A project I have not really wanted to do, but felt we have the need for has been forced to the top by hurricane Frances. Many of our members have been in harms way over the past few years by fires, floods, hurricanes, typhoons, tornados, etc. Many of us share concern during these times for people we have come to know and care about.
During such events, the people involved are VERY preoccupied, I’m sure, and do not have the time to post their personal condition and how they may be effected. After mentioning this to a few members, my thought is to have a standing map library with the location of Pixies available, that could then be posted in a thread, enabling us to watch reports of the proceedings for people that may be involved. It would also provide a current and common place for them to post and let us know how they are fairing.
The initial thought is to let any member that would like to be included, post on this thread or PM me personally, and give me permission and their location to have them listed on a map that could be posted during such an event.
Frances was the necessary push to see if our members feel the same interest or need for such a thing. I HAD hoped to be able to organize this under less pressure, but have rushed a first makeshift attempt to do something with the pending situation in Florida.

If it is thought that such a thing would be of use and value, I will try to prepare such maps and let you know as each is completed. I will also include shipping instructions for all our ladies, so they can send me their panties for safe keeping during any disaster.
(They may get a bit wet  :boink: )

I do with the exception of hearing from Skyler_m and that he wants to be posted on the maps. I am ONLY plotting the members that tell me it is alright with them.

I think it'd be neat to even just do a US and a world map with all the little "pin pricks" as to where members are located.
Maybe that's just cheesy, but heck, I do live in Madison, Wi afterall...America's Dairyland :) Pun intended!

Thanks Boog for the help with your location. I sure it was a sacrifice to do that because it has to be your typing hand. I know because it’s not closed in the standard half fist position .
I think the bus fair to that sleepy town must not be less than $42.80 and well under $86.15.
Actually dreamgurl, I show Coal Grove as only 2.8 miles from the Ironton town line. ;)
Thank all of you who have requested to be plotted on our Pixie Maps. So far I have 14 states in the USA and 2 in Australia. I’m welcoming ALL Pixies to be included, where every you are. (except for one cave in a Canadian province that shall remain nameless :jedi: ) I will post a note when each map is set up with entries (to keep ME from letting it slide to the back burner) and occasionally bump the thread for new members and anyone that may have missed it.
With most notable news events being negative that would cause concern about any of our Pixies, I’m making something we really hope not to see a lot of. :bang: The last version on the hurricane Frances thread is a workable format for me, but I am open to ANY suggestions or corrections you may have.
Knowing this has been a service for many of us has made this a much more doable undertaking. Anytime a member has a thread that involves possibly effecting of a large area, you are welcome to check with me and see what we have completed and available.

BUMP!!
Unfortunately, hurricane Ivan is causing us to post the location maps of Pixies for the members concerned about an event that may effect the well being of other members. This information will be posted to a thread specific to the topic whenever the media makes us aware of an occurrence or pending situation that could possibly effect members we know to be in the area and that have requested or given specific consent to be plotted on our maps.
ONLY if you are comfortable and interest in being included in our attempt to keep others concerned members abreast of situations like the above, will anybody be listed. Please post to this thread or PM me direct, if you would like to be part of this. Currently our library consists of 16 state maps for the USA, 3 states for Australia and 1 province of Canada.
(see first post to this thread)

PF, I have been giving this a great deal of thought, painful as that is. In any crisis, even the best planned contingencies may go awry. I believe that you need a back up plan.
I will also include shipping instructions for all our ladies, so they can send me their panties for safe keeping during any disaster.
(They may get a bit wet  :boink: )
I mean, heaven forbid something catastrophic should occur in your neck of the woods, but think of the potential tragedy if it did. Total loss of our most precious resource. <Shudders uncontrollably>
In order to help prevent that most dire end from occurring, I volunteer to assist you in you noble quest. I have plenty of extra space, and can guarantee the proper temperature and humidity will be kept. :D
Let me know if this sounds even slightly feasible to you

this thread, as it seems once again we have need to be concerned about our family members.

Thought it was time to BUMP this thread. There may be new members that are unaware of what we have tried to do. The beginning of this thread (http://www.pixies-place.com:81/forums/showthread.php?t=21983) gives the details of our project. We also used this thread (http://www.pixies-place.com:81/forums/showthread.php?t=21982&highlight=) to get the effort under way.
We have a lot of active members that have often stated their location, but have not asked to be included. Because we respect every members privacy, I will ONLY plot Pixies that have requested to be added to our maps.
We will use these with any notice of something that could possible effect any of our Pixie family. These are available for any member that is aware of a happening in their area and wants to post a thread by just asking.
To date I have maps for -
Australia
NotherTerritory
QueensLand
Canada
Ontario
USA
California
Florida
Georgia
Illinois
Iowa
Kentucky
Maryland
Michigan
Missouri
North Carolina
New Jersey
New York

As for location; 10 to 20 miles is about as accurate as can be hoped for in the US and in the larger domains of Australia and Canada, the marks can be up to 75 km off. But it will do what we want.

Sorry, I did overstate the death toll from last weeks' storms, it was only 12 souls lost during this go-round, which doesn't in any way diminish the tragedy...many more were injured, including a mother who shielded her young children from flying debris with her own body, suffered a broken back, & will likely be a permanent parapalegic...an extraordinary act of bravery, & an ordinary act of motherhood, IMO...
...I guess the higher number had come from the similar storms that hit west TN only a week earlier...
