase me too much as i have backup copies of most of them stored online *L*

We tried to reformat , it starts but cannot complete it which makes me think the drive is knackered...that and the horrid noise it makes *L*

Backups and the service center are also good ideas for all that other stuff. :)

The type going to "raw" means your partition table's stuffed. The noise means the rest might be stuffed too :(
ERD commander (http://www.winternals.com/Products/AdministratorsPak/Default.aspx) might help, or, if you take it to a computer repairer, they might be able to get some of the data off. Another possibility, if you're brave, is recreating the partition table. Boot into the Windows Recovery Console (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/229716) and use the diskpart command. This is easier if you only had one big partition on the disk.

I found a puter nerd site *L*....they advised to download a free product to do a recovery...also to freeze it in a sealed bag for 2 hours to enable it to run for a bit

I recovered around 100 pics...and the rest is cactus!

Shit happens......guess what i'll be doing this weekend *LOL*.....i just hope i have enough disks to put my 'needed' stuff off C Drive onto

Bilbo bought me a new hard drive, so will chuck it in on the weekend then surf like a woman possessed to find all me goodies again *LOL*

Oh yeah....the damn modem packed it in too......we replaced it with a router...much better
